He'd be worth your first rounder - especially with this draft.

Some have pretty short memories.

John Georgiades kicked 8 on debut for the Scray, he worth a first rounder?? What are you trying to say here, plenty of players kicked three in a quarter.
The Sun shines on even a dogs ar$e some days...

It's not the number of goals; it's the class, skills and execution.

He's a quality player who will suit a team challenging for a flag.

He is contracted, so you can't ship him anywhere you like. He has to agree.

He's come out and said he'll never play for the blues again, so keeping him is not going to happen, no matter what your supporters say about him playing vfl for a year.

It looks like he has the power in this trade, Richmond could happily walk away if the price is too high, Carlton cannot walk away.

If he nominates tigers, we'll be getting him without trading our first or Lennon.

Put it this way: Cochin is in the middle of his contract then says he wants out to the Hawks, they offer their fourth pick and that's it - what do you do? Let him go for fourth because, well, you "can't walk away?" Doubt that very much.

Now, I have no idea what discussions have taken place between Blues and Tiges over Yarran or what will be traded (imagine one will get down), it's clear Carlton want a first rounder and Tiges won't give that, and no doubt it'll be threshed out in negotiations, but i find it a massive stretch that a club - any club - would simply trade a player mid-contract for whatever they're offered because they've got no choice. If it gets to stage where the player is forced to meet his contractual obligations - even if they sook in the reserves for a year, then so be it. Think you'd find that player would start performing, if they really loved the game.

On one occasion he got a handball over the top. On the other two, he burned off a couple of slow Selwoods and managed to kick open goals.

Which part of that is meant to convince people he should warrant a first-rounder in exchange?

He's a quality player who will suit a team challenging for a flag.
So he's a downhill skier who cracks the sads when it gets too hard? Yeah. Sounds awesome.

And given his contract scenario, we won't take anything less than he's worth.

It's all pretty basic economics.
Good. Keep him. If you can persuade him to stay. Sounds like the horse has bolted.

Again, he's worth whatever another club is willing to give up in exchange. Not whatever price Carlton fans pluck out of thin air. If no club is willing to give up a first-rounder then he's not worth a first-rounder.

at the right price......no doubting his quality when, ahem, right. But there is a fair bit of buyer beware that knocks the price down. Hasn't been right for a long time, and really only had one truly outstanding year in 7.

How many other players have that pace combined with elite kicking skills on both sides of the body?

Given how shallow the draft is, at the right pick, he's worth a first rounder. Either directly through a trade, or from an upgraded pick.

Some players are better suited to playing in good teams. He had a torrid year and gave up half-way though, which probably impacts his trade value but hardly equates to a low-second round pick and a 4th year KPP who can't break into the Richmond lineup.

His 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 were all good. He probably just missed out on the AA squad in two of those seasons.

Ashley Sampi was quick and had great skills. If the application isn't there, it doesn't count for much.

I wouldn't want to give up a first-rounder for Lewis Jetta either.

Josh Hill is quick and has beautiful foot skills. He wasn't worth a first-rounder.

Yet you're still insisting sides should give up a first-rounder for him?

didn't say he didn't have good years. I said he had one truly outstanding year. If he had multiple outstanding years, we would be talking the merits of a 1st round pick, but he hasn't. 2nd round not enough, 1st round too much is where I see it.

His application will be there at another club. He's lost it at Carlton.

He's been far more consistent than Sampi and has had one poor year in 7.

He's worth a late first rounder in this draft. If a club wants to get it done they'll part with it.

And how many truly outstanding seasons did Wellingham have? He went for a 1st rounder too.

That's not persuasive at all.

'Sure, sure – he'll be great at your club. Now give us your first-rounder.'

Sampi is merely a case in point that talent is one thing, application is another.

He's worth a late first rounder in this draft.
That doesn't mean anything unless a club is actually willing to offer that. Do you understand that?

You can't simply say 'this player is worth x amount', regardless of whether any team is actually willing to pay that in return.

Yep, the Pies dead set dacked the Eagles and went in dry. We paid overs for Hampson. From memory the Pies also somehow managed to get pick 20 for Dawes the spud. Some people pay overs, I hope we dont for Yarran

Neither you or I are the list managers of our respective clubs. Given his contract situation, If West Coast or Richmond would like the services of Christopher, you'll have to give up something we like.

Yarran has had 4 very good seasons. He's had 1 bad season. 2 completely different scenarios.

Spare me the patronising rhetoric. He'll go for whatever we decide is fair. He's a contracted player.

Do you understand that?

Sure. If you think he's not already out the door, which I'd suggest he is.

Not sure why you keep bringing WC into it. Has there been any indication that WC are remotely interested?

So stop flatly asserting that he's worth a first-rounder without acknowledging that a club actually has to be willing to give up a first-rounder for that to be the case.

If no club is willing to part with a first-rounder, he's not worth a first-rounder. If you don't grasp that basic truism, then I have to explain it to you in a way that may regrettably come off as patronising.

You pivot back to the fact that Yarran is contracted but it sounds like he has zero intention of playing at Carlton next year. And I'd question whether Carlton will be desperate to enforce that contract.

I'm reiterating that Richmond won't be the only team wanting to sign him. Competition drives the market force.

Have I ever denied a club will have to willingly part with a first-rounder? Neither you or I are club recruiters, so this entire discussion is hyperbole and conjecture. What you rate him doesn't necessarily align with how 17 club list managers rate him. If there are a few clubs interested, he'll go for a fair price.

We simply won't trade him if we don't get a good deal. We'd rather back Bolton to get his head right and having him potting goals from 50 again.
