As far as I can see, Brisbane can mitigate the loss but right now, and every decision they have made with Aish, has been the worst possible result.

1. It would have been pick 5 & Aish. Aish was happy to leave,

There is absolutely no evidence that Aish was "happy to leave" Brisbane at the end of 2014.

I think at some point you're going to need to come to grips with the fact your not going to get adequate compensation for a bloke who has requested a trade to a specific club. Thats why the go-home-boys were/are so damaging.

You're going to get unders, how far unders is up to Brisbane. Sending him to the draft and getting nothing is absurd, Collingwood is the team you'll be getting the most from but as i previously stated, it will be unders.

I think you can claim a lot of things about Brisbane, but talent identification and trade philosophy is an area Brisbane has had plenty of wins, with the likes of Staker, Martin, West, Beams, Robinson, Raines and Christensen all providing useful contributions over the last five years.

Brisbane supporters fall into two camps. There's the "no trade"rs, and they're not going to be satisfied with anything. There's the "negotiating position" ones, and I think most of us think two early second rounders is in the ballpark for minimum acceptable. However I'm not sure where the club sits but I'd imagine it'd be at least that as minimum acceptable, but could actually be higher. It's hard to read the situation since we've only found out where Aish was heading a few days ago.

I still don't get the impression that Oxley interests us - check out who we've been strongly linked to and they've all been confirmed fairly early on, in Bell and Jansen and maybe Whitecross and Suckling initially but then mutual cooling. It's not like Swann has been particularly backwards in confirming this kind of thing, so if we were pursuing Oxley I suspect it would have made the news some time ago and been confirmed - especially since he's uncontracted still.

Well he's from Queensland and out of contract. And it just so happens that he had a good year in what was essentially his first year with a proper go at it.

I can imagine the reason you haven't declared interest in him is simply because then this Aish trade would make way too much sense. Which it does.

1. Last year Collingwood asked for Aish in the Beams trade. It would have been pick 5 & Aish. Aish was happy to leave, but Brisbane knocked it back.

2. They included Pick 25 and Jack Crisp instead of Aish.

3. They are now going to lose Aish for nothing.

If there was a way to mitigate any potential loss in a player, Brisbane have gone as extreme as you can go in the opposite direction.

So Collingwood is mooted to be offering, at a minimum, a second rounder and a player.

And you're arguing that by dealing last year Brisbane could have saved themselves a second rounder but cost themselves more than that in 2015? So we'd have been worse off if we'd traded Aish last year?

I'm not sure your logic makes sense, even disregarding no credible reports of Aish wanting or nominating to leave as part of the Beams trade - unlike Crisp, who did put his hand up.

Even though the likes may be true, didn't really effect their ladder position. That is what I am referring to.

On a lighter note, I just saw this on a post on social media:

Brisbane will negotiate with Collingwood over James Aish.

But they must wait until ruckman Matthew Leuenberger choses between Sydney and Essendon, and the Pies close a deal with GWS for gun midfielder Adam Treloar, before they know what picks they hold, and what are available.

We managed to turn the 5 going home trades to the following bolded ones. Talent identification is not an issue for us, retention is.

In the list below, everyone bar Aish have re-signed. We are doing ok.

Isn't it Aish that chooses if he'll enter the PSD or not? He's uncontracted so BFC has very little say in it. Surely pushing players into the PSD is against the AFLPA's charter?

Absolutely spot on. We can't draft on talent alone .. I've we can't just pick the best player available at our draft pick .... But have to also guess if they can handle being away from Mummy, a non -AFL state etc.etc. Certainly not a level playing field.

Yeah, our lack of forward targets have really hurt us. Staker was good but then he's spent most of the last two years injured. Maguane even more so. The less said about Fev the better, and at least Lisle was cheap. Hopefully Schache finally improves that story.

Staker was traded for Pick 39 and played 50 games for the Lions, before retiring.
West was traded for Pick 41 and has played 12 games for the club. 27 years old he is still on the Lions list.
