Agreed.
Best available at each of our picks.
The one year we have a truck load of picks, and its the weakest Draft in a decade.

I don't know much about the draft but everything you read suggests it's shallow, rather than weak. There is a big difference, particularly when you have multiple first round picks

Strip it down and most importantly let's see what we need:

Key Defender
With Jamison nearing the end, Rowe potentially delisted, Jaksch still underdeveloped & White too injury-prone the acquisition of PLOWMAN is a great coup for the footy club. It's a no brainer this one. With the #1 pick we clearly have to take JACOB WEITERING.

Key Forward
Waite & Henderson both gone in the last 12 months, question marks (or at least a lot more time needed) on Foster. We glaringly need some assistance for Casboult. Schache will be taken at 2 & I expect Essendon to take Curnow at 5 & Melbourne to take Weideman at 7. (Note, Essendon had a nibble for Tomlinson & Melbourne are on record as saying they would like a key forward to help out Hogan). Regarded as a potential No.1 pick only 18 months ago & whilst only 192cm I think South Australian gun RYAN BURTON is the one we should be taking at pick #8. He could be more a pick #11 but I reckon Adelaide will snatch him at pick #9 if we don't...

Small forward / outside speed
The club, including Bolton, are on record as saying that outside speed is a must heading into the trade/draft. No Betts, Menzel, Garlett or Yarran and we quite obviously lack an x-factor/small forward/outside midfielder (Is Armfield even playing next year?). We looked at Jed Anderson & traded in Sumner & Lamb as hopefuls. For pick #11 I'm in two minds. I think if we take Burton at #8, Adelaide will take Sth Aus boy Wayne Milera at #9. So, for me it's either the super quick, dashing midfielder with the lethal left foot DARCEY TUCKER or the mercurial CALLUM AH-CHEE. Either or at this pick fills a need we really require.

Midfielder.
Without Judd, Carrazzo, Ellard & Bell we've lost the 4 main guys with real grunt/tackle work. I'm hopeful more than anything that CLAYTON OLIVER is still available at #19. Tom Bell is a poor man's CLAYTON OLIVER just to give you an example. Great hands, awareness and really hurts the opposition with his tackles. Goes forward, marks strongly & kicks goals. Not super quick but neither was the last three mentioned above. If Oliver is gone (I reckon Hawthorn are a big chance at #18), JADE GRESHAM would be my next best.

I strongly urge we ignore the concept of "need" entirely in this draft. We NEED everything. So get the best that's there at each pick - though of course it makes sense to get a variety of players rather than the best 4 KPDs, for instance.

Also only draft Victorians the GO HOME FACTOR is becoming more and more an issue these days so remove it out of the equation all together I reckon!!!!

A few notes on this.

Key Defender - Weitering, lock it in. Add to Plowman, Jamo, Rowe, White and I think we're OK for this year.

Key Forward - depends on whether one is available. Schache and Weideman both gone early I reckon. Burton an SA boy and not quite KP-size, don't think he's what we need, and we'll likely back ourselves to bring Tomlinson down next year. Bolton likely to implement the Hawthorn model - Casboult our Hale, Tomlinson to be our Roughead, then mediums everywhere to cause match-up headaches for opposition.

Small Forward/Outside Speed - we just traded Sumner and Lamb in, plus Boekhorst, Tutt and Clem last year. Plus DylBucks. Reckon this need is covered for now, especially if it'd cost a first rounder.

Midfielder - definitely. Clarke, Mathieson, Oliver and Gresham at the top of my list, and I reckon we could get 2 of this lot.

So for me - key defender at 1, couple of versatile mids with 11 and 19, and 8 goes on the best available at that pick, hoping something handy slides to us.

i reckon the Weed and Curnow may be gone by 8, so i'd take Weitering with 1 and Collins with 8.
Play together at Stingrays, know each others games. There's our KPD'S for next 10 years.
BTW they can both play fwd as well.
Then i'd go best available mids with 11 and 19.

Can Plowman play fb? Or CHB

CHF probably the ideal spot for him.

Think Jeremy McGovern for West Coast or Easton Wood for the Dogs, but with more capacity to run the ball out of defence.

Will be at his best when he can read the play rather than be accountable for a key forward.

I would go tall there is apparently some great midfielders in next seasons draft and i reckon its a good time to draft talls.
1 Weitering
8 Burton
11 Harry Mckay
19 Rioli/Ryan Clarke
59 Silvagni
60 Tim Sullivan

Then I think Collins at pick 8. This would enable us to have the best 2 kpd for the next 12 years.

Clayton Oliver's highlights look fantastic (then again, so do everybody's).

Looks like he could play as a quicker bullocking midfielder... his bash and crash style reminds me of Tom Bell.

Any draft watchers know how he compares with Matt Crouch from a few years ago?
Although not the worst comparison, I wouldn't compare him to crouch.
Not that I'm saying he's going to get to the same level but personally, I think he's a lot like Dangerfield at the same age. Doesn't quite have the same top end explosive pace, but he's a bull, and bursts thru packs the same way, I'd be all over him at 11. Added bonus being its 1 pick before the tigs, who he trained with and rate him very highly. I don't think he gets past their pick.

1 Weitering
8 Collins
11 Oliver
19 Rioli
59 Silvagni
60 Schoenfeld

That's 2 KPP's in the top 8... Quality.
A big bodied mid that crashes packs, tackles ferociously, strong hands in the contest and marks and kicks goals at 11.Beast.
Rioli... Quick agile goalkicker at 19. Bloodlines A++
SOSOS... A forward like his father started out, who knows at 59. Bloodlines A++
Schoenfeld... An aerobic, gut running machine at 60. Could be a dashing linkman.

No doubt.

With us at Ground Zero and Weitering at #1, gotta go best available.
