The obvious player for me was Garry McIntosh. I believe he was asked and the crows wanted him but he turned down the offer to stay loyal to Norwood? and he was also hoping for Norwood to win the next AFL bid maybe?
Were there any other big names or other players that the crows wanted to sign apart from the Platten, Sticks, Jarman etc...
Im surprised we let Richard champion and Allan Jacovich go seeing they had big years in 1990 in the sanfl.

thoughts?

Richard Champion wanted to come to the Crows, but there were a capped number of "drafted" players that we could list.

Darren Jarman had agreed to the last spot so Champion went to Brisbane - before Jarman backed out of his agreement with the Crows to take more money from Hawthorn.

Greg Phillips is one that Cornesy has always spoken about I reckon, as a guy that they tried really hard to convince but couldn't.

Macca had the loyalty which is a great quality but to me there's something about a guy who wants to stay a big fish in an ever smaller pond.

Jarman was the one though, he wanted to win a flag which he did do. He probably would've been a 3 time premiership hero at the Crows had he been there in 93.

From memory, he was in your initial squad and went to a few pre-season training sessions, but then said he wanted to stay in the SANFL.

Re Aish - not sure if he considered himself too old or just didnt want to play at that level (Im assuming he was invited by AFC, although not 100% certain).

Reckon he would have been a touch old in 91, and didn't want to make a move for a year.

Macca was promised that the club would try and get into the AFL. He didn't see the point in leaving if the Redlegs got into the AFL.

Norwood were never getting into the AFL during McIntosh's career. If he thought they were he was pretty silly. Was absolutely no chance.
I tend to think it was more of a moral dilemma for him. He wouldn't have played for Port if they entered and he thought playing for the newly created club wasn't right thing to do either. I reckon he was a bit of a dill and missed a great opportunity, but admire his loyalty and honor in a way too.

I think Wally Miller played a big part [emoji4]

Macca didn't want to train at AFL levels... Lived a fair way out too from memory.. Loved the legs pity his coaching stint didn't work out

Did we get near Wanganeen? Thought he mentioned something about it on open mike, cant remember.

Was coming back at the end of 93 until port told him to wait until they get in.

Gavin has always said, he wanted to join a "real club" and that is why he went to Essendon. Was never coming to the Adelaide Football Club.

Paul Roos had agreed to play for the club and was over the line after his Fitzroy days but can not remember why he never came to the club.

Fitzroy refused to trade as they blamed us for there position. They felt they weren't being pushed out for financial reasons.

Mid 1991 I remember hearing about a possibility Craig Bradley wanted to come home but that never eventuated.

Kernahan we wanted but was never going to happen. That is where the "play the crows to increase your current contract card" started.

Does anyone know the story about Bone being given the Crows credit card on a trip to Melbourne to try and entice sticks over.

I'm sure I've heard Cornesy tell it and the idea was Bone and another (McGuiness?) were to pay for drinks all night and get a deal over the line.

The night apparently ended with the Crows boys passed out and Sticks continuing to get blind all on the Crows tab.

I wondered if he belted out a version of Stand By Your Man.

One of the stories was that Bradley was a little offended that the Crows always saw Sticks as the #1 target and got all the attention, despite never really wanting to come home, when it was Bradley who was the one who could have been convinced if not made to feel like the 2nd banana.

It certainly was the tone, there was this romantic notion that Sticks was going to come home and play a SoO blinder every game and win the Crows a flag.

Certain people and the media would talk it up as a possibility but old Harry called BS on it every time. He was never leaving Carlton.

We had a real crack at Doug Hawkins in 92 from memory. And were close.
