There is no way Han is alive. Why? Because Harrison Ford is too bloody expensive for sequels. His already on $30million plus percentage. He could earn $70million for The Force Awakens, not bad for a supporting actor. He is definitely dead.

Hamill and Fisher are cheap and will be in the sequels.

There is NO indication from any canon material that the base can travel. The novel doesn't say it, the movie doesn't say it, the visual dictionary doesn't say it. Hell, the movie shows a hyperspace capable laser beam that was invented a plot point because the planet itself couldn't move.

Some guy form Lucasfilm who has not written anything about this on the website or any in official material posts a three word answer to a fan who wants to know (as I do) how this stupid implausible super weapon works. And you lap this twitter response up like it's canon, lol. I'm sorry, but it's not canon. Twitter isn't canon. How many times do you need to be told?

Nothing about the planet being able to travel. Nothing.

Dan is a bit of a bell end, but I think he might be right.

Based on that, the StarKiller doesn't destroy the sun it's pulling energy from, it just takes what it needs; and its energy weapon shoots through hyperspace (which is a bit *******), so it wouldn't need to move.

From what the hints are in GL's treatment Luke wouldn't really have much of a story at all. He was supposed to be the "Grandpa" figure in this case, and he Leia and Han were just cameos. These series are serials, you have to move them forward rather then constantly having the same people. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford are all older people now, in their 60s and 70s. Most of the stuff that would be expected of them, they can't do, and I wouldn't want them to do. What would you want? A perfect world where there was no trouble at all? That would become dull, and for a while the EU had that, and you know what happened, they created the Vong to spice things up. You can't have a narrative where things are all okay, it doesn't work like that.

How did it destroy things? By having Han die? Leia in the role of leader, I mean, what could have been done differently. Sure you could keep Han alive, fine and dandy, but then what? What conflict do you give the characters that doesn't "destroy" what happened before. Because you kind of have to wreck things in some way in order for a story to be told. A Utopia that stands without conflict is static. Luke wasn't run over by a bus. He's had his Academy screwed over before in the EU. This isn't the first time he went into self imposed hiding and probably won't be the last.

Regarding reviews, it is overall positive, but you see a lot of mixed and bad reviews (who don't bash just for the sake of it and instead really go very detailed through the whole story). Here for example on amazon:

One of negative reviews catched many of the points we mentioned here and even went through all the scenes (+copied dialogue from the previous movies). A good action movie, but a bad sequel to ROTJ. It is in German, but it is really a good structured one, so you may check it with google translate:

Luke is a superman like character in a lot of ways because of how over the years the EU built him up. You can't have Luke as the lead now because of the fact that he is just that strong. The writers even stated before that they had more of Luke but, like Clark Kent, if you bring him in how much of a problem will you have that you can't solve in like five minutes? The story became less about the new guys and more about Luke and his quest, and, I'm sorry but, we've had Luke's quest, in the OT and also in the EU. One of the reasons they made Anakin solo back then was to pass down the torch, to allow for new characters and to evolve the old ones.

You know what hurts, at least Luke, Leia, and Han are in the series, at least they still exist. Fans that grew up with the EU have to watch as their characters, Mara, Thrawn, Jacen, Jania, Anakin, Ben, are discarded and probably won't be seen again outside of the non cannon legends now. I will never get to see Mara Jade on screen, I will never get to have a moment with Anakin Solo or see Thrawn show off what the Chiss can do. And you know, I can live with that, because I still have the books and the comics. The OT is not going anywhere. Luke the savior, golden child, whatever you want to call him, is still there as he was back in 77, that's not going to change. His story is still in the EU and you can still read it. TFA did not throw him under a bus, they just moved his story forward rather then leaving him stuck spinning his wheels.

I can't tell you the amount of modern day films with really sterile and dull dialogue, the amount is rediculous...post year 2000...

The new characters are truly great and memorable...

Harrison Ford deserves an Oscar nomination...

The movie just oozes coolness!!!

Seen it twice and so many different layers unravel on the second viewing...

You just miss bits of it on the first viewing because of the anticipation and shock of how quickly things move along ..

The new SW is all about the Skywalker Family tree. The whole "what happens to Anakin's grandchildren" topic.

Kylo the spawn of Leia Skywalker Organa.....and Rey the spawn of Luke Skywalker.

Imo....100% guaranteed....it's about a split in the family tree.....Kylo's side turning dark, and Rey's side turning light. Both branches will forge ahead attached to more dark and light side characters. And even where in Kylo's branch there'll be the odd light side person, and in Rey's side the odd dark side user. A typical family, where there's division and rivalries.

It's inevitable for Disney to kill off Luke, Leia and Han. And most likely, by the end of Ep9, (tho one or the other will get killed in Ep8), they'll both be dead, and a cliff-hanger ending will set up things for X thru to XII with all the new characters in VII, plus the new characters in VIII and IX, to carry the SW torch, and we will ALL be embracing it and eager to follow the story. Even those who say they'll ditch SW if Luke dies.

The writing and the new long-term characters will all be very interesting. There'll be female dark siders. There'll be new Han Solo-like characters. There'll be menacing political types. There'll be untrustworthy groups of people, like the Acolytes and the Church. There'll be new princesses needing to be saved. Etc. A lot of that affection we'll have will come from excellent writing, and hot up-and-coming actors and actresses that we'll fall in love with. Like me and Kylo (in bromance sort of way).

A lot of people are just looking at everything from a small fan pov. But if you were part of the truly great world of Disney, who've made billions of great stories, you'd appreciate more the need to move old actors/characters on, to bring in new ones WHEN taking a universe like SW and aiming to explore and expand it, create thousands more movies, tv shows, books, comics, animation, etc.

That's why I'm most excited about the Anthology series. Disney's chance to move to any point in the massive EU (old or new) and make movies of the thousands of interesting SW characters and not just the Skywalker family. And I'm hoping Disney uses the Anthology series to make more adult-orientated content seeing as so much of SW is geared for children and young adults.

So, the main trilogy series will continue to focus on the Skywalker family, that's its LEGACY. It's reason d'etre.
