I had a quick read of the players code of conduct last night.



Could someone clarify whether the bolded and following means this only applies when a player is "on duty". If not then Dusty made no breach of the code. On the other hand the most the AFL could punish him with is a $5k fine?

Also section 26 of the CBA - game development and promotion covers a players obligations to promote the sport:



It could be argued then that Dusty or any player for that matter actually has no authority or obligation to promote the game in their own time so the whole bringing the game into disrepute argument is moot.

Yep exactly. The AFLPA will be all over it like a rash so the AFL will need to be very reasonable about their approach. Likely to come back to RFC to be dealt with by the leadership group if anything at all.

I'll be dirty if the AFL give him too much, however whatever the club decide to do about it I'm happy with.

I'd be surprised if the AFL give him anything . They'll be liasing with the club to ensure the club gives him a penalty big enough that the AFL doesn't have to be seen as giving a penalty and escape any scrutiny or negative press.
