Bare in mind that Boyd didn't travel at all last year, so will likely miss Rd's 9, 12, 15 (altho with a BYE in there he may not miss all 3)...definitely won't play rd. 23 and might not play rd. 19 @ Geelong (altho did last year.)...

...actually, speaking of Geelong, they were the only team last year to sit on him. He had zero marks in that game (4 was his lowest otherwise) as they just didn't let the Dogs switch thru him. 66 SC points.
0 marks, lowest possession count for the year and Dogs score 64 and lost. (Equal 2nd lowest losing score for the year.)

I was really surprised it didn't happen more often given the way we play(ed). If Murphy or JJ (or now Suckling) can't take off with it up field then plan B is to always look for Boyd on the switch.

But, I'm not an AFL coach! :p

It does make me wonder about this year tho...o_O

Will be interesting to see the McGovern roll this year with Mckenzie and Brown back from injury.

I like Roberton although his ankle issues give me slight doubt.
Think both will come good mid year. So not top 10 and not worth starting with. Interesting none the less.

I'm pretty sure I'll be starting with Boyd. You?

Boyd really worries me - because he could be really good or a real dud. Could easily see him scoring 110+ in the first few weeks, equally he might struggle. Still you can say the same about so many defensive choices this year. Choosing from defenders that cost more than 500k is killing me.

If I had a choice between mcveigh or matthew boyd as defenders, who should I take?

Mcveigh has had an interrupted preseason, while Boyd won't travel interstate and there's a slight unknown about his scoring potential with Suckling and Adcock coming in
I'd take McVeigh out of those 2, but I like Rance

playing supercoach draft.

who do youreckon I should select?

Yes Jordan
Will be number 1 ruck in a competitive side.
He's reasonably agile and i don't rate any of the KPD

Birch will spend a lot more time as a mid

Highly doubt I'll be pissed enuff to gamble on Jordan but he's in the rolex club

You're wrong about Jordan Roughead playing ruck this year, bud.

"The first ruck position is one in particular that will be hotly contested across the next month of the preseason competition.

A handful shared the responsibility in 2015, and Beveridge said form will be the ultimate decider for who’s rewarded with the round one start.

“All of our potential candidates will play through there during the NAB series and whoever plays the best will grab the one or two, or even three spots for that first game against Fremantle,” he said.

It’s between Will [Minson], it’s between Tommy Campbell, Tommy Boyd, Jack Redpath who we know pinch hit there last year, and Luke Goetz.

“It will take him a while, but it’s probably between those five guys, whether or not they’ll share the load or we’ve got one or two who have a 50/50 type approach.”

Defence is pretty tricky this year, Shaw like Goldy far and away the best option, but you have to pay for it, and then theres 15-20 blokes who could realistically be pretty even. For me having both Shaw and Goldy was a bit of a stretch and I figured Goldy was more of a must have, so that rules out Shaw as a starter.

I've gone with Laird/Bartel/Birchall/KK at this stage.
Laird- Just really rate him as a footballer, would be an injustice to his talent if he doesn't further progress this year
Bartel- The old pro, now fit again should go 90+ you would think, more than good enough down back even if not quite at his best
Birchall- What really appeals is his consistency, when you look at all options you don't see a lot of it, and I think he's had a rough time with injuries the last few years which has restricted him a bit, Nab 1 went a step closer to locking him in.
KK- Had him from the start, so much potential and such a classy player already. Could average 95 without breaking a sweat.

On Birchall, he's only 28. Thats a pretty good age. With ROughy gone and the mighty power of the Hawks slightly reduced this year, the ball may be back in defence a bit more.

On this, it will really be interesting to see if Birch will ever be a midfielder. It has been spoken about, but really I think he's better down back.
If he is mid. He's in. No problem.
