Suing and Leaving are 2 different things but does sound Fishy
You don't sue your employer and then keep working for them Dave. He's out the door.

I'd be disappointed if we gave up anything decent for Heppel looking at our deficiencies in other areas, in fact I'd be gutted.
Pretty sure most clubs will be pushing hard for players to break their contracts and become free agents rather than trading for them.

I thought we don't have to give anything up

We wouldn't have to give up anything except cap space, but I agree with others that a kpp & quick crumbing forward are more urgently needed in our team right now.

Has it been confirmed that they are or will be subject to any free agency - actually disregard, just read an article on this.

He'd get better money elsewhere I think but someone like a Hurley I'd certainly entertain.

There could be method to the madness.

If he would stay , he would like to command a higher paycheck for the mess he got in. That has its limits due to the cap space Essendon has to oblige to.
However.....As far as I know, the salary cap is not related to the financial situation of the club.
A court case resulting in a lump sum payment for Essendon wouldn't fall under the salary cap, but normal operating expenses. Maybe even insurance. They can give him whatever ( he/they) want and still keep a warchest to recruit.

Wouldn't he be a Free Agent so we would not have to give up anything. Just Cap Room

I still believe the AFL will pay of all the suspended players on the sly.

By the way when is Jobe losing his Brownlow???

Heppell would be pretty decent as a mid/half-back who can most certainly kick. I certainly wouldn't view him as a luxury item on our list.
