How many second/third/fourth round picks does it take to get one of your first rounders?

Your 2017 picks could nab a first off us. But all depends if the rules change and late picks aren't worth much. Let's see what your clubs complaining gets us first

How is your legal eagles argument going versus the other clubs complaining?

What are your arguments and how are you going to mitigate vested interests of the powerful clubs in Victoria from a legal perspective in attempting to claim the will of the people versus the will of the powerful elite club manipulators?

Nah, was better holding out, now we'll get #1 in 16 and 17.
No chance that will happen. We won't get the spoon. We will get pick 4 or 5 for McCarthy and your pick 16. That seems fair. If we get that number 1 pick were trading it for john butcher. Lol

He should of went to freo...

Freo have a long rebuild and are way outside Rances window.

I just think with Rance and Davis GWS have the defense KPP locked up with a bit of flexibility and really sows up there team for the next 5 years while they develop the Riverina youngsters.

They could easily win without Rance this year but against better teams going forward it would be ideal to have a better defensive structure and they are fairly strong in other areas I think anyway.

They have plenty of forward KPP's although could do with some versatility, plenty of mid options and quality depth which helps if the pure elite factor is a little lacking, Rucks can always be brought in as a specialised fit and provided competitive do not need to be overly brilliant as in the Hawthorn eras before

Why would you want to part with dance tho?

Apparently we are into Jack Steele and he would of come across last year if Carlton didnt take so long with the Yarran deal.
Do you think you guys would do Steele and Marchbank for our 1st?

Jack Steele ... would of come across last year

BigFooty just gets more and more delusional by the day.

I mean... When you lot thought you had Dom Tyson in your pocket because his dad was apparently a coterie member, I thought that was silly enough - btw, how'd that work out?

When you lot thought you had Dylan Sheil in your pocket because he was dating your assistant coach's daughter, I thought that was pretty silly too - btw, how'd that work out?

Just by-the-by, on the Dom Tyson's dad is a coterie member thing - Jack Steele's mum and dad are both FOUNDATION members of the Giants. Long before their 14 year old son was on the radar, they were among the first to sign up and jump on board the new club.

What on earth makes you think he wants to play for Richmond?

a burning desire for mediocrity

Do you think you guys would do Steele and Marchbank for our 1st?

Did you think that through before suggesting it?

Marchbank was a pick 6 and had established himself as best 22 and Steele was a pick 24 (bid on by Nth Melb at pick 16) who is best 22 and you think we will package those up for a 1st rounder??

At least if you said Steele for your 1st rounder straight swap it might be something worth discussing but then you just get silly and greedy and make the whole thing impossible.

FWIW I think Steele is gettable....I realise his parents are inaugural members and he is a Canberra boy but I just don't know. Maybe he's just a reserved lad but he never really looks that happy and I am really surprised he has not re-signed. I like the way he plays and reckon he would be a gun either way but he might be a Josh Bruce type.

If he did go he would command a 1st rounder, nothing less.

Great come back from G1

And one wonders what Clark thinks has caused a "spike" in NSW talent levels.
Hmmmm. What could it possibly be?

Can't see Steele leaving out of the out of contract players. Before this year, sure, but now that's he's basically best 22 and not right on the fringe it just seems bizarre unless someone comes out with a huge offer and that just doesn't happen for non-Brownlow winning mids (barring a new expansion club).

Assume Carlton finishes bottom 4, and GWS play finals.

Would you consider a pick swap plus Tomlinson?

Would Marchbank be on the table this year? I would have thought not?

I'll be honest and say, after last year, all things are possible. However, I would caution that if AFL House does anything drastic about academy trading, then everything would have to be re-evaluated. Otherwise, who is allowed to go will depend on the overall balance of the side and the likely draftees' positions.

If Tommo stays on the fringes of the team (in & out throughout the season) and he decides to go back to Victoria, then a second round pick is probably around the mark, and so Tommo plus the GWS pick (on current table #14) for Carlton's pick (I'd suggest closer to #4 than #1) is about OK. (That would value Tommo at 873 points, or about #21. Tables positions will alter that a touch & might require someone adding a late rounder.) I'd suggest that the further away from #1 Carlton is the more likely a trade could happen, since SOS won't hold us to ransom for a lower pick. Of course, based on last year's trading, it could be something much different.

GWS won't want to lose Caleb Marchbank, and would only do so if the lad was homesick. Notwithstanding that such an outcome would, in the eyes of some, reduce his value, I'd expect GWS to want around his draft value given we think he's good and he's had firsts experience and 2 years development.

I doubt Carlton will get a blockbuster deal like last year - GWS can't afford to be too benevolent to a rival, and last year's guys had some specific circumstances (PSD, rookie, injury fail high draft pick & high salary) that contributed to 'that deal'. Have to say, though, if SOS comes knocking again Carlton will get tagged as the Southern Giants, Giants reserve etc.

Thanks. That's some excellent insight.

I don't think Carlton would be worried about the 'GWS offcuts' tag. If CFC can turn offcuts into players then so be it. Things that make another CFC/GWS deal likely are that (a) SOS knows the list, and (b) there might be some pull in fringe GWS players coming to Carlton being able to reunite with some familiar GWS faces. My only reservation is that Carlton might not have something to offer GWS this year. I assume points, but we will all be watching to see how GWS needs pan out. I suspect also that a number of other clubs will be interested in trading with GWS which will allow GWS to sell their stock to the highest bidder.

As for the mega deal last year - you have to wonder what would have happened to Lamb, Phillips and Sumner if they were not part of that deal. I am not too sure (as I didn't see any of those three play all that much) but my understanding was that they were moved for list space, because they were significantly down the pecking order.
