He's still be the fittest player at Carlton.. and Essendon will be looking for anyone they can get, when they have to fill the void left by all of the drug fiends who walk out on them.

Blicavs is by far the fittest player at Geelong with the added advantage of being able to play football.

Being fit is not the whole package

Blicavs would be a nice one to have, better at being a midfielder than our bottom mids, and he can chop Jacobs out in the ruck, letting us leave Jenkins as a permanent forward.

If wishes were fishes.

Seems a bit of a strange way to classify players.. top 6/bottom 6. Why is the number 6 even relevant at all?

I think it's fairly certain that 4 players will be retired/delisted - Jaensch, VB, Grigg, Lowden. I think it's highly likely that Henderson will find a new home as a UFA. That's 5 vacancies. I strongly suspect that those will be the only departures in 2016, unless Thompson decides to retire as well (and I think that's unlikely).

I think we'll use our 1st and 3rd round selections on live picks. I'm hopeful that our 4th round selection will be enough to grab Ben Jarman as a F/S selection. O'Brien's upgrade is a near certainty. I think one of Beech, Greenwood and Keath will be promoted - with Beech the most likely.
Lol you think the crows will secure Jarman with a 4Th rounder? I have seen him play. Just like milera last year at centrals, he will stand out. He will be a good player

Dear is 197cm and 19 years old and has had significant injuries in the last couple of years. He's not AFL ready by any stretch, but I reckon there is a lot to work with there, as long as the body holds up.

Agreed, a lot to work with when it comes to Dear, but he's still a fair way off. Its difficult because physically he looks ready, but I suspect maturity wise for a big fella and in terms of fitness and confidence he's a fair way from it. At this stage, he's highly unlikely to get a game this year, however I'd definitely be giving him an extra year on the list to see what he can do.

Well, that's good to hear. Happy to pay whatever he's worth - all report have him in the 50s range more than the 30s range.

5AA saying Neale is worth a 1st and third pick. Hmmm. Given how Thommo is playing right now, the ability for Crouch M and B to improve, what is the need for another accumulator?
So we have no picks to the 4th round...

I don't think so.

I can't see we have room for a trade unless its a swap of players. The pressure will be on to upgrade O'Brien, at least one of Greenwood and Keath and probably Beech if they maintain form. Then we need 2 picks in a strong draft and maybe a father/son. We won't have enough spots on the list for all of these even if we're ruthless at delisting. Those extra contract years for Otten etc may come back to bite
Imo, we should be looking to also trade out a player or 2 - players who have been in our system a while who we don't think will get much opportunity. Eg. Like kerridge this year.

We should be targeting GWS and GCS players not getting a game but that have talent to play good AFL footy. Think about it, this time last year Aaron Hall wason the outer at Gold Coast and now he is one of their gun midfielders. There has to be more players like that on either teams' list not getting a regular game. I want us do pull another Hampton like trade. Get the talent on the cheap.
Moreso Gws imo.

Most reports I've read indicate that he's unlikely to go in the first 2 rounds. If another club bids their 3rd round selection, then our 4th should go close to matching the points required.

Who do you propose? Note that players can't be traded against their will, so the player has to want to be traded (or at least be willing to be talked into it).

The players who most closely meet your criteria are: CEY, Grigg, Lyons, Shaw, Kelly, Henderson and Otten. Of those...
  • Grigg is almost certain to be delisted. Unlikely to find another home at AFL level, there's a slim chance that he could get picked up as a DFA. Either way, we get nothing for him.
  • Henderson can, and probably will, leave as a UFA. If we're lucky, we might get an end-of-3rd-round compensation pick for him. I'm betting we get nothing, as we did when Chris Knights left.
  • Lyons is the only other player who is out of contract at the end of the year. He's also the only member of this group who is likely to play regularly this year, being just outside our best 22 and one of the first players brought in when other players get injured. He's probably the best bet, if the club is desperate to trade someone out - but he's never shown any inclination to leave Adelaide, despite previously having been given opportunities to do so.
  • CEY, Shaw, Kelly and Otten are all contracted for 2017. If they don't want to go, then there's no way of making them leave. We can't even threaten them with non-selection at AFL level, given that none of them are close to becoming AFL regulars anyway.

What if Hawks use a first just shut us out on Ben jarman. They may bank on their culture to turn him from a good to great

I can't see that happening - it's unlikely that a team would use a 1st round selection on a kid rated as a 3rd round talent. Then again, nobody saw Adelaide picking Doedee with pick #17 in last year's draft.

Depends on how highly Adelaide rate Ben Jarman, relative to the other talent in the draft. Yes, they'd love to have a F/S selection after all these years, but they're not going to compromise their whole draft strategy to make that happen. If Adelaide sees him as a 3rd round talent, then they probably wouldn't bother matching a 1st round bid.

At this time they will not use there first, Too many top Mids in this years draft, from Melb, Add to that GWS x 3, GC, Syd, and Bris will using the first round picks on Local talent, For the hawks to bid it will be 19/20 plus picks, Allowing us to use picks 3 and 4 along with a little help from pick 3 next year.
Reasoning if they finish out of the top 4 there will be top end local talent, if they win it it will be around pick 20

Apparently Lachie neale on Twitter mentioned something about playing with sandilands in 2017. This is getting more and more unlikely every week.

I think we have enough Neale types. Want a big body like cripps. Someone who can move a pack

Too early to propose anything, as we have the season to play out first to decide.

All I'm saying is it is healthy to trade players who you don't think will feature much in the AFL team or we don't expect the players to play consistent footy at the level we expect.

Also, it is usually better for the player as they get a fresh opportunity... so they may be happy to move if still under contract (but I wouldn't force anyone out if they really didn't want to leave if under contract).

It doesn't really matter if we get later picks for them, particularly if we need points for say Jarman's son.

I reckon Sam Mayes will be our only trade this off season.

I think our philosophy is to look to upgrade players 10 - 22 on our list, players who are looking to move for reasons other than money. You have to pay overs to get elite talent into your club and bringing them in can destroy your depth like it has done to port.

With Freo's form they won't be getting Hogan or any other established KPP, so they will have a lot more money to throw at Lachie Neale than we will.
