Media reports of Fremantle 'tanking' to benefit later on

Putting them in for end of season surgery (like we did with Fyfe) is only natural when you have nothing to play for. When they don't get surgery til september/october they won't have a pre-season for next year. It is nothing to do with losing those games, it's about getting ready for the year after. Don't forget the Eagles finished 2nd last in 2008 as well so it wasn't as if they were top of the ladder the year before.. And it took them til 2015 to get back to the GF. The more often you finish down the bottom the slower the climb up. Look at Richmond, Carlton, Melbourne, Collingwood, Bulldogs.. Took them ages to get back to the summit.

Fyfe has a broken leg he had to have surgery. Some Eagles players could have put off surgery just like Kenedy did last year with his elbow.

Did you read the rest of it? Or did you just see the Fyfe part only? Tanking does not actually work and has never worked.

Yes true

Other posters were referring to their losing culture
I try to ignore other post, obviously we didn't tank intentionly, if Barlow and deboer the solution play them in the first team , not peel.

That's the same as what we did in 2011. Mass injuries, a few 1-2 week niggles. Towards the end it was clear that the season was good as done.

I don't get why we want to risk further injuries to key players just for the sick of media want to said what they like.is like we want to tank so that hill get injured.

I might use it next time someone says the owen joke. However missing Fyfe, Sandi, Bennell, Johnson, Mundy (3 games) and now Hill is the really reason.

You take 4 to 6 of a teams best players out of any team and see how they go.

Imagine Sydney without Malcheski, Hanners, Parker, Tippett, Kennedy.

Imagine West Coast without Priddis, Nic Nat, Gaff, Shuey, Hurn.

Imagine Geelong without Danger, Selwood, Motlop, Taylor, Guthrie.

Our skills have been deplorable for some reason but injuries have taken a massive toll.

Also we seem to have played most of the better teams so far (besides Gold Coast) and we have had opportunities to win in most of the games so far

Meanwhile the mob up the road have played 18, 16, 15, 14 and 12 for their 5 wins so far.

You do realise that if we actually did tank that the AFL will fine us and take away our draft picks?

We aren't tanking anyway, we are just playing like s**t while missing 3 of our top 5 and 4 of our top 10 as well as other injuries throughout the year and other players out of form.

AFL will have to prove that we tanked, which is incredibly hard to do unless there was a rat from inside the club willing to snitch.

That's how Melbourne got done for tanking.

We haven't tanked. RTB admitted as much that we are getting games into young players but that is not tanking.

I am convinced we will be beet a few sides in the last half of the year and finish 14th or 15th.

Why would we want to tank only to be able to get 1 high first round pick and in a draft where there are no real KPP's which we need. The real problem is what happens if we give "the kids" all these games and they show they are not really as good as we all thought, barring Alex Pearce. What is our Plan B?

Then we are not tanking, why care about what media said.

Its really plan C, because the so called A team are crap.

Then we start with the RTB, Bondy, the Steves, moving to utensil-burn. ;)

suggesting that we do not play any of our good players such as hill because they might get injured would make the AFL sanction us and that is what the comment i quoted was referring to.

I agree that in the situation we are in now it is very hard to actually sanction us for tanking as there is no real proof(+ the fact we actually aren't tanking), not playing certain players to avoid injury would be sanctioned by the AFL.

The other thing about Melbourne is that they lost nothing but some money via a fine and perhaps staff got banned (they did just not sure they were still at Melbourne).

Basically the AFL knew they were tanking but couldn't prove it. If Carlton got away with it, we will. Anyway pretty sure we're not tanking. Doubt the AFL thinks so either.

Yeah that's not the only reason we are so s**t. Writing was on the wall last year.
