Teams always look fractured when they're not playing well.

A month ago Collingwood and Richmond were the teams under fire, being questioned. They've both turned things around on the field and all of a sudden the pressure gauge has loosened. A few weeks ago there were rumours of a personal rift between Boak and Hartlett that were supposedly the cause of Port's form. Three wins from four weeks later, is anyone talking about those rumours anymore?

It is unfathomable to think that there could be some internal problems within the club just a fortnight after a six game winning streak.

Simply, we were slack against Collingwood early and it cost us the game. We outplayed them for the majority of the game after that but our costly start hurt us in the end.

Against Carlton the intent was OK in the first quarter. We made some terrible turnovers (Motlop's poor play leading to their first goal, a hack kick from Enright deep in defense that landed in a Carlton player's arms) and missed some shots at goal. We didn't sustain the pressure in the second quarter and Carlton did. They put work into some key playmakers - Motlop, Blicavs and Selwood.

These seem to be fixable problems. If we win on Saturday, there'll be no talk about disharmony.

Tend to agree.
The simple things are the key

Can you please provide cliff notes for those unable to watch it live?

Forecast ebbs and flows, but in a flat spot right now.

Don't have all the answers yet, but working hard to identify them.

Skills lettng them down.

Need all cylinders firing to win, can't win if not all parts functioning.

When parts down, perception can be effort has been sacrificed.

Just a couple of players down can bring a side down. Buckley agreed with this.

- Goalkicking a major issue, were in danger of wasting dominance against Adelaide, this has been a pattern 3 weeks in a row now

- In 2011 we found ways to win. Since then we need things to go right to win. Too many parts of our game are way off.

- Isolated examples from yesterday look like a lack of effort. Defensive part of the game is effort based, we didn't do it well enough yesterday.

- We've identified 2-4 parts of our game that are off at the moment and that's enough to get beaten by anyone.

- This season will ebb and flow. We don't have a right to say we're one of the better teams in the comp.

- It's a tight comp, if a few chains aren't working you're in trouble.

- Skills - it's amazing in isolating a supposed lack of effort happens when skill errors occur and players out of posltion.

- Levers we pulled on the weekend didn't work well enough. Two weeks of bad form is clearly a pattern and we have to fix it.

Did I read correctly that Scott said that with eight day breaks.... they have not been training hard.

Probably going to be a comment that gets lost in all the rest, but is anyone frustrated with the general development of our players at VFL and AFL level. Sometimes i read the state league raps and i'm in awe of how other clubs develop there kids and the way they play.

Collingwood for a few years ago for example had ample standout performers in their VFL, likewise the WAFL and SAFL all sport some really good fringe players who smash at disposals. I know the VFL is a harder league for players to stand out but I expect more sometimes. Why can't kids like Bates, Parsons for example really take the game on and pick it up fast. They've been playing for years in juniors and state.

It's a damn shame when i look at our VFL list and you see guys like Cowan, GHS, Smedts etc, guys that should be in their prime but they're just not.

Do we have a development or cultural problem at the club right now. It really makes me question.

List management problems. A lot of the kids who aren't performing are the ones you wouldn't expect to - very late picks or rookie selections. Some players have been kept on the list for too long when they've done nothing to warrant it, and the club has taken so few high picks into the drafts in the last several years that it's starved the side of having more quality young players to pick from. Again, doesn't matter so much if the side is performing well now when it has the players we've traded the future for playing, but if it's not performing well...

18 Team competition,we have had priority picks to contend with, Gold Coast and GWS concessions the pickings for a side like Geelong who have finished around the top of the ladder for an extended period have been thin.We are doing magnificently well to be where we are.

No, we don't have the right to say that at all. But anyone can try and twist it anyway they like, fact is the club recruited to fill needs for the now, we got who we wanted and needed, we are playing for the now, missing top 4 or not going deep in finals would be a failure.

While we have Selwood, Taylor, Dangerfield, Hawkins in their prime, we need to get going now.

In a few years, hopefully our younger brigade will have taken another step up, but by then we will have lost Enright, Lonergan, Mackie, Bartel, Taylor will be 32/33, Selwood will be a banged up 30/31 year old, Dangerfield will be 29/30, Hawkins the same, and I honestly believe Hawkins has 3-4 years left.

If, with this current team, dwindle around 5-8th for this season and 2017, once those guys mentioned move on and our prime players near the end, we will start dwindling around the 10-14th mark.

Maybe I can start a running tally:

When we win

- Simon Lloyd has made a massive difference
- Dangerfield is carrying us
- Anyone could coach this team
- *crickets chirping/tumbleweeds/awkward coughs*

When we lose

- Scott shouldn't have picked Player A over Player B
- No Plan B
- 'Mission Accomplished'
- Smug and arrogant
- Remember when Scott didn't pick West in that Qualifying final??

Feel free to add. We can save some internet here guys. :D
Just corrected it to reflect what us realists hear from you Scott fan boys.

When we win
- Re-sign Chris Scott
- Chris Scott is a great coach
- Simon Lloyd's had no impact
- We'll win the flag
- *told you so's/gloating/arrogance*

When we lose

- Flu/gastro went through the team
- It's the players responsibility
- Umpires are screwing us
- Injuries are hurting us
- It's never Chris Scott's fault

Also i base this on nothing other than a gut feel... but something isn't right
Blokes aren't helping each other, heads are down... they look like they don't want to be there

I have no idea what is going on or what is causing it... or if I am even just seeing something that isn't there...

My ole man was saying the same thing, last year.:D

Who knows, maybe we were blessed in the 07 to 11 years that when the sum of all parts are not working that is the impression given.

Serious question.

Is this an in vogue term somewhere at the moment ?

Perfectly said, quite coincidently we've recruited to win the flag in the last two years of Scott's contract.

This year and next at absolute best are our chances, after that we'll fall away drastically and GWS, The Bulldogs, Melbourne, Stkilda, and Collingwood at the very least will be far better than us.

Well, that was a record for this thread, nearly 2.5 pages in a row of reasonably sensible comment.

All come to a shuddering halt now, unfortunately.
