Am I the only one who is slightly disturbed about the evolution of this threads title?

Named at CHF

Didn't know lustful was word. Learn something new every day.

Boyd will be primed for the business end of the yr after Rough and Red have done the dog work

If he doesn't kick 9 goals and take 12 grabs and dominate the ruck against what is just a seaside team like Willy he is a total WASTE of $$$ and we should send him to u16s to learn him footy better

If Tom is not on big coin this year, who is?

I spoke to Boyd at the Club launch this year. He said he has bought a house in South Melbourne and when asked said he loves being back in Melbourne. He didn't say 'club' which got me a teensy bit worried.

I think if he walked at the end of his contract he would become one of the most hated AFL players ever.

Why? I'm not sure of that romanticism anymore. Does loyalty exist like that in young footballers nowadays? They'll only have this profession for a decade or so. I only really trust father sons in that way, and many on this forum were seriously supporting trading Hunter. Where is our loyalty as a fanbase?

I hear what you are saying, but He walked on GWS for money and to return to Melbourne for the biggest contract offered to a young player. If he walks again what would it be for?

There are so many factors in a decision though DRB. Limited opportunity at GWS may also have been a factor in Boyd's decision as well as a return to Melbourne (friends and family) as well as the money. Bev (I think) has indicated that he thinks 4-5 years in the one job is enough. Could a player also think that way? I think some could. A regular change of environment suits some people.
I limit loyalty to supporters and the club and I often think this whole expected loyalty angle from players is over played. They are paid professionals and the club is their working environment. It's up to the club to provide the best working environment possible for a) the players to flourish while they are there so both they and the club are successful and b) give them a reason to stay, want to stay, or at least not to leave.
Supporters stay with the club (loyalty) win, lose or draw regardless of what player is on the list regardless of their (the players) motivation for being there which may not always be transparent. All I ask of a player is that they practise kaizen and do their best while they play in our colours and if they eventually leave, they leave, notwithstanding the inevitable disappointment if a good one goes.
As for Boyd himself, I'm willing to concede 2 years of his 7 year contract to development. Of the remaining 5 years, a prelim and 4 grand finals (2 flags) with him as a central figure in the forward set up is a good return. More is a bonus. If he wants to leave after that I'm not bothered as he will have done his job.

Something's amiss with this board when our Boyd thread is up to 131 pages but our Bont thread (remember him? ranked #5 in the AFL at age 20) is only up to 54 pages.

There's nothing to argue and bicker about with Bonti, we all love him.
Boyd on the other hand...
