Writing Boyd off is as silly as the idiots that bag Paddy IMO.

We haven't invested 7 million on a bloke that's shown nothing at the top level yet.

Fwiw I reckon he'll be a very good player longterm. Shows glimpse & thats all you are looking for in most big kids. When he puts it altogether he'll be very good.

Well even 850 would have gotten him to sign, I just think there is something else to it. Anyone know what his old man does for a crust?

Don't know. I just reckon the Dogs had the blinkers on & wanted to get one over GWS. Boyd the opportunist/Bradbury.

Gws won that deal easily Imo.
If Marchbank leaves at years end (highly likely) & Griffen can't resolve his back issues, then I believe the Dogs win that deal regardless as Boyd still has another 5 years to prove his worth, while the other 2 may be retired & at a different club

The ripple effects may put it into the dogs favor but as its stands Imo gws win the trade.

Some ppl forget the dogs were (not sure if they still are) paying a % of griffins wage.

sorry, i wasnt very clear. was the blues offer and our offer, that was rumoured, at 7 years as well?

I'm pretty sure a few media outlets ran with the Blues making an offer but not us. As far as I can remember. Possibly bigfooty made up bull shite.

Not writing off Boyd at all, it is the huge money offered over such a long period.
Shouldnt be compared to Paddy. Been in yhe system two more years and Psddy has shown more at this point.
I dont think Sydney paid that much for Buddy. Certainty not Tippett.
Will Boyd be a million $ player and what damage has it done to the Bulldogs ability to entice a Hurley type player?

Redpath looks a better prospect currently. Still 6.5 years to show his worth.

I think it is actually 850 per year. A quick google search of "Tom Boyd" and the first article that comes up has a headline saying '$6m Investment Tom Boyd blahblahblah'

6mill/7years = 857k per year

Lol.

Makes him sound like a bond. What's the coupon rate? What's the market yield? Who's the issuer? Is there a secondary market?

*sorry, I'm practicing for my Finance exam and struggling atm. Who'd have thought Tom Bloody Boyd would help?*

i def re-call the same rumours that us and the blues were into him, but i never heard the details of the offer

i vaguely recall that when the dogs offer came out, we inquired and then said the offer was too big for us to match

It will be interesting to see how Ess and Freo go in terms of their first picks. You'd think they both need talls - Marshall, Battle and the Bloke from WA Strndica (spelling??) have been touted as early picks. Or maybe Ess will go for Brodie ? In Freo's case they might consider SPS as he is a WA boy but Freo especially need talls and key forwards in particular so unlikely for mine.

Brisbane need quality full stop but in Hipwood and Schache they have key forwards/talls. They could do with another key defender but not for their first I wouldn't think. Will they have to use their pick on Allison who looks a likely type?

GC will likely have to use their early pick on Bowes but there will be some trade action before that with them so likely their picks will change...

However if we finish above both Richmond and Collingwood there is no way we get Brodie or McCluggage UNLESS other players start to push up the draft order with performances over the coming months.

So besides Venables who else would fit the bill? I'm talking elite kicking classy mids....silky skills etc

I reckon Freo might move their early pick (currently #2) to GWS for McCarthy and one of GWS' 1st round picks (not the Collingwood one as that looks like being top 5).

Yes agreed that could happen. You have to wonder on McCarthy and where he's at. See for mine I wouldn't do it with his current issues. Its a business and you're introducing unneccessary risk by taking McCarthy as opposed to say a young key forward without Cam's issues.

On the flip side you would get a 2 for one however they would have to do their due diligence on McCarthy, (remember they also have Harley Bennell who has a whole different set of problems).

You know Collingwoods first pick goes to gws right?? As part of the treloar deal? Does that change your thinking at all?

See, given our massive salary cap room, I'm pretty sure we COULD have matched that. We just didn't want to. Because it was really desperate and stupid stuff.

I'd argue his coupon rate is greater than the market yield. And the face value is enormous ;)

Good call - it gets a bit better as I think we'll finish above the Pies for sure. Richmond will be the interesting one - think they might spoil the party. Brisbane might as well

Ess - could be Brodie but you'd think a tall
Bri - not sure as they need a lot
Freo - got to be a tall
GC - Bowes
Coll (GWS) - Academy pick
Rich - Brodie/McCluggage?
St K - ???

Richmond may be one club that could pull the trigger early on Ainsworth, as they've been desperate for quality small forward options for years now and while they got Rioli last year, they may want another one to go with him. On the other hand, they are one club that would definitely make sense for Prestia, so it wouldn't surprise me if they traded their first for him. Ditto Carlton, another club who needs him much more than Melbourne do.

There's probably a fair chance that Gold Coast will have two picks before our first, if we keep it.
