Find Some Pace in the Midfield We'll be a much better team next season. Hopefully we can get some luck with the health of a younger players next season. A Full Year of Wood,Garner,Anderson,McDonald would be fantastic. Wood and McDonald are potential stars.

Mountford & Fordham are listed as fast with good endurance. Combine them with some similar players this draft. Work them into the side as Wells is rested.

This is still basically without any new players (minus Clarke), so all the doom and gloom isnt as accurate as people might suggest. If we also snag a few FA or good trades, we still have depth in our high end draft picks, such as McKay, Durdin, Hibberd with another preseason under their belts, as well as potentially Black, Mountford, Wagner, Turner, EVW, & Nielson

I doubt very much with what has happened this week that a few youngsters/2nd teir players wont be pushing hard for selection. This looks like a 2016 best with four injuries.

It's all relative... Not looking bad on paper to a North fan vs the reality of that side v another is completely different.

R1 2017 looks pretty damn good to me, I think the doom and gloom is massively overstated however we will clearly be substantially more vulnerable in the event of an injury run even remotely like this year. If we manage to avoid this to our prime movers that were down this year such as Goldy, Cunnington, Higgins, McDonald, Hansen, Turner, Garner, Wright & Jacobs the core will be very solid even leaving aside new additions and improvement from the already drafted next batch. I think finals is very achievable with our squad with the caveat that we are more vulnerable to injury to the senior core.

I completely agree - although..........

Only IF..... we get those big balls we've just shown and make them HUGE. Trade Swallow and pick for O'Meara or a mid of his ilk. So for the sake of the squad ill name him but could be anyone.

This isnt addressed at you in particular, just thought id ramble a little

Now i know its harsh on Swallow, but - its the only logical choice to get it done and we badly need cut slugs for pace. IMHO it doesnt matter what we do elsewhere if we have an engine room that includes Swallow and Cunners its too damn slow. We'll get cut up time and time again as it'll only get worse. Bulldogs, Saints, Dees, Pies, Blues and likely Port will only improve.

Quicker mids with more polish not only means we 'should' score more it means we're scored against less on rebounds or that out the back ball. We all know the effect this group has on a teams forward and defensive structures. Using JZ forward more means we should go smaller - he's a marking player, heck even Thomas is. Just have Goldie or Daw (if playing) drift down from time to time. So - thats why Waite at CHB, he has the attributes required for it and tbh im sick of Thompson's game being based around playing Twister with his opponent on the ground. So Waite or Thompson, or youngster - whoever is in best form. With Waite on the list and id keep Black - we have back up if the structure isnt working or a tall is injured.

Id be looking at something like

For the doomsayers - just how many games against the top 8 teams did any of the 4 play above standard games? Im betting theres FAR more substandard games than above.

Now the team listed above has a faster more dynamic midfield, which feeds the ball in faster to the forwards -- meaning we dont need 3 giants. A faster more dynamic forward structure which should apply more defense pressure. Together with the mids they should stop more of those out the back/ fast rebound goals that slaughter us time and time again. Defense is also much stronger than what we've had for most of the year, perhaps not faster - but much surer skills and composure on the way out with a faster mid group helping out. All this makes it harder to keep Atley in check, so id expect to see more rebound runs from him with such a team.

My main point is to highlight with ONE main change to the mids and replacements we already have for the 4 retiring players we're without doubt a BETTER side than this year. Not saying we'll make the 8 because other teams are getting better, but we'll definitely beat more top 8 teams than this year.

I look at most of these teams that people are coming up with and think that a pretty major rebuild is needed. The midfield still looks static and slow which is one of our biggest issues.
