Back to the drawing board for me. This technicality is what will see us go from what I had to having Conca and Williams instead!

That and the technicality that the trade pick 22 to the Hawks for Hill but still use it to pick up the skinny HBFer from Victoria in the draft.

The 1999 pick 5 compensation pick from Melbourne was because Melbourne breached the salary cap by big way in luring White over.

FWIW I think Hogan and Fyfe are just in the same position - advised by their managers to hang out for the best possible deal from their club as they approach free agency next year. Not in their financial interests to commit to staying until then, too disruptive to the club to say you want to leave when your contract runs out because that is still a year away. Freo could not offer enough to get Hogan this year even if he wants out.

From memory, Joe Gutnick, the MFC President at the time said along the lines of "Jeff White wants to play for MFC and we have 1st pick in the draft so basically FFC are going to take whatever we offer and there will be no negotiations" I can't recall the exact details of the trade that ended up taking place but Joe's attitude didn't go down well with many with the exception of perhaps the Melbourne faithful.

A few supporters being disrespectful here is nothing compared with the President of an AFL club making a p**k of himself just because his club holds a strong hand in an upcoming trade discussion. Most Freo supporters will show respect to anyone who posts here in a sensible manner but there will be no sympathy if this ends badly for your club.
