You can't take Ahern for a year then delist. Unethical.

Exactly and I doubt it would create a good culture long term within their club if players get badly injured then get traded out straight away .
Unless the player requests a trade out no way their trading him .

At this rate with omeara Ahern morabito and any other injured player available so we can get a discount on them on our list our medical staff are going to be busy .
Seriously!

TG was a massive wrap for Ahren in his draft year. Feel sorry for the kid especially if its true same knee.

Still young and has plenty of time on his hands.....

Worked out ok for Sumner......[emoji106]

I mean who really wants to trade someone into the club who won't play for the year and them pay them $300,000+ to ride bikes and swim laps and then hope like hell they never get injured again

I think I heard today that Steele has injured his foot and will miss the rest of the season.

Yep also heard that. Now less likely to go Saints after cooling off Omeara cos of injury issues and the nightmare experience with Freeman.

Back in the picture now for us? Fits our requirements perfectly - huge upside, stars in the seconds, under injury cloud and was a mad blues supporter growing up.

Ok, I made that last one up.

Someone who wants Marchbank for pick 23 not pick 5

none thanks. move on

hrovat lyons mcstay marchbank would be better targets
yes Hrovat and Marchbank... what would we have to give up for Hrovat? rumour last year was GC offered 2 second rounders and dogs knocked it back

... And if Marchbank nominates us we wouldn't need to give up pick 5.

In case you missed what I said earlier
With the amount of serious injuries Marchbank has had in his short career, we would be stupid to pay anything more than pick 23 for him alone.

You do realise we need to take on a few "dud deals" on from GWS in order to get the players we want.

Plowman was worth a hell of a lot more than pick 28, but we got a discount taking Sumner, Lamb and Phillips.

If taking Ahern reduces what GWS are willing to accept for Marchbank, then IMO that is a good result, plus if he comes good he is a former top 10 pick.
I suspect GWS needed to free up a list spot last year and felt Sumner will not be the same player they drafted after his navicular injury, so they packaged him in GWS4 deal at reduced cost to us. Pickett with his Lisfranc injury or Ahern with his ACL packaged in with Marchbank may allow us to pick up Marchbank for our 2nd rounder instead of the mid 1st rounder he is probably worth. We can afford to allow an extra list spot to be taken by an injured player for 12 months if it allows us to get high end talent on our list for less than market value.

Yes this is what I think.

Taking a dud player essentially is half the battle won for GWS to add another (highly rated) player, both in terms of list spots availability and salary cap.

Carlton will argue as good a prospect as Marchbank is, he has only played a handful of games and has a serious shoulder injury, so his value drops from 6 to 15ish. Then they will argue by helping GWS with Stewart, for example, the value of the pick we hand over for Marchbank should drop further. Another 8 spots to 23 could well be argued as fair and reasonable.

Taking Ahern doesn't magically reduce Marchbank's value by 15 picks.

If we wanted Marchbank by himself, the value should probably sit around Pick 15-20, nowhere near Pick 5. No reason we can't do a deal with another club to get us a late first to trade on to GWS.

Or as I said earlier, we just ask for someone else. Or another pick.

There are plenty of ways for us to get a good deal on Marchbank without taking on a player who'll spend the year doing rehab.

Besides, it would be extremely poor form for us to take Ahern on for 12 months with the intention of delisting him at the end of that period. He's a 20-year-old kid who deserves to be treated with more respect than that.
