I agree and I think they are condemning themselves to mediocrity for a long time. Scott is looking at his brother at Geelong and thinking he can do the same thing at North, problem is they don't have Selwood, Taylor, Lonergan etc. and they won't be able to get a Dangerfield. When the AFL put the 22 and under squad of the best 40 young players, North didn't have a single player. I would hate to be a North supporter right now, I don't know what is going through their heads.

They will be thinking we have played in the last 2 prelims and going into a finals series, which is a sh1te load better than most teams in the comp..

Which I think benefits us should North want Tuohy as people are suggesting here and we can jag their 2017 first rounder for him.

The only problem I see with the scenario there is that we're trading out what will, probably, be a top 5 pick (maybe top 2-3, maybe even pick 1 if we have a shocker), then trading in unknown quantities that could be better or worse than we hope for. I'll give a breakdown, leaving out the later picks that won't change.

Currently:
2016 Pick 5, 23
2017 Pick 3, 21

Trade the first rounders for 4 and 6.
Trade Tuohy for Sydney's future first (~16-18).
Trade Kreuzer and future 3rd for WB's future first (~14-16)

End up with:
2016 Pick 4, 6
2017 Pick 14-16, 16-18

Wouldn't we be better off trading Tuohy for a 2016 first rounder, Kreuzer + future third for a 2017 first rounder?

Then go to the draft with:
2016 Pick 5, 17
2017 Pick 1-4, 14-16

We get a spread of talent over a couple of years, and don't trade ourselves well down in the 2017 draft, potentially missing out on a standout player who comes to light between now and the 2017 draft.

This probably belongs in the "snark" thread, but The first year I coached my son, he did his ACL. After 12 months of rehab, he returned to the team.
He went from being a contested ball animal to not being able to get near it. His confidence in the knee and his ability was shot.
I became impatient as a coach and as a father. Dropped him back to the twos, Pushed him and pushed him. I didn't understand what he was going through. At one half time address I said to him, in front of the entire side, "if you're averse to physical contact, go home and buy a tennis racket..."
It was disgraceful behaviour by me as a coach and Dad. And I regret it terribly. That's why I hate ACL injuries so much.
The following year, he went on to win our B&F in a premiership year. But if I had my time again, I'd do things very differently.

I meant that I don't know what is going through their administrators heads. They thought they were a shot and it didn't come off for them, good on them for trying, you have to go for it if you think you are a shot at a premiership (even though most of us disagreed with that assessment).

But looking forward they just look all over the shop, they get rid of a player like Boomer but look like keeping Waite among other older guys and then bringing in more older mature players???? They have accepted they won't win it with the current group but don't appear willing to invest heavily enough in youth.

Yep.. I'm having my umpteenth clean out in November. My surgeon said it will be the last before my arthritis ridden knee is replaced within 2 years. Im 47.. truly sucks.

Trustworthy source, or just random speculation?

Think the first one could well come to pass - GC have too many picks to use and have stated they want established players to fill out the list. Pick 21/22 is probably overs for those two guys, but those picks don't hold as much value for GC as they do anyone else.

The second...I dunno, I don't buy it. As good as Marchbank could be, I just don't see us giving up a shot at a gun midfielder for yet another intercept defender as well as a pick in the late teens and a running player with a foot injury. Maybe if we have plans to use the late first to buy back into the top 10 somehow...?

Interesting either way.

The Lions would probably give up a second rounder for him, this years or 2017's second rounder. They are desperate for experienced defenders to guide their young KPD's, especially since sauce Merritt retired. We end up with something decent for a pretty average player. I call it a win win situation for both clubs.

This is pretty much what I have expected and wanted.
Late first and two early seconds = Clarke, Gallucci and Simpkin with any luck, although the romantic in me wouldn't mind Kerr.
Would push for Barrett to be added to Marchbank and Pickett for some mature(ish) midfield depth (although SOS would have the
inside info if an upgrade on Whiley)

Have to agree, Rowe is essentially worthless in my eyes. Can find plenty of equivalents in the state league who prob have more scope. If he was on the trade market lucky to get a top 50 pick.

From this morning:-

Happy to keep players like white, armfield and Rowe for now. Good work ethic, great character and role models but what will show our list is getting stronger with depth/talent is these guys starting to not get a game and then eventually be delisted. We will be on track if that is within the next 2 years.
