They traded last years first for Bennell. They can't trade this years (3rd) pick and next seasons first round pick.
They can trade it but they must get one back for next years draft, they can trade back into the first round next trade period.

I like Weller but jesus we would be back to having a forward line with bugger all targets again if we were to trade Hogan for Weller and a first rounder. Weid isnt near ready to carry the load, Pedo cant do it either and Watts plays best as a second fiddle. My gawd its a scary thought having no Hogan, Let us not mention his name but CD might even get another contract, lord help me.

Goal kicking warts and all, the more i think about this the more he is worth. We would need to get a good/ready to contribute now KPF in with any trade for him IMO, if there needs to be a third club involved in any such deal so be it.

Goody confirmed the Hibberd interest today.

Still expecting Hibberd for 26 followed by shutting up shop. Maybe a Barlow move but who knows how that'd work.

With Essendon looking at other deals like Hartlett I can see the Hibberd deal to get out of the way quick. Gives them another pick to play with.

What this guy said. Fyfe is better, but Hogan is more important to us (probably would be to Freo as well). Only need to cast your internal peepers back to 2014 when Dawes topped the cake tin for the year with 20 sausage rolls to see how miserable our forward line can get. Watts plays best as a third fiddle, too - better with Pedo and Hogan getting the attention. I don't particularly want to go back to watching us launch the ball into the 50 to a bloke with concrete hands and the turning circle of a glacier or equally to some lanky 16 year old grommet with spina bifida. Our main avenue to goal would be clearing the 50 and launching bomb after bomb into space for El Jeffy to run on to, should he feel so inclined. No thanks.

I give Hogan more chance of winning us a flag than I do Fyfe.

You can win a flag without a key forward you realize? Fyfe is arguably the best player in the game, of course he is more of a chance than Hogan.

Agree Hogan is worth more than Fyfe.. as crazy as that sounds but it's that bloody hard to find great key forwards..

Hogan's not potential. Moore is potential. Boyd is potential. Wiedeman is potential.

Hogan is a 21yo 40 goal a year forward.

And? I'm not denying he is well ahead of where KPFs normally are but as I said before Fyfe is arguably the best player in the game, Hogan isn't in the top half a dozen in his position.

Great seeing how many flags Fyfe has won for Freo in the past four years. Hogan had a major form slump towards the end of the season and kicked 3 goals in his last 6 games but before that he was top 5 in the Coleman, no number 1 key forward in their second year has even come close to that in the past couple of decades except Cameron in 2013. Buddy kicked about as many goals in his second year (2006) as Hogan did this year, and Hawthorn were in a similar position to us. Then he went on to kick 70+ in his third year and 100+ in his fourth. If we improve between 2016 and 2017 as much as Hawthorn do there's every chance Hogan could kick 70+ and win the Coleman. Even if that's just potential I'll take that risk over Fyfe with no exposed form in 2016.

Interesting article on AFL.com.au about the players from each club who may be looking for opportunities elsewhere.

One name who caught my eye was GWS' Jake Barrett: "Barrett is a prolific ball-winner at NEAFL level and averaged 29 possessions per game this season, and was close to best on ground with 32 touches and two goals in the Giants' winning reserves Grand Final. At just 20 years of age he might be a handy pick up for a club looking to add to its midfield depth."

His NEAFL numbers this year are really impressive while a quote from Luke Power in this article on Barrett also caught my eye: ""He's got speed and endurance, which is a pretty important combination. You have players who have one or the other but the really good players have both."

Sounds like he's a well-rounded midfielder who's got a decent set of attributes. If we can get him for nothing or minimal outlay, he could be worth a shot.

IanW - any thoughts on Barrett's ability to become a genuine AFL-standard midfielder, and is he likely to leave the Giants?

I've seen him at NEAFL level, I'm a fan.

Would rank him significantly higher than Hoskin-Elliot for example.

Ian may disagree but from what I have read from GWS and Brisbane supporters is than 30 in the NEAFL is only worth 20 at VFL level in their opinion?

He's a name various people have kicked around as a potential move.

Im pretty darn sure he wont be 'minimal outlay', as to move from a club in it's premiership window you'll need to offer cap room as well as playing time - if he was just offered 2 year deal at $150k a year, he'd probably stay and try and fight his way into the Giants side, so I'd be offering him enough to buy a house.

And he isnt just on your radar as a potentially pretty good player, so you'd need to find the trade currency GWS wants, which tends to be cap room and future picks :)

NT Thunder and Swans reserves are quality sides. The others can be very thin if they have injuries, which GC and Brizzy have had a lot of.

Cheers.

Do you rate him? Any player comparisons?

I'd imagine we'd be happy to offer him a reasonable deal, and would be happy to trade a future pick if we rate him enough. If so, what's your value of him? A future third? Future second?

Young Tom Scully.

Personally, I'd prefer to keep him - how much are you proposing Melbourne offer the kid in personal terms ?

A million a year and we'll find his dad a cushy job.

I've no idea what $$$s we'd be prepared to offer him to be honest - not my area of expertise. I'd imagine we'd be able to pay him a touch over the odds, and more than GWS would be able to pay him with so many guns to look after up there.
