It's in their Jaxon thread, where he indicates that Billings, Longer and Eli would not be anywhere near enough to land Fyfe and Weller, and alternatively, where Melbourne would never accept Billings and 10 for Hogan (in a three way deal).
So he knows what 2 other clubs recruiting departments would and would not accept for their players? Yeh....sounds believable....

Now hang on, you can't use T Boyd as an example. We all agree he was damn good yesterday but he was not a big name and established star when recruited and one great game does not yet make him a star. Every man and his dog were horrified at his pay check, in the end the dogs were unbelievably lucky that h came good at the right time and good luck to them. It is still going to hamstring their acquisition of new players...but now they probably don't give a damn.
They still gave up their captain and pick 6 as well as a million a year and managed to win a flag.

Emotive saying Acres could end up like Fyffe. Win a brownlow and be best player in the AFL. Most unlikely. So you don't think we can win a flag before 2024?

I rate Acres, can see him being an AA quality player. Fyfe would stuff our salary cap. The Dogs actually don't have many superstar players that would attract big money externally and have a spread of very good instead. Their cap is a bit different to ours.

No he us far from a big name but I gather you don't want a big name because of the salary and not because he is just a big name. Boyd is taking a huge salary so to me its all the same.

That's what Jaxon said on SS.

...
I am not sure what you mean. Did you mean this?

Billings is a long way short of the potential he showed as a junior.

If so then I think most fans will agree with that. I also think that is what Jaxons thinks rather that him sourcing it as what the club thinks.

Where opinions probably vary is on how much Billings can still improve. Some think that injury and fitness are holding him back and that when he gets fully fit that we will see more.

Others have rumoured "attitude" problems.

I may have missed it but I don't think Jaxons has posted his thoughts on wat is holding Billings back, and also whether he is likelyto still rach that early potential.

As I said we wont get Fyffe but I reckon if offered you must take the best player in the AFL

No, their captain wanted to go actually. I admitted it was ballsy, and in hindsight was a bloody amazing trade for yesterday alone, especially as Boyd wasn't a star. My point stands about pinning your hopes on a big star to win you you the whole damn thing.

Got a PM today that explained a lot about Billings.
Hint. Think Stringer.

They are paying Boyd a million a year. It hasn't effected them at all. I'd be happy to give up a bit more for the best player in the AFL. No point having all this room in the cap if we aren't going to use it.

Yes their captain wanted out, they could have gotten a top ten pick for him and some so they basically gave us two top ten picks for Boyd and a lot of cash and they won a flag.

Cats couldn't go the whole way, but let's be fair, they were a much better team with him in it. The fact they came from outside the 8 to play in a prelim proves that.

The salary is small part of it, but not the entirety.
We've had Roo, Plugger etc etc, there's all the other names I've mentioned previously and it just seems to me that a " messiah" just doesn't seem to work as well as a team of great players maybe a rung below.
Hell, I don't know any more than anyone else on here, but looking at history, both ours and other clubs, the superstars often haven't got their teams over the line.
It's a great debate topic and I bet we could find teams for and against on this page :)

For those with inside knowledge: what are the odds we actually get the match winner we picked up with the #3 pick?

Who's us? ( edit...assume a typo for GWS)

Agree re Danger, of course he was a huge addition to the side. All I'm saying is a superstar does not guarantee a flag as we all know and we need to think very carefully before we give away players who could be a rung below but still very very good players on a team on a decision like this.
It's probably a moot point anyway bc I can't see Fyfe coming to us.

Doesn't seem like a figjam if that's the implication, seems the opposite really

Been playing on a busted shoulder needing off season surgery I think.

Hold onto the blue chip shares, they'll be a winner. Just don't expect to cash in overnight.
