If we end up with Marchbank, Steele and then Stewart and PIckett as steak knives, I can live with that. I trust that SOS knows what Marchbank and Steele are capable of. It's a somewhat unique position we're in with our list manager having seen these blokes up close in an AFL environment

I'd be ecstatic with Marchbank, Steele, Stewart and Pickett.

2 guys picked around pick 5 anyway 2 years ago and Steele/Stewart were early 20's picks and shown promise, especially Steele.

4 talented young guys for 1 pick.

And as you said, SOS would know them well and wouldnt make the same mistake Rogers did with Jaksch/Whiley etc.

I'm not sure if it is the way I am reading it but In relation to barass07 rumour, are we trading our first and players to GWS or are we trading our first for GWS players?

Lol mate how is what we get in return irrelevant.

So if we were getting Marchbank, Shiel and Steele for pick 5 you would still call it a disgrace because you think the kid we draft would be better?
if we got Shiel, i'd have no pants left without holes

I'm not keen on trading pick 5, probably because of the Jaksch/Boekhorst trade that still haunts us. But if Marchbank alone lives up to the potential of his high draft selection, the deal will be a win. And its almost certain that we will be getting other players with the pick. We need to understand that we have much better recruitment and coaching staff then when we did the Jaksch trade, and I have full faith that Bolts will get the most out of all the players we pick up. I'm really hoping the trade also includes one of Steele, WHE, or Tomlinson, with some steak knives (stewart etc).

Hope SOS knows what he is doing, would hate to lose #5, a pick which in recent years has netted the likes of De Goey, Stringer, Parrish etc for some generic list fillers or talented but permanently broken lost-talents, even if we get 3 or 4 of them for a single pick. I would prefer quality over quantity but I guess we trust in SOS.

If SOS pulls that off......mmmmmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

To me, it's effectively 3 late first rounders and Stewart for 5.

Definitely a dream scenario, but if GWS are certain they can nab pick 1 by on trading 5 and 7 to Essendon..who knows!

People need to give this time to play out. Would you like Ben Ainsworth or would you like Jack Scrimshaw, Oliver Florent, Griffin Logue and Patrick Kerr?!? God bless Ainsworth, who will be a gun, but this draft is as deep as we've seen in a long time. Some projectionists have Hamish Brayshaw available in the 70's. Esava Ratugolea might go as a rookie. Let's wait 'til the end of trade week before we round up all the witches and burn them.

1981 posted in the Bluemour thread that he had heard the Gibbs + 24 for 13 + Lyons from a senior foot dept person before the story broke on the radio/web, so could confirm the rumour is legitimate.

I can confirm 1981 PM'd me the rumour before it broke, so to misquote ZZ Top, it's got legs...

Adelaide are supplying the lube, I'd assume?

Giving up pick 5 for multiple GWS players is exactly the right move.

Depth of talent is what gets you to the top, we already have the future best player in the comp, so surrounding him with as much A grade talent is the fast track to success.

A spudless starting 22 is what we should be aiming for, not superstars.

Which future best player is that

Dont think we should entertain WHE...has talent but injury prone and flaky attitude wise. The kind of player we have been trying to rid ourselves of with Menzel, Yarran and Dre.

If we are trading 5, I would want Marchbank, Steele and a combination of WHE, McKenna, Pickett or Ahern. If Stewart was dominating the NEAFL, I would want him but he is not. So GWS can keep him.

Still dont get how people can say these things...

Talking up pick 5 like it's 100% going to land us an elite superstar, while deriding someone like Marchbank, who was pick 6 only 2 years ago, as a 'list filler' or 'average player'.

People still seem offended about the Jaksch/Whiley/Pick 19 trade without taking into account we have SOS and Bolts now in charge...and that SOS was the one who was with GWS at the time and contributed to us getting swindled...but now he's on our team.

Not to mention that fact that we'll be near the pointy end of the draft for at least the next year. Still have chances to land top end talent but would be foolish not to strike while the GWS iron is hot
