I read this over on Nicks. The AFL is scrapping its Free Match Replays.

I think this is a very short sighted move. Presumably the AFL wants to push everyone to paid mediums. But how do you expect to grow the sport without easy and free access to games?

This is a kick in the teeth to interstate, overseas, and die hard fans interested in catching the game.

If true, to the AFL I stick my middle finger up!

I'm not too fussed about that, being overseas for most of the season it's been easy to find the replays on YouTube pretty much straight after the games are done and they stay up for ages.

The main thing I want to know is whether they're actually going to improve their paid service in terms of streaming the games live. The fact that I can't stream it on my computer is crap, but it's really annoying that the highest quality I can get on an iPad or phone is around 480p and the layout hasn't improved or changed in the last few years! One thing that bugs me is that when the stream stalls there isn't a refresh button, so you have to exit the stream then re-enter and wait for it to load. (This is in regards to the Australian service not the overseas pass)

Sorry for the mini rant but the quality of the live service is just appalling.

Disappointing if true and another money hungry corporate grab. We only have 8 games that aren't shown on channel 7, but it's no coincidence that 4 of our 5 interstate games are exclusive to fox. This means that Melbourne based supporters are forced to get fox (increasing tv rights) or pay the AFL directly for a replay.

SA, WA, Qld and NSW teams have all their games shown free to air (live or delayed) in their local markets; I don't think it's too much to ask that Victorian teams have a free legal option to watch interstate games on delay.

AFL is just about making Money and that is all:mad:

AFl doing their best to drive people away as per usual. They don't seem to realize that some supporters cant afford pay tv and club membership
so are going to lose both in the long run.

Well this sucks. The Smart replay has been my saviour for years now. I'm pretty good at avoiding updates if I know I'm gonna miss the game live (or if it's not being played on TV here in Brisbane), so generally happy to wait 12 hours and watch it on my MacBook in bed with a packet of Oreos.

Ah well, I'll just go back to listening to the radio cast.

All the AFL cares about is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Not related to match replay but just had a bit of a do with the AFL.

Sent them two emails regarding my granddaughter's membership not arriving and wanted to buy six game seating today.
As I hadn't received a response (first one sent two weeks ago), rang them and expressed my frustration with all things AFL.

It seems because she was upgraded to full membership last year, she had somehow dropped off the automatic renewal:huh:.
I asked how this was so as I have been charged on my credit card (I pay for both of the G/kids). Glitch he said and apologised.

Anyway it all ended well as he then helped out by reserving seats for four of us, so M17, here we come.

And they expect this Sport to gain more exposure overseas? Yeah, good luck finding someone that's going to pay for online content of a sport they've never watched.

Majority of them would have NO IDEA what the AFL is
