Will he make it?I don't know, but for what it's worth and this is from a friend of a friend:) and passed on to me by some one I trust who said our Ryan possesses what some of us here refer to as a little bit of shit.I'm hoping that's good info.

We have not had a ruckman that had a bit of shit since Johnny Barnes, Darren Flannigan type days.

Mummy has it but that came out more after he left.

Otto was great - one of the best actually - but not high on the shit count...

We also took some measures - or should I say counter measures - to get him to us..

Worth the effort - hard to tell this early but clearly they saw something that made them do it...

Lol... Big football Geelong posters be like * clicks open thread. Checks height. Sees age... Instantly scrolls down to the reply section to write angry complaint*.

Being 25 years old seems to make you indubitably shit around here on this board. Poor bugger. At least let him play a game first

I took the bit of shit reference as a good thing - ala a bit of mongrel - rather than it meaning being shit.

Good part is none of us have a clue until we see him in action really.

By 'shit' they meant 'mongrel' or 'aggro' so that's a good thing...

Maybe not since Dam Bourke have we had someone who would be willing to do the nasty.

For Abbott , id hope that he has more the propensity to absorb skill than act like a no brain dill ....

25 going on 26 is a bit old to be a developing player though...

Perhaps ..although this new era is far more about smaller envelopes of time. Age of 25/26 is a good age for the body of a ruckman , and not having the history of the bangs may mean he is in very good nick. If he can develop his talents to a required skill level , being in the system full time , then 3-4 years might be a good outcome.
It all gets down to how close he is to a game , cause if we are looking at 2-3 years before he is ready..then your assessment is correct. Pods was 28 and played almost from day 1 , I think and he is probably a template for the ideal moneyball pick in this FA era.

The guy is basically a local footy prospect, he's played what 4 VFL games in his life? People thinking this guy is ready made blow my mind.

There is a whole range of requirements before being capable of playing AFL ... some kids come in from TAC and play , some players like Menegola go the long road. I have no idea what his test result were but there were reported as very good , and that puts him closer to games than a kid with footy background but not having a body that is AFL ready. Just how many VFL games did Blitz play? I doubt his skills are as good now as it may be if he stays in the system and keeps working on his skills..but he may well be closer to games than 4 VFL games would indicate.

I don't see him as ready made but with mature ruckmen it can be a rapid rise. Mike Pike was drafted in December 2008 in the rookie draft and debuted at AFL level less than six month later in May 2009. Forget playing VFL he was a rugby player.

True. But pike had the athletic conditioning of professional sport. As did Blicavs. pods had also been training professionally for years before he played. This guy doesn't even have vfl level fitness. He is a local club footballer.

An interesting and creative turn of phrase I must say.

He looks like a depth option at this stage.
I must admit I haven't seen him play, either at local level or VFL level, but reading this thread has left me optimistic that the next Polly Farmer currently resides on our list so I'll keep a close watch.

Still an unnecessary phrase..........

But agree with you. Depth. Until such time as we see a good sample size of him at AFL level it's premature to either praise or denigrate his ability excessively.

No Mumford had it before he left.

Unfortunately it is how this board and bigfooty work

The same people who would have questioned the pick then watch one video or read one article and do a complete 180.

It isn't isolated to the Cats board though... all are the same

There are some really ducking stupid people on this board. This includes anyone a) writing him off or b) predicting he'll make it.

Unless you've seen him play more than a handful of games - are privy to his testing results in details - which none of you muppets are or have - you don't know! So all these comments of predicting he'll make it or won't are just idiotic assumption that is based on no
Actual knowledge.

Welcome to the Geelong board.
Which posts seem delusional in here? I see frothing at the mouth at "delusional" and overly "optimistic" posts but I have just gone through every single post in this thread and I must need my eyes tested...
