Europe has a very serious problem on its hands. That much is obvious. More attacks seem inevitable. The challenge is ensuring aspects of Civil Society don't fall apart in many countries.

People can hand wring all they like but when you have cinema massacres and random trucks ploughing into civilians people living with this every day are bound to react and react badly.

I honestly don't know how this can be reeled back in. Unpopular as this is the Middle East is an absolute basket case. In many ways a backward culture permeates many countries. Why if we black banned South Africa due to Apartheid and North Korea can't we tell certain sections of the Middle East to sort their shit out?

Maybe Trump is right. If we need energy sources from somewhere may as well be Russia. I'm no fan of Putin but the Middle East is so unstable just doing business/been there invites risk. More countries soon will have to be more self reliant. Something Australia for example is very unprepared for.

According to the statistics gathered by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the 2011 intentional homicide rates per 100,000 people, excluding non-whites, in the US was almost indistinguishable from those of Iceland, France, Denmark, the UK and lower than the intentional homicide rate of Norway, Belgium and Finland.

I haven't seen the most current numbers but it would be unusual if they had doubled in the past 5 years or so.

Aren't there more African-American and Hispanic-Americans living in inner urban areas than distributed throughout the rural areas of the United States though? And aren't inner urban areas traditionally higher crime areas due to population density?

I think todays comments by Sonia Kruger have tipped me over the edge. I understand there are the possibility of radicals within the Muslim fraternity but this has got to far, the bashing of this religion is ludicrous. The consistent rhetoric around Muslims will not assist in fighting extremists from within and now may serve to only inspire those thinking of causing such harm to do so. IMO the only way we are going to counter extremists from any religion or general back ground is a collaborated approach that doesn't harbour hate and distain.
