We have done terribly, which I think was the outcome they wanted.

Wentz came out with a flyer in the first 5 weeks. Since then not so much. While his attempts and completion rates are up in the following 10 weeks and hitting an extra 20 yards with those attempts, he has only scored 6 touchdowns. Where he scored 7 in the first 5 weeks. Which would say he is not producing.

I would say that his OL is letting him down. He got sacked 7 times in the first 5, 24 times in the next ten.

To say that he is a bust though is way too early, he will need another season, just like the Browns front office.

Wentz is anything but a bust. He has the size, arm strength and mental toughness to be an elite quarterback. Exactly the kind of talent that a team bereft of it selects at #2.

Of course, the FO personnel would have to be able to accurately assess that and select him. He also is far superior a talent to any qb currently expected to make themself available in 2017.

See, the failure with analytics and those that wrap themselves up in stats is they don't tell you the whole story. Quote completion %, yards, etc... until you are blue in the face.

At the end of the day only one thing matters....can he play.

You see stats with Wentz...I see a guy that can make all the the throws and has the mental toughness to lead his team.

That's the great failure with numbers generation---numbers lie.

Another qb the Browns out thought themselves on led his team to 1 touchdown today. Just 1, the same as RG3. His stats would be underwhelming to you too.

However, his team won and with a victory next Sunday at home, they seal a division title.

This FO remains as unqualified, incompetent and moronic as they were last January.

Can give them the next 20 years and it won't change a thing.

There is a team with a future and hope in 2017..but it's not in Cleveland.
 
The other thing that sticks in my craw is this other line consistently trotted out:

"It was planned to lose" and/or its cousin "what did you expect"

If you plan to lose---you are by definition a loser and no one I want to be associated with in ANY line of work--ever.

It is neither novel nor genius to have the ability to fail repeatedly.

Quite literally we could find chimpanzees to accomplish what this FO has done.

That isn't having a plan...that is simply mailing it in.

Maybe some of you guys are okay with that..but as a guy that played on lots of teams over the years, it was never anything I cottoned to.

I damn sure confronted my teammates when I saw it up close and personal so I have zero issue speaking out on these guys either.

If you are in the sports business and your plan is not to do everything in your power to win the game in front of you. Find another line of work.

We have had 17 years of front office staff who didn't go on stats, but on looks and knowing which players had arms and size and everything that you say we are not looking at now. We were still 3-13 last year.

We have blown up more FO and coaching staff than I care to remember. They are doing something different but we need to let them do something different to see if it will work. You cannot do that in 1 season.

I am not defending the current FO to the hilt, I have got no idea if they will make a difference or not. I am just a fan who is backing up the team we have put together at the moment even if they are playing appalling football. Looking at the upside of good draft position in 2017. Also not getting too strung out about it because it is nothing that is in my control.

"Attacked" eh? Yes, I realize how very mean and unsavory a character I am.

In fact, I reckon' about the only thing I do on Big Footy is go around being negative and attacking. ;)

Why on the Adelaide board, alone, I am solely known for my negativity towards the team, its list management and draft decisions.

Tell you what mate...you feel free to post whatever you like whenever you like (by the way-- a right you have always had and would always have anyway) and I won't quote and/or post a response at all. That way you can't feel personally "attacked".
 
I don't care about the other boards. On the last page alone you posted along the lines of 'anyone who knows anything about football' has to have the same opinion on this as you. And pointed out how someone else 'has finally woke the F up'.

Just because you live there, it doesn't make you the be all and end all of Cleveland fans. I'm allowed to have a different opinion, have an ounce of faith and not need to 'wake the F up'.

But since you won't reply to this, I think we can leave it at that.

I think they are going in the right direction.
It is going to take time with the youngest list in the NFL.
I know it is not pretty to watch right now, but I'd rather be with the Browns than the 49ers, Jets, Bears, Chargers or Rams.

Now, coming off a 0-16 season we will have the prize NO.1 slot in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Here are our picks: as they stand today
Round 1: Pick No.1 & Pick No.10
Round 2: 33 & 47
Round 3: 65
Round 5: 129 & 158
Round 6: 160

Now interestingly, 49ers who will line up in slot 2 are desperate for QB.
There is a gun QB, DeShone Kizer out of Notre Dame, who will serve as nice bait for them to trade up.
Why would they want to move from 2 to 1? Well, we need a gun QB too don't we!? Or do we? Ahh, the beauty of doubt.
Will the Browns get their QB at 1 or will they give that up and ransack the 49ers for certainty to get their man?
We could move down to slot 2, still pick up Garrett, Allen, or a QB like Trubinsky and add another round 2 for 2017 or 2018 draft (or both) from the 9ers.

This is what analytics does...it works out the best long term smart deals. It keeps you in the game with plenty of ammo in the future, whilst putting together a team that is still quality. It doesn't get caught up in EMOTION :'( like our friend AmericanCrow (love his passion though).
 
All depends on whether the front office deems a QB is worthy of the number 1 pick, which I highly doubt. That seems to be their strategy going off last year and i personally like it. Take the best talent available instead of burning a pick in the top 10 based on hope and need.

Adding another defensive player to complement Jamie Collins would be nice. That'll be Garrett or Jonathan Allen if all goes to plan. Grabbing another LB at 10 and all of a sudden we look pretty dangerous with Ogbah improving every week.

When we work on the O line is a totally seperate issue.
 
Yeah I agree with this ^^^

You don't want to burn your first pick on a QB 'just coz'. You take best player. If someone wants to trade up for a QB, by all means. Once you identify your QB of the future, you pounce. I won't judge this Browns FO until they have identified their guy. If they nail that, along with all the picks they've acquired along the way, they could turn into something really bloody good.
