Also, "intelligence" is a broad term.

Is someone who can recite the works of Shakespeare "intelligent" if they can't fix a flat tire or cook themselves a meal?

Does someone who knows what reaction you get when you compound a proton and a futon have more "intelligence" than someone who can recondition a car engine?

I think Bill Binney is quite the rational human, and what's more far better qualified than almost all on this planet to comment on the 'allegations', he certainly would appear to have very, very grave doubts as to the credibility...of course you'll no doubt disagree and put your spin on it.

We’ve previously documented that the hacking evidence against Russia is extremely weak, and the new report on Russian hacking doesn’t say much.

Indeed – if Russia hacked the Democratic party emails (from the DNC and top Clinton aide John Podesta) – the NSA would have all of the records showing exactly who did it.

We asked Bill Binney what he thought of the new report.

Binney is the NSA executive who created the agency’s mass surveillance program for digital information, who served as the senior technical director within the agency, who managed six thousand NSA employees, the 36-year NSA veteran widely regarded as a “legend” within the agency and the NSA’s best-ever analyst and code-breaker, who mapped out the Soviet command-and-control structure before anyone else knew how, and so predicted Soviet invasions before they happened (“in the 1970s, he decrypted the Soviet Union’s command system, which provided the US and its allies with real-time surveillance of all Soviet troop movements and Russian atomic weapons”).

Binney is the real McCoy. As we noted in 2013, Binney has been interviewed by virtually all of the mainstream media, including CBS, ABC, CNN, New York Times, USA Today, Fox News, PBS and many others.

Binney tells Washington’s Blog:

I expected to see the IP’s or other signatures of APT’s 28/29 [the entities which the U.S. claims hacked the Democratic emails] and where they were located and how/when the data got transferred to them from DNC/HRC [i.e. Hillary Rodham Clinton]/etc. They seem to have been following APT 28/29 since at least 2015, so, where are they?

Further, once we see the data being transferred to them, when and how did they transfer that data to Wikileaks? This would be evidence of trying to influence our election by getting the truth of our corrupt system out.

And, as Edward Snowden said, once they have the IP’s and/or other signatures of 28/29 and DNC/HRC/etc., NSA would use Xkeyscore to help trace data passing across the network and show where it went. [Background.]

In addition, since Wikileaks is (and has been) a cast iron target for NSA/GCHQ/etc for a number of years there
should be no excuse for them missing data going to any one associated with Wikileaks.

Binney designed the NSA’s electronic surveillance system, so he would know.

Binney doesn't know how Wikileaks got the info. But Binney has zero access to confidential info anymore, so all of that article is just guesswork used to flesh out confirmation biases.

People referring to blogs as if they have the same authority as credible news sources is what got us to where we are, with gunmen going into pizza stores because they think they're fronts for Hillary's child prostitution rings.

I'd love to see a proton and futon compounded. ;)

And I probably do think a physicist is more intelligent than someone working in a garage. Doesn't mean the second doesn't have valuable skills, but that's not evidence of intelligence.

One of the reasons we are where we are politically is we have a system that relies on voters being able to make informed decisions.

One thing that education gives you is the ability to look at credible sources of information and draw assumptions from them. It allows you to consider evidence and facts, instead of relying on faith or feelings.

Nothing speaks of living in a time when intelligence isn't valued than the amount we discount expert opinions when they don't match what we want them to be. We don't care about truth or facts or research.

Unlike you I read a cross section of the Media even if I don't necessarily agree with their Political slant. Calling the Guardian's coverage "balanced" is probably the "pisstake" you'll have difficulty equalling in the year 2017.

You'd never read any left leaning commentary in any of the far right propaganda press.

You get it all the time in the Guardian, NY Times, Washington Post or any credible press.

In any event, I'll happily read the Fin Review or publications that have a right lean, just like I read the Guardian that leans left. I just want to know they're reliable publications who don't put their politics before facts.

His words are the NSA would know how the data got from the Hackers to Wikileaks.

He is probably right. The NSA haven't said what they know. He's assumed that them not saying is some hole in their logic. But the NSA hasn't publicly released all of their intelligence. And Binney is now just a member of the public so he doesn't know any more or less than anyone else.

As far as I can see, there's nothing of substance here, is there?

Binney doesn't have all the info and thinks it was a leak. The NSA and CIA have all the info and think it was a hack.

Until I hear credible evidence against it, I'll believe those that have the most information.

No, credible because they uphold journalistic values of research, and multiple sources and fact verification.

Credible for decades of principled journalism, and dozens of Pulitzer Prizes.

But it's mostly that first point that's important to me. Journalist ethics and prioritizing truth. That's all that really matters.

Trump is an attention seeking loudmouth & can't take seriously all the BS that he sprouts.

What will be relevant will be his actions & I doubt most of the things he has talked about will come true... like most politicians!

That's actually what I think as well.

He surrounding himself in his cabinet with billionaires because that's the circle he's comfortable in. Not sure how qualified they are to run a country but we'll find out, I guess.

Yes, he is already surrounding himself with people he is comfortable with, including his son in law. What will be relevant is how team trump run the government more than trump himself.

Imo, trump gets on well with Putin because they are both egomaniacs who are backslapping how awesome the other is. What happens if they have a falling out - that is when I will get worried.
