By the media, fans and former players. Why? Because telling people what you really think is overrated, unless it's Rog-

..nah I'll leave it at that.
If what you say was true why would he (Djokovic) be making $'s in advertising. He is respected for what he has achieved, same as Federer.

Great win from fed, turning up the heat on that break point at 1-1 broke Stan.

Dimitrov is playing the best out of anyone on tour at the moment but I think the occasion will get to him a little. Nadal in 4.

This tournament was a so free for Novak if his head had been in the right place over the past 6 months.
You mean Stan dumping a rally ball into the net was somehow Federer's doing?

Because he still has a lot of fans? Just outnumbered compared to Federer/Nadal fans. He may be respected for the tennis player he is, but he's not equally respected for what he does off the court - no matter good it is. Federer does a single good thing and he makes front page news on Herald Sun? Get what I'm saying?

Twist it around the other way, Federer smashes a ball away in frustration at the Hopman Cup, while Djokovic does virtually the same thing in Doha and is made out to be biggest flog known to man. Similarly, when he screams in the direction of his camp after missing a point, the media interprets it as "Djokovic scares ball kid" when it's nowhere near the truth.

If it's Fed vs Nadal, what are everyone's thoughts on the crowd preference? Nadal has a good support base from the neutrals and I reckon the crowd will be like parents watching their two children play off.

Might as well leave the crowd from Saturday night there then.

I wonder if that is enough but will leave it because I like all 3 of the players you have named, too bad we don't have any to compare in world tennis now.

Not going to twist anything, believe in 'tell it like it is'.

Jeez if 90% of the crowd was with Fed tonight I reckon about 95% will be with Rafa tomorrow. Every man and his dog wants this final to happen (other than a few cynical bastards on here [emoji13]) which is unfortunate for Dimitrov.

But will genuinely be the biggest build up to a match in the history of the world if it eventuates. Fingers crossed.

You're supposed to applaud significantly more quietly when a player double-faults away a break of serve. If Australian tennis watchers knew that, they'd be much less annoying and I might even be able to support Federer. As it is, I'm almost forced to support whoever this idiotic crowd is not supporting.

It happens everywhere. Most of it is silly etiquette anyway. Tennis needs to lighten up in this area. As long as people aren't actively trying to influence the match with noise during points or before serve, I really don't care. Can you imagine the same attitude in different sports? Geelong fans have to restrain themselves because they won via an Isaac Smith error? Come on.

When it comes to federer theres no cheering for the underdog. How was the support for zverev the other night? Almost non existant. There was pity cheering when he won some games. That's not right that's just disrespectful. As has been said slready treat the guy like a great tennis player not a demigod.

Federer is somewhat of an underdog himself considering he's doing things that haven't been done in over 40 years.

Another little thing is Federer hosted a charity night for his foundation in 2014 at Rod Laver Arena and charge people for the tickets. Channel 7 televised it.

In 2017 Djokovic hosted a charity night for his foundation at Margaret Court Arena. He didn't charge people for the tickets. Channel 7 didn't televise it.

Not sure how much control the players have over these events though.

That's it, will be a huge build up and a mighty contest. Biggest hype/TV ratings we have seen in a decade or so since Hewitt was in a final.

Depends really. If it is between Federer and Nadal, I for one, won't be watching. It will be interesting to see the ratings the next day.

I'm telling you like it is. Djokovic and his fans have been copping it since day one. Even copping it from the Brits now that Andy is number one.

Good thread. Would not read again. it is good to see that Federer does suffer from tall poppy syndrome. you can talk around it any way you want. It still is the heartbeat of this conversation.

I always avoid these threads whenever possible. Rafa, Fed Joker yada yadda blah blah. it always goes in a circle and it never changes. and for the record, i am a Stan fan more than any of these hacks.

I thought this was the year that the Williams' and Federer would finally fall. oh boy, how wrong was I. Serena has been untouchable so far while Venus/Fed showed today that they are still a quality opponent.

You're really obsessed with a lil guy on guy action. Hey, if that's your thing I'm not judging you

No it's more his commentary is giving me the you know what's this year!

I'm just happy this thing will be over soon.

Rafa being back the only good thing out of the whole tournament

It's been a long tournament lol

The women's side is interesting, none of the younger players stepped up instead we saw MLB, Serena and Venus dominate.

Venus and Serena put me to sleep although I do respect what they have done and appreciate it. Luckily my plan is to be plastered on Saturday and watch the Big Bash final at a BBQ that night

Why did I bother reading this thread post match?

So many offended sad posters who can't enjoy great tennis and champions because of their petty issues about fans/commentators. It amazes me that so many people on here are obsessed with what the fans and commentators say or think. Sad way to view things really.

Well done Fed.

I really wanted Stan to win, but am happy that Fed got through, would be happy if he won the title. I can overlook the commentators etc. I think it is a bit like the commentators go on and on about Hawthorn last year.

I was surprised that Fed dropped those two sets and kept thinking Stan has a chance in the fifth, but Fed stepped it up again. I don't care who wins tonight.

As for the women really don't care as I'm not a William's fan. I thought Venus's OTT celebration were disrespectful, no wonder Coco was pissed off.

Well said, IMO Most posters in here who complain about these petty things don't value the game, Or even care about the sport.

Just like hating a movie that everybody else loves, Just coz.
