Could tell from Hammer flying over to watch us in JLT1. I can read his regret.

Writing was on the wall when he spoke about how Ross Lyon does his pre-season training. Was more of a "hitler" approach. Reckon he regrets it big time and kicking himself over it now.

Hammer seemed like a real nice dude...he doesn't deserve that many years in football concentration camp.

Every chance a team is gonna win it from 7th again this year, I don't think I've seen such a stark difference between 7 teams and the rest.

If you're primed for finals and finish 5th I reckon you're laughing.

Who's your 7
Sydney, GWS, Dogs, Hawks, Crows, WCE, Geelong. If someone wins it outside of that I'll be gobsmacked.

That's my 7 too, in a different order though. I'm going against the grain and slotting the Pies into the 8.
Oh, that's not in order. In order would be:

Sydney
GWS
Dogs
Hawthorn
Geelong
West Coast
Adelaide

The you could have any of St Kilda, Dees, Pies etc in at 8. I probably think Melbourne as they have some genuine stars like Gawn and Hogan in key positions.

GF
Dogs
Giants

Prelim
Swans
Eagles

Semi
Crows
Hawks

Elimination
Cats
Pies

Just missing
Dees, Saints.

That's my guess.

Adelaide and Geelong are extremely vulnerable to injuries to key players IMO. Say Sloane or Danger get injured for a long period, they are certainties to miss the 8 IMO.

Even without injuries I'm not sure Geelong are locks. Enright and Bartel are massive big moment players that they will miss. Cats also have an ordinary coach IMO.

I only have 5 locks. Syd, GWS, Dogs, WC and Hawks. Crows and Cats likely, but not locks.

Melbourne could do some damage this year. I'd back the Pies but for Buckley. Saints could explode if Stevens and Steele can impact. Gold Coast could massively improve as well.

Just not as sure it's that cut and dried. (Except that GWS are top 4 for the next ten years - just as the AFL wanted).

Seems like Hamling struggled big time yesterday. Like a lot of people have said, he'll struggle big time in Ross's defence. He'll be left 1v1 way too often.

To be fair a lot of very good players struggle against that west coast forward line...especially marking Kennedy 1v1

Bit generous to Hawthorn having them as top 8 locks. They'll be lucky to win a contested ball count all year
Mitchell is one of the best ball hunters in the comp. I think he along with Roughead and O'Meara change them dramatically.

I don't think Hill or Lewis were that big of a loss, either. Sam Mitchell was the killer.

Hill is a loss in terms of pace. That's where they'll struggle. O'Meara will almost certainly have lost some.

I never thought Hill was that good. For me Smith is the one who always drived their run.

Going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Clarko will have something sorted out being the little genius that he is.
