Shit just saw on the news that today is the one year anniversary of Prince's death. Where did that year go???

I didn't write it at the time, but in 1991 I visited my mates US girlfriend in Minneapolis. I was travelling throughout USA and Canada, and ducked down to Barbados for the 4th test against the Windies. When I was at the test, my mate finished his uni course and returned to Oz to set up his house so his girlfriend could immigrate to Oz when she finished her uni course a couple of months later. She introduced me to all my mate's Uni mates from his course and a few of her friend's and about 10 of us spent a night at Prince's Glam Slam night club in downtown Minneapolis.

I had heard about the club and she used her connections to get us in so we didn't have to line up for a couple of hours. It was an amazing place, 4 or 5 stories high and an atrium thru the middle so you could lean on the rails and look at what was happening on the different levels. It held maybe 1,000 people.

It reflected Prince's wide musical range. I remember on the bottom floor there was a rock band with a drummer who had huge arms and was always pounding the skins whenever I looked at them. On another floor there was a jazz band playing quirky jazz stuff. On another floor in a corner of a small bar there was a male and female acoustic guitar performers and we watched them for a 90 minute set. On another floor in another bar there was a techno band with 2 or 3 key boards and a couple of syn drum kits. And somewhere there was a pop band. There might have been a couple of other performers we saw during the night. I reckon we spent 7 or 8 hours there. left around 4am. I wasn't in a great place at the time and the night was a wonderful evening that took my mind off my troubles and cemented a life long friendship with Jo who a couple of years later became my mates wife. Now I haven't visited many night clubs the last decade but I have never seen anything like it in terms of size, variety of music, so many alternatives to watch during the night, variety of fashion by attendees and just so much fun in one night.

Still such sad loss and its a shame to see that the family are fighting over his estate and the shit fight might go for years. The news story said the judge hearing the competing claims has banned any unreleased music being released for commercial sale.

Almost got through Sandy Wexler, Adam Sandler's latest Netflix movie on the third go. Maybe fourth time lucky tomorrow night. Only 46min to go...

Enough of the boobs and beavers on Viceland, it's over to West Ham v Toffees on Ch 30 :thumbsu:
First time I have watched a game from the reconfigured Olympic Stadium. There is an athletics track under those seats close to the pitch on all 4 sides, but i don't think they are retractable seats, just temporary scaffolding seats as the athletics World Championships are on in August. Looked up this video a couple of hours ago.

I'm glad Spurs didn't end up there - looks shithouse!

Hey you muso's what is a good cheap record player for someone starting out with vinyl?

I like vintage stuff. Most Japanese made stuff from the 70s is excellent quality and will match up well with an amp of the same era. If you're going to buy new then you'll have to spend more. Have a look on gumtree.

Yeah, Mitsubishi turntables are generally pretty good.

I thought maybe you were taking the piss but it appears that they did indeed make quality turntables...

Chrysler Valiants became Mitsubishi Magnas; Kreisler radiograms became Mitsubishi stereo systems ;)

They certainly do. I've got a Mitsubishi DP-EC1 belt drive turn table and it's very good.
