Petrie himself knows he is a bit player this year. He's coming back from a fair layoff too so he would more than understand not coming straight in.

In the meantime Frase got his chance last week and he couldn't have done much more than he did. Unless it's NN/Slyce coming back in you have to reward that form and give him a few weeks.

*Quietly waiting for the board to turn its back on McInnes after one or two quiet games*
That's a fair chance to happen but I'd still give him a run anyway. Our ruck stocks are pretty low atm so it's the best chance we'll ever have to see if he's capable or not.

Sure, a 34 year old has massive upside.

Drew's a ripper of a bloke, but McInnes has far more upside then someone recruited purely as a stopgap.
Who is talking upside?

It's an even year and we're a chance to steal a flag. Come September I know who the MC will be selecting first.

Fair enough, Petrie has a tonne of finals experience and could be valuable.

All depends on form really, just have to wait and see.

Has he fulfilled his potential yet?

So you think we'll likely play Lycett and Vardy together once Lycett is fit?
I think this is the likely outcome.

Would there be room for Petrie as a stay at home forward, combining with JJK &JD?

How about Petrie has way more experience in Melbourne. That's a fair reason.
Nelson in for Butler
Petrie in for McInnes
Cripps in for Redden or Hill (Melbourne form)

Not sure lycett works playing predominantly forward

When he gets back (and finds fitness), reckon he needs to be 1st ruck and either McInnes or Petrie forward. What happens next year with NN will be interesting. Not sure a NN Lycett combo works

Our back has improved out of sight by sending a faster more mobile defender back. Like it did when sheppard was forced into a third tall role a couple of years ago

Mobility and pressure in our forward line is crucial, vardy even mentionedit the other day. Can't afford to have weak links

The whole selecting Petrie after missing 7 games is a bit of a slap in the face to McInnes.

I was perusing the stats today and I noticed that Petrie hasn't had more than 15 hit outs (the number McInnes had on the weekend), since North's last game of the 2008 season. So we're now into our 9th year where Petrie hasn't produced a ruck game like Fraser's against the Bulldogs, but he's named in the team right after a 7 week injury?

Either McInnes or Vardy are under a cloud or this stinks.
