I actually rate what Buckley has done, and is doing.
After making his initial decision to move on a variety of players, for a multitude of reasons, he has stuck to his guns. If the board hold their nerve I wouldn't be surprised if it pays dividends for Collingwood within the next 2-3 years.

If the Pies make the 8 (or even run it close, with a good percentage and competitive results), provided his heart is still in it as well, I think a two year extension to see how far he can take his group of players would be fair.

Possibly not. Maybe just aloof.
Which may actually be a less effective quality in a coach.

I think people seem to be locked into this perception that Buckley must in some way, shape or form be an unlikeable or difficult person, and I've honestly never really found that to be the case, particularly during his coaching tenure.

Still want to wait until the end of the year and I still like finals as a benchmark of sorts. But one thing has become apparent over the last 5 weeks, the team certainly plays for Buckley and are buying in. Certainly unpolished and unrefined at the moment but that comes with experience. Still lots of water to go under the bridge yet in 2017 but if the team keeps playing the way it has been lately I'm erring more on the side of giving him an extension than starting again. For what it's worth, our team yesterday featured:

Brown (1 game)
Scharenberg (7 games)
Crocker (12 games)
Phillips (17 games)
Smith (29 games)
Broomhead (30 games)
Moore (38 games)
Maynard (41 games)
De Goey (42 games)
Langdon (47 games)
Aish (51 games)

That's half a team with 51 games or less experience, most of who have earnt a call-up (although injuries have given some guys games). I'd argue six best 22 players were out injured yesterday (not an excuse for the loss given the state of the game in the second quarter) but certainly a consideration. Melbourne had 9 plus their own significant injury issues also. I'd argue Wells (249 games) in for Brown; Varcoe (182 games) in for Phillips; Goldsack (152 games) in for Scharenberg; Reid (128 games) in for Langdon; Elliott (80 games) in for Crocker and Sinclair (63 games, perennially injured) in for Smith if we had a full list to choose from for a grand final tomorrow. A fair chunk of experience to come back into the team.

A lot of words and numbers there but at this stage Buckley looks to have a young team and mid-table quality list playing like you'd expect. The first few years of Buckley's reign are over and have been covered to no-end in here. All about looking forward and at this stage in comfortable we're trending up rather than down but still work to be done (particularly off-season) to get the team to premiership standard.

You do realize we had about the same amount of players with little experience. In saying that it's ridiculous to use the game as evidence of anything another goal to you guys and Goodwins under pressure and buckleys a hero

Yes I do realize that, that was included in the post (the Melbourne had 9 plus significant injuries part). Maybe my general read of the situation's wrong but some seem to be under the illusion that due to the recruitment of Wells, Mayne and Dunn that Collingwood's rolling out a "Dad's Army" of sorts every week. Simply pointing out that the side is probably more inexperienced than some might realise.

My bad must have skimmed over it, yeah nah both Melbourne and Collingwood are very inexperienced especially in the key posts. Its both our midfields that are keeping us around the 8. If the Pies had Elliot and another experienced key forward next to Moore they would have won another game or 2 and be in the 8

Pretty much taken the Pies backwards since he took over.

No finals again this year, which is likely, surely means both go seperate ways.

Buckley likely to earn very good money in media anyway, should be easy to walk away after no success whatsoever.

Is it? They'll be at most one game out of the 8 at the end of this weekend, with 10 games still to go. As much in the hunt as the 8 others teams currently sitting on 5 or 6 wins, and have been as consistently competitive as any side in the league.

You won't play finals in my opinion. Especially with Elliot out.

Pretty ordinary side however you want to spin it, so many poor players in your team.

As a North supporter (even though in transition) I'd be very confident in beating you.

Clutch game coming up against the Power - who will be playing for league-wide recognition and a top four chance. We absolutely have to win that one.

It's such a shame the quality of BF is so poor because of clowns like you.

We're all so much better off if you educated yourself prior to posting on topics you clearly have no insight about.

Clowns!....lol.

Thought that was your coach?

What has Buckley achieved during his coaching career?

Look at history. Teams not in the 8 after round 12 I'm sure are 95%+ not to make the 8

Say he's sacked, then what's the expectation? Instant finals? Another reset?

Sack him in October, exhaustive selection process, rehire him in November, fresh start with Bucks as the new coach, pressure's off for 2 more years, continue with the plan...:D

Well it couldn't get much worse?

Bottom out with a new coach is better than staying with Bucks.

Been a complete failure.
I disagree. It hasn't been a success so far, and he ballsed up the old group, but I think he's moulded a decent new squad and he stands to get as much out of them as anyone else is likely to. I think they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they sack him now - basically appeasing the angry members and taking the heat off Eddie.

Matt Cowgill from ESPN gives the pies around a 20% chance to make the eight. Given the injury to Elliot, and the fact Collingwood would need to go 6-4 to even get to 11-11, which will take some doing, I think it's fairly unlikely. You're one win behind 10th and have played one more game than most of the teams between 4-10th. Port is IMO the season's last hurrah, if the pies lose to Port they'll be 5-8 and, for most, no chance.

What also would worry Collingwood fans is that, besides beating Geelong, they really haven't put together many great performances for the season that would suggest they will make it. You've beaten Hawthorn in a fairly uneven performance, Brisbane at home, Sydney when they were struggling and Fremantle who is one of the luckiest 6-6 sides in history.

So...
Are our results because Buckley is a bad coach?
Or is it because the players are poor?

Coz if its that the players are that poor, and we have consistently been just outside the 8 for the last 3 seasons, well then he can't be that bad a coach, can he? I mean, 12th is the lowest we've finished, and we've very rarely had the type of losses that a team like Hawthorn have shown are very easy to come across when you drop your standards.
We have been consistently average, no more, no less. Don't try to make out like Bucks is shithouse - because he is not. He has been an average coach over this time. And don't go back to referring to the 2010 team, because that is not the team he has anymore - and despite that group having a fair amount of young talent, a bunch of the important players were old and coming up to retirement, and the others never became leaders that you would want your older guys to be.

A top 4 finish and prelim final with one of the worst injury lists of recent times?

How many top 4 finishes has Brad Scott achieved with 2 extra years?

Your coach's career has been stacked with repeated successes and he certainly isn't leading his team into a down spiral, below poor clubs like Collingwood, is he?

When did i ever quote Scott? (achieved more than Buckley in any case)

North downward spiral? Lol.

Buckley is a very lucky coach to still be in charge. I'd say he's gone end of year.

Hard to disagree with this analysis but still think the team's better than most 5-7 teams you'll see. GWS and Melbourne losses obviously could have gone either way. Kicked ourselves out of it more than anything against the Dogs, hard a lead we couldn't properly capitalize on against Richmond. Most teams could play this game but taking all these games individually we really aren't that far off being a 6-6 or 7-5 team at this stage.

Lots of 50/50 games for Collingwood in the back-end of the year. Individually I don't see a game we can't win (maybe Port at AO) but whether we can be consistent enough to go 7 from 10. Think we need to get to 8-8 to be a reasonable chance. Games coming up against Port (MCG), Hawthorn (MCG), Essendon (MCG) and GC (MO). Certainly not impossible to win 3 of those but certainly far from a lock.

See? Look at your response.

Also, what has Brad Scott achieved in his career? What has Adam Simpson achieved in his career? What has Leon Cameron achieved in his career? What has Ken Hinkley achieved in his career? What has Damien Hardwick achieved in his career? What has Ross Lyon achieved in his career?

That's an interesting stat. Where did you find it? Got a link?
What this 'stat' says is that only once every two years does a team outside the 8 after round 12 force it's way into the final 8 by the end of the year.

Made up codswallop.
