The Sydney and Geelong umpiring was an absolute farce which imo no doubt contributed to our defeats, but no issues with the other games we lost

Sydney I don't think umpiring was a factor we played badly but the Geelong game yes umpiring definitely a factor.

The worst calls for Sydney against us was in the first 3 quarters when we actually were in the game. We gave up in the last quarter though, but the umpiring in the first 3 quarters was horrendously home crowd.

Can recall a stack of shit calls in the first 3 quarters against Bont, Jong, Caleb, Wood and Roughy that Sydney massively benefitted from and I saw it coming from the opening bounce where Kennedy should've been done for HTB but got some shit weak free instead (dunno what for).

All them shit HTBs on Bont and Jong copped around wing/half back where they had no prior and arms both pinged, ump calls HTB and not a ball up....just ball it up FFS, if you have no prior and no reasonable way of disposing the ball, what the **** can you do????

Several times in the first half Sydney had too high calls go their way (Zak Jones ducking into one in the 2nd) yet in a similar scenario/worse we'd be pinged holding the ball (Caleb).

3rd quarter IIRC Woody gets tunneled going for a grab, no free, then done for HTB straight afterwards and another late in the third Roughy had it in the back pocket, clear in the back that gets paid 95/100, not paid, ball falls to a Sydney player, crumb and goal.

I'm a grassroots umpire and never before have I been so disgusted with the way certain rules were being interpreted as that night.

Norf's (and Barrett's) reaction to the umpiring and Saturday night show all you need to know about them, and why they should be despised and held in contempt.

I absolutely and utterly loathe Norf and their supporters for years and the past couple of days have just shown why.

Always the victim, always complaining, it's always someone else's fault.

Barrett's a Norfie.

Lol Barrett.

The Barret story is nothing but his own sooky agenda.
He is piecing together 2 minor comments from months ago with something from Brad (always the umpires fault) Scott and presenting it as a league wide concern. When pressed on who has complained he squirms and dodges. Anyone involved in football knows that clubs don't spend there time worrying about unfair umpires - that is what fans and the media do.
If you went back 12 months you could probably find 3 individual umpiring comments on most teams and concoct the same crap.
The fact that others in the media are paying this nonsense any attention is another blight on the industry.

JEALOUSY exists in all walks of life. That’s a fact.

Although the world of professional sport can sometimes seem like it’s a place far removed from reality, envy is well and truly alive in the AFL. And if you’re the defending premiers, everyone’s going to have more reason to want to cut you down.

Western Bulldogs are in the firing line right now because several footy teams believe umpires are cosying up to them on game day. It’s been reported there’s a belief in the league the Dogs receive preferential treatment from the whistleblowers, and you can see their point when you look at the numbers.

En route to winning last year’s grand final the Bulldogs were awarded on average 20.4 free kicks per game, the second-highest average in the competition. They gave away an average of 16.1 free kicks per game in the same year, the lowest in the competition.

It’s been a similar story across the opening 14 rounds in 2017. The umpires are giving coach Luke Beveridge’s men an average of 20.2 free kicks a game, the second-highest in the league, and penalising them 16.5 times a match. That’s the second-lowest in the AFL.

In 2016 the Dogs’ free kick difference was +99. At this stage in the current season, it’s +47.

Channel Nine journalist Damian Barrett reported on Footy Classified on Monday Sydney, Hawthorn and North Melbourne were some of the clubs who’ve approached the AFL to query the treatment afforded to the Bulldogs. The Swans raised the matter after losing the 2016 decider.

“There’s other clubs that are asking the AFL why the Bulldogs are being umpired this way and why is almost every other club being umpired differently,” Barrett said.

When told of this, Bulldogs captain Bob Murphy made a wisecrack about those teams being “snitches”.

“They are the snitches are they? I can’t believe that!” Murphy joked on SEN Breakfast. “Where does it say that it (the free kick count) has to be seven-all?”

Murphy defended his side’s favourable free kick count, saying discipline is something it’s worked particularly hard on since Beveridge took charge in 2014.

“When Luke started at the Bulldogs he talked about those things,” Murphy said. “If you get in front, if you’re disciplined, you don’t give away free kicks because free kicks kill you, they really do — especially in the middle of the ground when all the momentum is going one way and the players are caught offside.

“It’s not something we train or talk about daily, but it’s part of the team discipline.”

Following the Bulldogs’ dramatic one-point win over North Melbourne on the weekend, the Kangaroos were fuming after some controversial decisions went against them. The free kick count favoured the Bulldogs 15-2 in the second quarter. It was 16-4 at half-time and 26-13 for the game.

Mason Wood was pinged for a shepherd when Ben Brown marked and goaled, robbing the Roos of six points, and when an umpire called play-on against Shaun Higgins for taking too long to have his set shot, he didn’t hear it and was tackled by Jake Stringer.

Coach Brad Scott chose his words carefully when asked about the umpiring but spoke of the Kangaroos’ frustrations.

“We can’t talk about it — you can talk about it and I can just sit here and say I can’t talk about it,” Scott said. “I’m not telling you that you’re not frustrated at certain times — obviously everyone associated with North Melbourne were frustrated at certain times in the first half in particular.

“But what are you going to do about it?

“The AFL will look at it and tell them they got it all right and we move on ... that’s a joke.”

Melbourne legend Garry Lyon said he found allegations of bias towards the Bulldogs “staggering” and Essendon star Brendon Goddard said it was a big jump to accuse umpires of favouring one team over all others.

“You can’t say umpires are out there making a conscious decision to favour the Bulldogs,” he said on Footy Classified. “That’s a pretty big statement.”

How the **** has the blatant free kick against Mason Wood become the headline? If you're going to use one incident as your example at least pick one of the 50/50 calls, not a case where a bloke takes the run from a defender in the air with no care for the ball.

In the words of Brendan Goddard, it's "laughable". What a joke the competition is becoming, stooping to the childish lows of your common fan and journo. How is this even a thing? North lose by 1 point due to correctly called fee kicks. So what? The umpires are supposed to let them do whatever the hell they want? It's out of control this rubbish

I'm starting to get angry that no one in authority is coming out to defend us.

There has never, never, NEVER, been any in-depth analysis of ANY of our games to support these ridiculous assertions. Isolated incidents, even obviously correct ones, are trotted out as if they are gospel evidence that we are favoured. They are becoming accepted truths among the derp derp jealous oppo fans, and their CLUBS now. The sooky lala coaches should be ashamed of themselves, but I guess they hope to get some sort of advantage for their sooky lala teams.

If they want to get the same advantage how about improving your players discipline, yes looking at you Norf and Hawthorn, two clubs high on the list for MRP sightings.

These claims are actually serious enough to bring the game into disrepute if coming from clubs. It's questioning the integrity of the game and the officiating umpires. So these clubs either need to provide proof or risk being heavily sanctioned.

Or, apart from a couple of frustrated coaches with Adelaide last year and Sydney after the grand final, the so-called conspiracy from other clubs isn't actually true, and it's just Barrett making shit up because he hates Beveridge and the Dogs after we refused to scoop him on the Tom Boyd trade and the Talia information, plus the run-in at the Brownlow with Bevo.

I'm sorry but what your saying is completely and absolutely bullshit. It's most nonsense anyone has said ever.

Bevo wasn't able to attend the gathering because it clashed with his weekly meeting with the AFL Umpires Association.

And whilst the sycophants all lobbed up with a bottle of wine for Gil, our bloke had $$$ stashed into his brown paper bag for the umps.

Every supporter group has sooks that blame umpires. We are no better or worse than any other.

I got no problem with supporters whinging. That's part of our role description - personally I have the occasional tirade during the game but always reflect during replays and admit it wasn't as bad as I thought in the passion of the moment later on ( although I still struggle with 09 Prelim[emoji35][emoji12])

But clubs OFFICIALLY putting in complaints about a trend over an extended period when they should be more professional and clinically objective after review? That's pathetic.

Agreed.
But it's Barretts word, so I don't particularly believe it.

If that's true, the AFL and umpiring dept need to be transparent in addressing "concerns", otherwise they will fester on and contaminate the season even further. And I don't mean by saying, 'ok Bulldogs, no frees for you for the next couple of weeks'.

But would clubs really be so unprofessional, or is the media just having one of their merry beat ups?
