He said it after our match against Geelong in the press conference. Said we like to "throw it around" and "throw it out the back"....I don't for one second believe it was unintentional
And said something similar on 360 during the finals. Loved it when Whateley or Robbo asked him what made Bevo such an exceptional coach. You could see Scott was seething :D.

Yeah the Higgins one is really pissing me off. Like they blatantly ignore the fact Roughy should have got a free for below the knees(Shit rule also) but complain that Higgins was hard done by (He had 38 seconds. 8 seconds more than allowed) but yet we should have continued on to allow him to have his shot.

So if he scores then are we not screwed by the umps for allowing extra time to have a shot?

Hello all.

Not really media (more the ramblings of a masochist) but I thought I might leave my latest piece here seeing as it sort of concerns our two clubs.

I write a North Melbourne blog - O'Shanassy Street.

It's very, very slanted to a shinboner demographic, but I figure there's bound to be a few people here who, like me, will happily ingest anything remotely to do with their club, especially after a win.

All in good fun. Mods feel free to delete or move as required.

Way way way TLIDR

Myopic ramblings of a wannabe writer

Let's be honest
The umpiring in the first half was poor and all the 50/50 decisions went our way
But if we are going to be honest
The umpiring in the first half the previous week against Melbourne was worse. Favoring Melbourne. Allowing Melbourne to chop arms tunnel with impunity. Ball up s for them v holding the ball for us. It descended into farce. The players were so frustrated the the second quarter against Melbourne ended in rolling melee s.

Melbourne beat us comfortably and so the game umpiring got little attention. But the first half was pure farce.

I'm not sure what anyone can do about it. There needs to be a simplification of rules and minimize rules requiring the judging of intent.
The prior opportunity, did they try to dispose of it sufficiently whilst being gang tackled. Everywhere there are interpretations without clarity.
This is annoying for everyone.

But then even the way we count free kicks is flawed. Advantage calls should not be counted as frees - it makes no sense. The free was not given it's an advantage.

Mate, with your permission I'll use that as a tag line from now on in. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Yeah, it's never going to be much more than a safe space for North fans I'm afraid.

All the best [emoji1303]

Playing Waite high up on the wing was a great move, he dominated that space .

The umpiring complaining among coaches was always going to get worse in the game - it happens in every professional sport, complaining about calls that should have gone your way but silent on the ones that did. It can be a way of deflecting attention away from your own team's performance.

Interestingly, if you watch a lot of US sports they don't often complain about the number of penalties/fouls - although it does happen - more the ones that came at critical times or looked plainly wrong. Same in soccer, where it's generally around penalties/red cards/offside decisions that affect goals rather than how many fouls each team committed.

It's weird that the metric here seems to be - not just among fans, but presumably clubs and coaches now given the chatter - the actual free kick count, rather than a few contentious ones that "didn't go our way". It's just bonkers to assess umpiring based on numbers of free kicks, unbelievably simplistic in a complicated game.

Couldn't agree more. It's bizarre. Even more so because out on the fulls make part of free kick counts (they really need to seperate that). So north could have kicked it in the full 5 more times than us yet people look at the count and think umpires cheated. It's just idiotic.

There were two other contact below the knees incidents that I can recall, Honeychurch on Mullett was correctly paid. Mason Wood sliding into Cordy's legs resulting in him having to limp from the ground, wasn't paid.

So, we were on the wrong side of each of those decisions.

Also a lot of bleating about us throwing, rugby passes, etc. As far as I can remember there were about 3 frees for throws, two against Cunnington and one on Daw. Dogs are just very good exponents of the lightening quick handball, that's why a lot of clubs have tried to copy us.

He really was very good. And those loooong strides running from well inside the centre square into the 50 arc were pretty helpful too (even if Ricciuto can't count :D).

ha all good mate. At first I thought man this is going to go down like a tonne of bricks on this board. But it's written with good humour and a healthy dose of self-depreciation so I am cool with it :thumbsu:

That was fun. Enjoyed the Hutchy drive by.

Isn't Purple a Norf fan? Of course he was gonna get shitty when his team lost by a point to an underperforming reigning premier. He put his Norf cap on instead and said what most fans were thinking, rather than questioning why that was the case which is what an actual Journalist would do.

Surprised Sam Edmund's piece got through the editor's hands and to print as well. That was one of the most biased match reports I think i've ever read.

Newspapers can't afford editors any more.

They already do actually. Out on the full does not contribute to the free kick count.

eg check the Grand Final stats from last year, Jake Stringer kicked I think 2 or 3 out on the full and doesn't have a free against to his name, and they aren't included in the full tally either.

Not that it makes the petulant whinging any more valid.

Instead they let their Australopithicine journalists who haven't evolved in 2 million years run wild and make up stories that are barely comprehensible by modern humans.

All for the sake of a few dollars.

We learn so much from BF

The Bob Murphy/Luke Darcy interview on the dogs website is very good.

Who do you reckon told Robbo the unironed open neck shirt, just rolled out of bed with a smoke and bottle of beer look was good for publicity photos and TV?

You could give him a year's free access to a plastic surgeon, and personal trainer, and he would still seriously struggle not to look like a dog's ass.
