... ... and have multiple selections of what the penalty you would apply if a Yellow or Red Card or a fine was implemented into the rules to see the results ...
You would like to see that because you think it would support what I suspect you think, and that is to bring such a system in. And you know until last night I agreed with that. But the half-time discussion of Foxtel about whether it was needed in the AFL and why maybe it wasn't was surprisingly sophisticated I thought. And because of it I'm now not convinced a soccer-like red or yellow card system is the bees' knees. More on this later.

What goes on the field, stays on the field.

Old fashioned crap. You have to be a special kind of twat to punch an unprepared player in the face, knock them out, who then sits out the remainder and is denied retaliation, then approach them straight after the game to apologise.

If what happened on the field stayed on the field then ditch the tribunal and suspensions.

From a players point of view, I am also not talking about the act, but the ongoing vendetta of on field indiscretions carry on off field.
The organisation does what it must and that is understood, but players carrying on AFTER a match is silly.

when we played them they were not in the 8.
an interesting quirk in football - and I can't explain it - is that no team in the history of the game has ever won a round one game against a team that was currently sitting in the top 8 (or 6 or 5 or 4) o_O

Are talking about Bugg or Mills?

A shocker from Bugg. It's not a great deal different to the Barry Hall hit, the main difference being the size of the guy throwing the punch. Deserves at least 6.

I reckon its worse. Hall was a genuine snap. Bugg knew exactly what he was doing.

I'm speaking generally. One of the great things about footy and rugby are that blood is shed on the field, but everyone is friendly in the club afterwards.
I totally agree that actions should be punished and whether that's done by team mates during the game or the governing body after it doesn't really matter.
But at the end of the day these things happen in high intensity and high contact sports, the players should always shake hands and even apologise at the end as it is all part of it.

If the crers get the Port treatment from the umpires at the mcg today ...........

It just won't happen. Our ability to lose a free kick count to Carlton regardless of venue, logic or circumstance is unsurpassed.

Win by 90 at AO? 11-12
Lose by 2 at Etihad? 11-25
Lose by 4 at MCG? 10-24
Win by 103 at AO? 15-18
Win by 33 at Etihad? 14-20
Lose by 1 at AAMI? 13-17

And that doesn't include all the weird shit, like an umpire marking Hartlett's kick, Kade Simpson claiming a touch that strips us of F50 possession, Henderson being paid a mark on a clear half-volley, HTB on a hair-trigger for us/SANFL-interpretation for them, and my all-time favourite: undersized potato Cameron Cloke receiving a free because he tried to shoulder-to-shoulder bump one of the ruck GOATs, Brendon Lade, at a boundary throw-in and bounced off like a pinball.

"Free kick, Cameron Cloke! Push out! Nah you pushed him out Brendon!". Oh go and get f*cked. And at Football Park as well!

Expect the Crows to get a nice, smooth, "you hardly noticed them", fair go today.

A genuine snap? They both knew what they were doing. I don't know how you could say one is worse than the other. Both made the decision to throw a fist.

I think Bugg was more considered and deliberate whereas Hall had a moment where he lost control of his emotions and judgement.

The end results were just as bad as each other.

I do agree, but also, I think a fella that's just been assaulted has every right to refuse to accept an apology directly after the incident, especially when the motives behind it are dubious.

Yeah, losing control of yourself isn't an excuse.

I think whatever the tribunal give Bugg he should get an extra week tacked on for his slappable face smugness and then an extra week again for his crap team and their dodgy coach.

I'm really hating Melbourne this year and it's not just their players. How Goodwin was neck deep in the drugs saga but then goes onto being a AFL senior coach straightaway after is beyond me. He is a despicable human being.

I'm looking forward to hearing Portia explain on the podcast how Bugg was only going for a fend off.

Not saying it is. One bloke thought to whack another bloke in the face, and the other didn't think at all. To that end I reckon Bugg is of lesser character.

Of course he thought about it. Hes in control of his own limbs. He just couldn't help himself.
