No question they have a number of guns there, but they dropped a few years back and then lucked in with one of the competitions best players deciding he wanted to return home, which just so happens to be Geelong.

Lots of talk about AFL equalisation methods finally working this year with lots of teams so close on the ladder, and no dominant teams or basketcase teams in the league.
I don't think there's any basketcase teams this year and Brisbane would beat any wooden spooner from recent years gone by. However one club stands out for me as being a tier above the rest and that's Geelong.
Carlton were a superpower back in the 70s and 80s and the modern day Geelong remind me of them in many ways. Bankrolled by heaps of billionaires. Arrogance from top to bottom with famous quotes like "we never rebuild" from club heirarchy.
Carlton were known for bringing in high profile recruits back in their day by opening up the chequebook. Geelong are much the same today with chequebook recruiting of their own.
Ironic how the wheel turns over time. Geelong were once known as a harmless vanilla club who were a second team for many people. This is exactly what Carlton are in today's game.
Meanwhile Carlton were once the most hated and envied club in the game. Today the most hated and envied club would be Geelong.
Do you agree that Geelong are the modern day AFL superpower?
yes, and will get GAJ for nothing too next year. Older player pick ups have generally worked (menegola, henderson, scott selwood) and lucked out with danger being homesick as well.

Geelong chequebook? The only elite signing we have had is Dangerfield and he ain't on big money compared to what he would of got on the open market. Definitely didn't come cos of our money. We have however lost players due to money. Gary Ablett being um a pretty obvious one. Your post is a weird attempt and re-writing history.Lots of talk about AFL equalisation methods finally working this year with lots of teams so close on the ladder, and no dominant teams or basketcase teams in the league.

Gaz is 34 next year and was originally ours in the first place. We missed 7 years of his career that should of been at Geelong if it wasn't for a new franchise with money to burn and you somehow try to use that against us?yes, and will get GAJ for nothing too next year. Scott wanted to go back to Victoria. Eagles didn't match because he wanted out/Zac Smith and Scott Selwood don't fit that criteria for mine though. Both were unwanted by their old clubs and went to Geelong for opportunity.
Word is that they're getting Smith, Hopper and Impey as well.
8 debutants this year too. Ridiculous.
It's crazy how we get so much heat in the media from the likes of Eddie. Sydney and Hawthorn have also copped their fair share of heat as well. Yet nothing is ever said about Geelong.
Who the hell has Carlton as their second team?
And apart from Geelong having a lot of players nicknamed Bluey over the years, there's really nothing similar about the clubs.
Henderson has family down Geelong way. It's why he wanted to come. He ain't on anything abnormal pay wise for his talent either. Pretty much what he would be earning if he stayed at Carlton. Touhy you have an argument. But he came across as a b grader at best and earns less then 500,000 dollars a season. Hardly a star. Every club in the land has recruited a player of his talent from another club using money. Smith and hopper are just rumours and highly unlikely to happen. And smith again is due to the Geelong family connection.Henderson and Tuohy - chequebook signings. Not to mention Devon Smith and Jacob Hopper who your club are looking to poach from us. They're also looking to poach Jarman Impey from the Power.

He wanted to go back and be with his brothers and near his home town. Money was nothing to do with it.Scott wanted to go back to Victoria. Eagles didn't match because he wanted out/
Did I say I was using it against you? Effectively you got salary cap relief and can pick him up for cheap as a 34 yr old whose output will still give more bang for your buck relative to (what I am guessing) would be average player wage.Gaz is 34 next year and was originally ours in the first place. Nothing like the old Carlton. We're more like the San Antonio Spurs to be honest.
Collingwood are like the Los Angeles Lakers.

You know who has salary cap relief? Bottom of the road clubs who have no quality players. Salary cap relief is never acceptable compensation for anyone of worth let alone one of the top five players of all time. His bang for your buck will be for 1 year and that's assuming he doesn't get injured in that one year. A draft pick could potentially bring you reward for 10 plus years.Did I say I was using it against you? Oh and you got much better pick compensation compared to when we lost our generational player too, if you really want to go down that road.
Freo no WCE yes!One of them
Perth stadium will energise WA clubs like Adelaide oval has SA
Sydney due to bein AFL pets
You will get GAJ for pick 100 odd though, a bit like what we got for sam mitchell. You know who has salary cap relief? Bottom of the road clubs who have no quality players.
