The only superpower in the AFL is Collingwood in my eyes.
Geelong are like the San Antonio Spurs of the AFL. A well run club with a high win percentage who have never really been terrible per se.
That said, with all these equalisation measures the AFL has in place and what not, Geelong's luck will run out eventually and they'll have to inevitably go down the rebuild path like all AFL clubs before them.

Word is that they're getting Smith, Hopper and Impey as well.
8 debutants this year too. Ridiculous.
It's crazy how we get so much heat in the media from the likes of Eddie. Sydney and Hawthorn have also copped their fair share of heat as well. Yet nothing is ever said about Geelong.
umm..last time I checked 2E was not a chequebook deal... Blues had both of them and they let them both leave... Could have gotten more $$ elsewhere...Henderson and Tuohy - chequebook signings. Not to mention Devon Smith and Jacob Hopper who your club are looking to poach from us. They're also looking to poach Jarman Impey from the Power.
Zac Smith and Scott Selwood don't fit that criteria for mine though. Both were unwanted by their old clubs and went to Geelong for opportunity.
Good times
Don't think that they are a super power. Not successful enough. Only swans , cats or Hawks have earned the rightWest Coast is easily the AFL super power right now. Once they get the new stadium they'll be a mint with 60,000+ per home game.
How the **** do we get mentioned in a thread about superpower clubs. We're in our 6th year and removing the training wheels.Carlton have paid dearly for their paper bags full of money used to keep and recruit stars in the late 80s and during the 90s. Its very hard now to gain a hidden advantage, clubs need to sell their credentials as a destination club where getting paid a little less gives you a chance for team success.
GWS has a window where they have a super strong list but its a window which will close, the better their players become the more they will need to be paid and the easier it will be for other clubs to poach them.
Hawthorn have won 5 premierships since the AFL national competition was set up, more than any other club, to me that makes them the AFL Superpower. (if you count the VFL years they have won 12 premierships in 45 years and played in 17 grand finals ... )
Everyone laughs at Rodney surfing in a suit, but I actually think it's kind of clever. With all the equalisation measures put in place, the cats have to find a way to push their unique competitive advantage. That ad kind of lays the foundations for possible future recruits, by saying it is a professional club (the suit) yet one where you can train and live away from a metropolis (surf). That may not be for everyone, but it gives the club that point of difference that may help finding a player who is a good fit.

Not a superpower. Don't really have the fan base for that.
I think Geelong is a club that is ambitious but knows it's limitsb and doesn't try to be something it isn't. Very well run, yes it pushes is own boundaries but doesn't have delusions of grandeur.

Not sure which proposition is more wrong...Geelong were once known as a harmless vanilla club who were a second team for many people. This is exactly what Carlton are in today's game.
Today the most hated and envied club would be Geelong.
