JJ didn't get to the level he is at overnight, Williams has shown more than JJ did at the same stage imo.
I saw so little in JJ up until 2014 I would have been totally happy for him to be delisted. Williams has shown start quality right from his first game, and his upside is still massive.

If you have ever lived in Adelaide, there is nothing more exciting than getting out of the place! Honestly, how many times do you hear of someone getting home sick for Adelaide?
Bryce Gibb's wife (but not Bryce Gibbs apparently)

I'll play opposites - pre-season intra-club game 2011 I was really disappointed that our list looked so crap because a little dreadlocked rookie kept getting the ball and looked like our best midfielder, and some little West Australian rookie kid who averaged about 7 touches at u18 level racked up about 20 touches and ran through the ground like a more coordinated Harbrow.

Then again, I remember years ago everyone getting excited by Kieren McGuinness kicking 3 goals on Brain Harris during an intra-club game so who really knows how players develop. I do like Bailey Williams though

KMac kicked 3 v Essendon in his first game. Went on to be captain of Norwood's premiership team
Didn't Tutt kick 4 in his first game in Adelaide?

Interestingly enough Bevo said in his presser yesterday that he speaks to Bob and Moyd regularly about their futures at the club, no mention of Moz though. So maybe Moz does go through til next year to stagger the retirements.

I'd be for Moz going around again. Has looked ever so slightly shaky after returning, but is still uber-solid.

With a still very young backline, the old head of Morris is invaluable if we're to be running Young and Williams (and possibly even Lynch) through there.

Gives us a chance to throw Wood forward if necessary, or even allows us to send Young forward for the year to learn a thing or two, or Cordy.

That can possibly change if we get Lever though, I guess.

We need one old head to direct players and help their positioning. If we played a man on man style it would be less important but there's no way Young plays the game he does last weekend without experience around him.

Moz has had the conversation with the club. It's very possible he doesn't go around again. Whether he stays on as a player/part time coach or goes straight into coaching is being discussed I believe.

Murph and Boyd are gone. For what it's worth, Murph wanted to keep going as of about round 7-8 but I think the club's turned that idea around and he see's why. Haven't heard anything on it but I'd assume there will be a role at the club for him upon retirement.

Edit: Now that I'm thinking about it, does anyone know if Prismall is still with us? He was our player welfare manager. Could see Murphy doing that role beautifully.

Prismall definitely still with us.

Would we look at Scott Thompson from Norf?

Article on afl.com.au that he hasn't been offered a new contract, could get a few years out of him to keep some experience in the backline.

We do need somebody to practice headlocks on.

A big NO from me, thoughts Leon

Bloody hell everyone Williams extended his contract with us until 2019 two months ago. Even if Adelaide ask for him (which there's every chance they won't), he won't want to leave because he'll want to stay given the fact he was happy enough to extend his contract with us.

I feel like 90% of the posters on this board (and wider BigFooty) would be absolutely horrendous list managers because everyone wants to trade players with 2, 3, 4 years left with their contract. The worst way to destroy player morale and lead to internal chaos is to attempt to trade players a matter of months after you extend their contract - it sends mixed messages and it means players play worse because they're uncertain of their future. Geez. Actually have a look at how many years left a player in contracted for and how long ago they extended their contract before you start discussing names.

What is it with some of you guys. Wanting payback for Higgo and Hrovat ? Goldy, Daw, now Thompson mentioned on these pages. Whoa. If we want to get at Norf we need one of their stars. Oops. Ok. Now I see the problem. Sorry.
Their list is more vanilla than Peters Original.

The only way to get full trade value for a player is to not wait until they are uncontracted to trade them.

As ridiculous as it sounds because we let him walk as a free agent, but if North want to rebuild and trade out their older players, wouldn't mind trading for Shaun Higgins. He's got another year left on his contract so that's the only thing I can think of, but if North are happy to pay a small amount on his contract etc. to get some younger players in he would be one of our better outside ball users.

That kind of logic falls down when an in-contract player says "I'm happy here" and nothing gets done. Williams was happy enough to extend his contract to 2019 in May, even given he's from Adelaide, that would almost certainly mean he'd be vetoing any potential Lever trade that involves him because he wants to stay here at the Dogs.

It can fall down like it did with Hrovat apparently. Contracted, he was allegedly worth two second rd picks but he was happy at our club and refused the trade. A year later and uncontracted he was worth a pissy pick upgrade.

It's up to the club and player manager to convince contracted players that sometimes it's better to move on. Take Campbell and Roberts, both re-signed in the last year and contracted into the future, but dropped multiple times since - discussions should be occurring. Take Jong, knocks back a longer contract on good money and promptly does his knee and will be coming back from a knee in the last year of his contract next year.
