Also note, If GWS had of accepted our offer of pick 11 for Tomilson, we would not have Curnow. You'd be ok with that???:eek::eek:

Many seem to be sure on their stories, but my understanding is that your one is correct. From a quality source.

My understanding also was, that had have McKay not been in the picture, Curnow would have been taken first........so then we would have had Tomlinson and not McKay.........and if we did get Tomlinson, would have we gone for Marchbank? That I don't know.

Out of a flock of a quadrillion sheep, you sir seem to be the only black one.

SOS has been nothing hing short of amazing the last two trade periods.

Just shows you can't please everybody all of the time

So you don't mind following a flock and crying 'baa!' every now and then? Silvagni is doing a good job but to pretend he gets them all right does everyone a disservice.

Obviously not.

All I am saying is that our recruitment for years was simply abysmal .... SOS came in when our list was just diabolical. You cannot argue in 2 off season periods he has bought in a lot of talent, gotten rid of a lot of conditional footballers .... at decent prices. I mean we lost Garlett, Robinson and others for less than a price of chips, we lost our compo for Betts (over $50,000) for Thomas .... geez the list goes on.

At least when Adelaide tried to rip us a new one again SOS made them look like complete amateurs.

It's easy to be an arm chair recruiter but with 30 mins to go, Gibbs screwing things up at the beginning ..... SOS still managed to pull some bloody marvellous rabbits out of a hat.

You can whinge about the 2E trade but seriously overall it was an A grade effort. If u cannot see that then I don't know what to say.

5 rising stars .... and maybe 6 I
By the end of the year is testament to that.

Which was really the point I was making.

If we go on a SOS is the next coming - we'll he doing ourselves a grave disservice.

His work should be discussed and analysed and questioned.

Not deified.

Your confusing Drafting and Trading.

I'm not questioning our drafting through this period, I am questioning the trading.

When you cull the list by 14-15 you are going to be getting a few Sumner, Phillips, Lamb types. There's only so many draft choices you get at workable numbers that have some worth.

It's why I don't think we'll go more than 8-10 this year and would not be surprised to see Boeky and Graham still on the list next year.

Yea

h but when u take one trade in isolation without looking at the bigger picture u r doing him a grave disservice.

We lost the 2E trade, without question but it helped us win everywhere else.

Who cares if Geelong snag a flag because of it, by the time we are contending they will be rebuilding, not our direct competition.

I am looking at the whole picture.

In SOS's trading history with GWS we have taken:

Sumner,
Lamb,
Phillips
Plowman
Pickett
Marchbank
Palmer

Marchbank will be a gun, Plowman maybe serviceable, but he will struggle to get games next year as Macreadie comes on, Pickett the jury is still well and truly out.

The rest are list cloggers - I am astounded that we've given Phillips a two year deal, but it suggests we don't have any ideas about drafting or trading for any additional Ruck cover this year.

Can you explain why this may be the case.
How can we have 'no idea' about acquiring ruck cover?

Not saying you're wrong but just want to see how your ideas come about.

Hard to take you seriously when you think that Plowman "maybe serviceable"

He is a gun

Plowman and Macreadie are not like for like either.

Tomlinson was contracted... Was almost ours and then freo went all nuff nuff over mccarthy.. Also contracted.... GWS refused to let either go.

Carlton were ready to pull the trigger on an announcement for Tomlinson too. Set up their media and everything in the last 30 mins of 2015 trade week.
Tomlinson changed his twitter account to 'cfc' as well.

Plowman struggles on the bigger players and certainly struggles on the smaller players and his kicking is dodgy at best.

With Liam Jones, Weitering, Marchbank covering talls and Williamson, Byrne and Macreadie providing run out of backline, Plowman struggles to get a game.

My 2 bobs:

It is far too early to make a call on the 2E trade. Marchbank may go on to be a multiple All Australian and Pickett may become a 200 game norm smith medalist. The jury is still well and truly out. It is quite conceivable, probable arguably, that this trade may turn out in the long run to be a win for CFC. But to say that that trade was stupid would be premature and an ill-conceived statement.

Re SOS's impact/competence generally - he has generally shown himself to be very astute and hard lined. I think with SOS, and Bolton, any judgment will need to be reserved to allow the rebuild period to transpire, as their actions, and the decisions they are making, are geared toward success and results in 2019 not 2017. Thanks,

I think his kicking ranks top 5 in the comp very neat and rarely makes mistakes

Pffft what do I look like, someone who has a clue? :D

I don't bother watching potential draftees. I recognise I far too removed from the process of recruitment to have any real idea about 17 year old footballers from all over the country. I leave it to the people paid for it.
Yep, i will support whoever SOS puts in front of me.

Phillips isn't very good GWS didn't want him.

I don't think we've drafted a ruckman since Matthew Kreuzer.

Anything that I've missed?

:p

SOS wasn't dealt a great hand when he arrived from GWS but he has played that hand almost perfectly. He hasn't nailed every trade but he has done very nicely leveraging a very ordinary list into some top end talent through excellent drafting. There are a few placeholders / deadwood for want of a better term but it goes with the territory when you turn over huge numbers as we have done the last couple of years.

I miss Tuohy for his elite kicking but we're trying to build a young elite list not a mediocre older list, and sometimes you have to give away talent to achieve that.
