No. Our forward line would need something as we saw when he was out. Dan Menzel would be better than anyone else we have or could likely trade in.

have you ever watched Dan Menzel play? I mean EVER?
I don't think you have.

I think you're trying to bullshit based on his name. he provides virtually nothing of what McGovern does or what we would need.

well Cleric was adamant that he was a can't miss, top of the draft gun and wanted to bet big money on it.
but then he went quiet, and that was before DF's mediocre championships.
The guy had a knee injury through the champs which he has just had an operation on and is out for the rest of the year.
Try to keep up Sanders.

Just a thought regarding Darcy Fogarty. His form was pretty average at the championships so his prospects have dropped. Knightmare in his phantom draft had him at 11 just recently and now with season ending knee surgery maybe that gives us a chance to select him at 14-17 with our first? What do people think of him does he have the tools to go in the midfield also?
Darcy prior to his knee was a beast. He impressed big time in a number of AIS games. He is the Fyfe type. Will start as a forward flanker and then move into the midfield as he gains a tank.

Please stop with the ridiculous idea that we will get pick 5 and a second for Gov.
We wont get pick 5 alone.
We should be able to get an upgrade of our first rounder 14-18 to Freos first (around 5).
Hopefully then we can get a replacement for Gov in Houlahan with our second rounder, leaving our third maybe for Edwards.
If we lose Lever we would absolutley want two firsts, or a top 5 and a second.

Interesting comment on talking footy last night. When talking about dusty, the newsreader (not a panel member, can't remember his name) said "one club approached dusty's management with an offer in the order of 900k. His management responds 1.2-1.3 will get the job done."

Which club in melbourne would drop only 900k for dusty ? We know adelaide is one of his most "ardent suitors" according to previous afl.com.au stories.

It would be very "adelaide" to only offer 900k to dusty, right ? Now add in the re-jigged contracts for tex and Sloane, and low-balling for lever and McGovern into the mix (low balling with intent to offer more, just not overpay).

What do you get ?

It's happening.gif !!!

If we got Rockliff AND Gibbs that would be a better get than Dusty. I think that's more realistic and would cost less.

That is an entirely feasible alternative based on the evidence at hand - one via trade (hence low balling ) the other FA.

You're confident he will end up as a full time midfielder, Cleric? I'm not so sure, I see him going the way of stringer tbh

Jury out on that big time
For mine, he is worth a punt anywhere beyond top 10, because if he makes midfield fitness he will be very very good. If he doesn't, then as a medium forward he hasn't got a lot of value. Would need to spend at least 70% mid time to come into <pick 15 value imo.

I just see alot of similar traits to Fyfe. Fyfe started off as that half forward role for the first few years until he got a tank. Its the same path Wingard has taken as well.
Might be wrong, but he should be aiming for that type of role.

He is far bigger than Fyfe was when drafted and larger than Wingard as well.

My worry is that he will carry too much weight naturally to develop into a full time mid role. He just may not develop the aerobic capacity to do anything more than bursts through the middle. I will be following Petracca closely to see if he develops the full time mid tank, as they are similarly heavy set players. Although I am more confident in 'trac doing it than Fogarty.

I completely agree that he should be aiming for a midfield role though, that is where he shines.

He should be able to pinch hit between mid and half forward. He might not be able to have 70% game time as a mid, but he should be able to have some impact.

Lachie Neale and a 2nd for McGovern and a 3rd?

Would prefer to keep Gov but if he wants to leave then that looks good. If they think Gov is worth $750k then they rate him higher than Neale. Our third for their second would be a massive upgrade on that pick as well. Only issue is that Neale is contracted. Taking this into account I would say if Gov refused to re-sign then a straight swap for Neale would be fair.

Edit: Who am I kidding, I would probably take Neale over Gov if it was offered. Has dropped off, but at his best he is a beast.

Yeah, he is worth speculating on. I take on board what the guys are saying about Fogarty dropping and that those players usually follow that trajectory. However, we now know that he has been struggling through a knee injury. This probably puts a different light on that idea. Its not your usual case of a potential number 1 dropping off a cliff. Its a case of dropping off for an understandable reason. If he did fall to our pick, which could end up being in the 20s (fingers crossed) then you would have to say thank you and take him. But if my logic is sound, there is no way he falls to that pick anyway as everyone will take that into consideration and he will go much earlier.

Mentioned Rockliff and the Crows in the same sentence at the end of "On the Couch".

Any chance of some context relating to the comments?

I'm not sure it would cost a hell of a lot less, but would be more believable. Too many cashed up Victorian suites for us to entice him away.

Unfortunately I think the Collingwood game showed us that our midfield is still very shallow in A-Grade talent. One injury to Sloane or Crouch x2 and we're in strife, especially since Sloane is vulnerable to a tag. One or both of Gibbs/Rockliff would help significantly, especially given the midfields of GWS, Melbourne, Collingwood and Bulldogs.

Overall it would cost more money, but you're getting two A Grade players. At the trade table it will cost less. We should be able to afford 2 players at 800k and 700k respectively (1.5mill), rather than Dusty 1.3mill.

EDIT: Should mention, this is assuming Richmond decide to match and Brisbane don't which I think is likely.

Wasn't Gibbs going to sign a 5 year deal at $600k/year. Surely the amount wont change this year. If we can get Gibbs on $600k then he will fit nicely into our 6-10 top player bracket. We still have room for Sloane and another A-grader in that 1-2 player slot. I reckon we can afford Gibbs plus a $1m+ player. Even Kelly at around $1.4m. How we get trade bait for Gibbs and Kelly is a different story.

Maybe - I don't know the numbers, just know it'd be a more realistic and sensible option than getting Dusty.

I just think Dusty is no chance. He has been at Richmond too long. Why would he care that much about winning a flag ;) I reckon there is just a sliver of a chance of Kelly if we win the flag. I think if he decides to leave the GWS then we will still have a couple of weeks to turn his head. If he is getting an offer he is happy with to go to North and we say we will give you that to come to Adelaide, then he might just think about it. We would have to give up a lot to get Kelly - players like Gallucci, Milera, Doedee, Cameron, Atkins would all be on the table at a minimum. If we went down the Rocky path we wouldn't have to give up those players. But I would prefer Kelly still. Our two firsts plus give up one or two players is worth it for what he would bring. He would take us to the next level.

5AA going with the 'Port up to their eyeballs in Rocky' thing again. FFS, didn't they even say a couple of weeks ago that Port thought he was not that interested in them, but maybe us?

EDIT: Based on a fox footy report. If they get him and we get beans again, then we are officially useless off field
EDIT2: Good work JPetro83 tweeting the club and Roo asking what are we doing

A superstar for a bunch of at best B graders and unproven speculative talent.....ain't happening.

If 2 1sts on it's own doesn't do it steak knives on top won't help.
