If we could choose any coach who would people want ?
Personally I would go for Alan Richardson, thoughts ?
I'd like to see how Fos Williams's coaching would go in the modern era.

This seems to be the position many around here have

Only thing is Bassett has an overtly defensive game style

The Crows this year and the Bulldogs last year have shown that a really good attacking team will always beat a dour defensive one

Have a look at Carlton at what Bolton's brought to their game plan - do we really want to go down the same path ?

You know who else had a dour defensive gamestyle that many people didn't like? Paul Roos.

Personally I couldn't give a frick if nobody enjoys watching us play, as long as we are successful. And sure, the statistics suggest attacking teams are more likely than defensive teams to win the thing, but that doesn't mean a defensive team has never won it before. I don't like this thinking that says 'oh well it probably won't work so let's not even try.' It also doesn't give Bassett any credit for potentially evolving his game style.

Basically, as far as I see it, here are the facts as they stand:

-Ken Hinkley is a dud loser who will never take us anywhere.

-Clarkson is not going to uproot from Hawthorn and come to Port. Not for a million bucks. That's a pipe dream.

-There are various assistants throughout the league who could potentially succeed as coach. However, I do not have any faith in our board's ability to pick the right one.

-We have a horrible tendency of bringing back ex-players as assistants and dishing out 'jobs for the boys' despite their lack of winning credentials. This must stop.

-Nathan Bassett is a proven winner. He has shown he has what it takes to win premierships, albeit at a lower level. He got the most out of a bunch of spuds who have been hot garbage ever since. He is also the only one of our coaches to have actually shown improvement in the area of ground he's responsible for.

I would be willing to give Bassett a free run at it with a host of new assistants (get rid of Voss, Lade, Nicks and the evangelical if he's still hanging around like a bad smell) for a couple of years, and see what he's capable of.

If he doesn't cut the mustard, so what? Move him on and get someone else. What have we got to lose, really? The enviable reputation of fluctuating between thirteenth and sixth for the next decade while we give Trengove 100 games as full forward? Beating up on minnows and then getting our arses handed to us time and again when it actually counts?

We need to roll the dice.

Everyone does realise that the "more to life than football" quote was a direct reference to his best mate, Jarman's dad and Phil Walsh dying? It is a perfectly reasonable statement in the context given, and pretty poor that it is continually condemned on here.

"There's life and death," said Hinkley, "and there's real life and death. Football feels like the real life and death sometimes but it's not. In quite a short period of time we lost Phil [Walsh] and then Jarman's [Impey's] dad and then I lost my best mate in November at a time when maybe it felt like it was all caving in. That was when I realised there was more to life than football."

There's plenty of legitimate reasons with the way we're performing to question quite a few positions at the club at the moment, barring a dramatic turnaround, without the need to take a sensible quote from Hinkley which predominantly stems from his personal experiences and make some sort of ill-reasoned criticism of his commitment to the club.

Nobody is disputing that, but merely questioning if Ken has become a bit too 'more to life than footy' centric. If the balance has tipped to a level where it isn't befitting of the head coach of Port Adelaide. I remember Choco still fronting up to coach in the weeks he lost his parents.

Also

To be successful, each of us must be active, aggressive and devoted to this cause. We agree that success is well within our reach and have confidence that each member of both the team and management will suffer personal sacrifices for the common end.

Up until now I haven't joined in the 'sack Ken' and list 75 reasons why he is a poor coach, throng. But I genuinely do think it's now run it's course. I loved 2013/14 and thoroughly enjoyed football again for those couple of seasons. I loved the way we played and being continually surprised when we beat teams that we had struggled against for years. Ken was great for us at a time when we badly needed to be successful. But, even though we are in the eight and will possibly play finals, it just feels like we have plateaued and I don't feel that we can go the next step unless we have a change of coach. Given our almost non-existent injury list and having Paddy back and Dixon fit and in good form, we really should be achieving our maximum potential, and we're not.
I don't think Ken will get sacked before end of season, but it will take a hell of a lot between now and then for me to be convinced he should coach us again next season.

I too absolutely loved 13 and 14 and thank goodness I did because with our club it's a long long time between drinks. Forever grateful to Ken but this team needs a massive shakeup and that likely means a new coach. For the first time I have utterly lost faith in this group and in the coaching.

I think Bassett will make tough decisions. Not limp dick decisions we have been blessed with....its a better temp path than ken gold passes

Why didn't we ...... play at all. They had lost the game before it started.
Why ? , because to do that you need players that are at least as tough as their opponents , we aint. To do that we need players that are about the same size and skill level , we ar'nt . Who's fault is that ? , starts with KH.

Just watched Lade's press conference. Another display of loser mentality.

"We are looking for a good result....er sorry.....good showing this week against Collingwood."

"I wouldn't say this week is a must win game. There are still three matches to play.....we need one or two wins to make finals."

Is it any wonder our players don't win more than 1-2 in a row?

The language that comes from our coaches disgusts me. Apologetic losers the whole lot of them.

Because he's saying that publicly it doesn't mean he is saying the same to the players behind closed doors though. At least I hope he's not.

Say it ain't so. F$*^* Richmond have improved so much with clear air. F3&^%#

What aspects of Voss and Lade's coaching are you unhappy with? Which at-least-as-good assistants are available to replace them?

Not limp dick decisions

Hinkley addressed this directly in his press conference after yesterday's game. A healthy list is not the same as a good list - if depth is an issue (and it certainly appears to be) then dropping underperforming players for players who will also underperform or simply lack talent is an exercise in futility.

Only caught a little of Trengove on MMM but he sounded surpringly upbeat. Kind of shat me off.

The magpies are 10-5. We have had a great year with injuries.

We kick to pockets instead of players.

Our stoppages are crap.

We additionally spent so much time pressing back heavily in defence leaving large numbers of Melbourne players unchecked behind the ball which fed into a handball happy style of game which backfired all friggin day long.

Been told from a reliable source Ken's committed to gold coast senior head coach will sign a contract at the end of the year. Also Makes sense why trengrove and Pittard are yet to commit.
mmmm mmmm
IF true, which I sort of doubt, I would expect Dix to want to return there too.
