It's why I desperately want either Lynch next year or for us to draft a key forward or two this year and next year. I wonder if Dodoro realises that other than Daniher, none of the genuine key forwards we've drafted since Lucas retired in 2009 are still at the club. We're not just putting all our eggs in the Hurley and Hooker baskets and spending money for a premiership straight away, as much as everyone would love that.
We will be trading and drafting to suit Daniher for the next 12-15 years, not the next 2-3 so hooker can see a flag. He may well anyway! That's not the age bracket John was talking about though - 23 and under if you're referring to the interview he did with destoop and Scotty Lucas.

With the exceptions of Daniher and Francis, in the last 8 years or so Dodoro has had a pretty damn poor strike rate when it comes to drafting quality 18 year old talls (reserving judgement of Draper obviously because it's only his first year). Aside from those two we've only others we've really drafted are mature age guys like Hartley and Brown, and of those two I'd say Hartley is the best.

Questions are paraphrased from fan questions so wouldn't read in to them mentioning Hopper too much.

Julian de Stoop: "With Goddard and Watson nearer the end, is it priority to go and get another big bodied midfielder maybe in this off-season, you know a name like Jacob Hopper has been mentioned for example?"
John Worsfold: "I think in terms of your midfield mix yeah, you like to have some super talent constantly going through your midfield. So yes we've got a couple of midfielders that retirement is looming, so we do need to look at either another young one coming through, we've got a couple of, we've got Parish obviously coming through as a gun young mid, we've got Langford really developing well as a young big-bodied midfielder, but if we can add another A grader to come through at about the right age that we'd be looking for, you know someone that's going to be hitting their peak from this year for the next six or seven years then we'd definitely be looking at that."
If they are/would be then I expect that it would be a Chapman/Mitchell type situation where it is a pick no one would use.More than.
Do you think GC would be interested in any of our solid citizens in the reserves (Howlett/Bird)?
I meant more the guys that're at the club currently that've been drafted in the last 8 years. What about the talls that left? Seems a bit harsh.

Hearing they are pretty keen on Andrew Swallow. He'd be pretty decent for them for a year espically if Ablett leftMore than.

Knowing how notoriously stubborn the Suns are, they'll probably ask for two first rounders for Ablett lol.Hearing they are pretty keen on Andrew Swallow. He'd be pretty decent for them for a year espically if Ablett left
I don't see the point of getting in off cuts like Balic or Webb. We have enough "good young talent" in the VFL that haven't been able to break into the team and we seem to be doing a reasonable job of topping up that resource every year with late and rookie picks so why waste trade time and resources trying to sign more? Let's chase some clear best 22 players and start filling the holes.
List all the young talls drafted in the last 8 years, where they were drafted, then tell me again his strike rate has been poor. It's why I desperately want either Lynch next year or for us to draft a key forward or two this year and next year. I guess after the resounding success of picking up players who just needed more opportunity like Skipworth, Prismall, Aylett and Edwards, I can totally see why we should keep spinning the roulette wheel on players who are probably never going to make it, but we can still dream right???

Selectively leaving Stewart off your list to strengthen your argument?I guess after the resounding success of picking up players who just needed more opportunity like Skipworth, Prismall, Aylett and Edwards, I can totally see why we should keep spinning the roulette wheel on players who are probably never going to make it, but we can still dream right???
Seems a bit unfair on Gumby. Did he have a history of injuries before he was drafted? It's why I desperately want either Lynch next year or for us to draft a key forward or two this year and next year. One of the great injury tragedies of the Century I reckonSeems a bit unfair on Gumby. Did he have a history of injuries before he was drafted?
cracking talent. One of the great injury tragedies of the Century I reckon
Could have been anything. I remember when he played 17 games in a season one time and thinking we had a star on our hands.cracking talent.
Our spine today would be Hooker - Hurley - Heppell - Daniher - Gumbleton.
yep. forgotten tragedy.Could have been anything. I remember when he played 17 games in a season one time and thinking we had a star on our hands.
It's no ones fault, just a shocker of an outcome.
