Michael Barlow on AFL 360 stating that he is "extremely confident" that Lynch will be staying at the Gold Coast long term. Clearly he is always going to say that but it was an immediate unequivocal response followed by "he loves it on the Gold Coast".

As you said, what else is he going to say.
Players themselves like Goddard and Henderson said they were staying, and didn't have issues walking out the front door.

Gaff and Shuey unfortunately fall outside our target age and we'd have to trade for them this year. Maybe if Gibbs goes and we're desperate to cover the loss but I don't see it happening.

Matera if cheap seems likely, we really need as many quality forwards as possible. Still think Saad would be good for us too. Not sure what SOS has in store for us though, I get half way into doing hypothetical trades and it just falls apart. We don't have much to play with and despite the weak draft we don't want to not participate by trading away all our picks.

Get Kelly this year, try to keep Gibbs, try to nab Hopper, look for some cheap Matt Wright types. Try our best to get Lynch in 2018. If only there weren't 17 other teams scheming too.

I'm thinking along the same lines. Get Kelly with pick 1 or 2 this year, and hit the draft hard again next year with another mid and Ben Silvagni coming in.

How confident are we that we will get out man Kelly?
We really need 2 more gun midfielders. We would have won 3-4 more games this year with them.

MS3 says he's genuinely undecided but I also remember an earlier post saying it won't be North he ends up at. That would mean GWS, Saints and us. Saints have 2 first rounders this season to get it done if needed as well.

For me, we shouldn't be pinning our entire draft on him. He'd simply be a massive bonus.

Saints have stagnated, Riewoldt and Montagna retiring could actually see them stagnate further into next year. Not to mention their terrible culture.

I have a feeling that a win on Saturday night will have a bearing on Kelly's (and others') decision.

Agree with CM. I think a spirited performance on Saturday will NOT HURT AT ALL. There is a player who is ripe to tear apart a game and his name is Charlie.

Pick 1 will give us much more flexibility than picks 2 , 3 or 4 which an additional win could bring about.
A win which incidentally has zero significance for development.
Rectify the midfield this year and settle KPF next year once and for all, rich in talls and Ben Silvagni means two elite talls with special talent.
Either of the King Brothers , Lukasouis , next year's top 7 would all eligible 1pick quality in current draft.
Go Baggers

I don't think the saints are in great shape.

Their key position posts are no guarantee and they only have a couple of great midfielders.

They have a bullocking midfield with a touch of heart... Which is why they smash us up.

Kellys management will be looking for other assurances in the saints imo

Tbh, I'd be surprised if Lynch did anything more than entertain offers from rival clubs. He seems fairly "into" the club (for lack of better terminology at this time). He is fairly committed internally.

Also, as an aside, I happen to live on the same street as Tom Lynch. My mrs was very excited to share this information with me when she discovered it and has often implied she might go "visit" him at some point. :'(

My head says you are on the money, my heart says beating the Hawks and ending an unacceptable run of defeats that stretches to what, off the top of my head maybe 8 years whilst may not add to much to the tangible development of the kids (just an extra game of experience), will add to the camaraderie between the young group and as mentioned, lift a giant millstone off the club's shoulders which will galvanize everyone from the Exec to the bootstudders. These are the intangible benefits that another loss can't buy.

You tell her you'll go visit him right back! And also ask about whether he's going to be a blue bagger plz

I'm not saying it's happening or anything, but I do know for a fact that his head is definitely turning towards Victoria again. Very strong family ties.

Tom Lynch represents a good chunk of the glue holding the GCS together. GAJ maybe a great player but in terms of holding together a young group, his actions are extremely selfish and destructive towards the culture of the club. IMO GAJ owes the club big time and should be showing some maturity and loyalty. Instead he whinges on TV threatening to retire if he doesnt get to geelong. The point being that Lynch's loyalty has been even more important given GAJ's actions. Now with the sacking of Eade, this introduces another layer of uncertainty, over and above the GAJ issue.
Given the above uncertainty , it would make sense to exacerbate that uncertainty even more in the hopes that some of the younger players start entertaining offers from other clubs: Saad, Matera, Miller to name a few.
I think it is rather strange that there would be a strong credible rumour about Lynch leaving , this far out . There is nothing to be gained IMO for an offer 1 year out, UNLESS it is designed to help destabilize the playing group at GCS. All's fair in love , war and drafting!

A win will launch us into the pre-season with gusto, don't underestimate what a win Saturday night can do for our morale. Buffoons in the media already questioning our development of the year, a win certainly silences their voices

Who cares what the media say anyway? Watch how much love we will get from the media when we are on the rise. Certain players will become their favourites and claim them as their own.

Gee, a lot of pages wasted going through a rumour that makes no logical sense??

It's blatantly obvious we need mids, no way would SOS entertain $1.6 on 1 key forward, when that would easily get us 2 handy midfielders...

And give the captaincy.... please!!

The way I see the defence is now built, just needs to grow.
Our forwards are pretty good, also need to grow adding Lynch IMO makes us too top heavy especially if we play resting ruckman down there

MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS MIDFIELDERS

Oh, did I say we need midfielders??

And Kelly doesn't really care how many first rounders St.Kilda has. If he nominates us then we do the best deal possible.

Charlie Curnow already seems to have had this effect on SEN. I'm hearing a lot of positives from the media. I don't expect 100% positive - it wouldn't be genuine, there are a lot of areas for improvement that are still really obvious. I've noticed mostly positive or optimistic coverage this year.

I know it's been highlighted on this board before, but funny how 'we' (generalising) don't care what the media says, or dismiss them as know-nothings, when they are criticising us, but jump all over the praise when it comes. Not directing at anyone specifically, just observing the trend (I've been guilty of that, too, to a degree). Personally, I'm fine with the criticism if it is well-considered and shows some analysis - prefer that to the jounos who produced 'rumour-based' articles based off some random's tweet or a talk-back caller's made up bullshit.

They are sort of hard to get a read on. If they get Kelly this year then next pick up say Gaff as a FA next and use next years mid first rounder on another mid I could easily see them doing what Geelong are doing now and becoming a really strong side.
I can also see them sitting mid table for a very long time.

You make a lot of sense too Koh Phi and I agree , the special winning culture and camaraderie of lifting a yoke of a tabohoo form a club is priceless experiance for the playing group, BtW we have'nt beaten the Hawks since 2005 if I remember correctly.
So yes to win is always vert importan esoecially this one , sometimes tactics and valuations get in way.
Hope the boys play with passion and give it there all. Opposition will strong more that most believe.
