He has a valid argument.

Why should the Tigers be gifted a home ground final if they play the Cats?

The AFL need to come clean on this ... dollars and greed prevail over the integrity of the competition.
As per the rules, if you finish 1-2/5-6 you earn a home STATE final. It makes no sense to deny 65,000 people access to the game.

Why does it matter if it's at Simonds or not if we win tomorrow? Geelong fans have constantly stated they'd beat us anywhere, so why play what could be a 90,000 attendance game at the home of footy at a 33k shitheap training ground?

From the perspective of Geelong fans, they're not sure who they'd prefer out of GWS at Simonds or Richmond at the G.

A huge crowd and an easy kill will be good for us. It will be great to get the extra MCG experience.

And the majority of those 65000 will be richmond supporters so it makes total sense to lock them out. This is geelongs home final. Not richmonds.

It doesn't matter who we play. We earned the home final so we should be playing at Skilled where we have our best record and gain an extra advantage otherwise where the hell is the reward for finishing top two and why do others like GWS and Adelaide etc get to play at their home ground with much smaller capacity than the G??

Stinking AFL bias against Geelong.

Get over this anti Geelong BS
You do realise that if Essendon or one of the other Etihad tenants was hosting Richmond it would be moved to the MCG also

Bias. Spell me.

If GWS remain 3rd, you get a final in Geelong
If Richmond win, you're off to the G

If you think that's anything to do with bias and nothing to do with money, get out and get some fresh air.

I always laugh at supporters who say "Geelong already have to many home games at KP" etc, it's our home stadium in Geelong, we aren't a Melbourne club, we should be playing our home games at Simonds Stadium, it's a great venue now and holds around 34k. We have finished 2nd and deserve the right to play at home with a 'Home ground advantage' just as Adelaide will at AO, Richmond at the G, Sydney at the SCG.

Geelong playing at the MCG is not a Home ground advantage, especially if we are going to be playing Richmond first week of the finals. What other sport does this?

It's a different scenario though as geelong are not a melbourne based club.

I'm not going to get into it too much though..I understand the business of it. I'm fine with the Tigers at the G. I think we will beat them anyway

You mean like that time they scheduled a final at Kardinia Park to get Collingwood playing at the MCG?
I love that this being the actual reason for the shift to Kardinia was forgotten.

Not fairness, not because Geelong earned a home final. They wanted the more popular Pies to play a less important final at the MCG against Port.

The NRL for one

The 34k part is the issue.
If you draw a club with small Victorian based support, it will be in Geelong
If it's Richmond, it will be at the G

Same argument can be mounted for the GF. Adelaide are the minor premiers. If they make the GF, they aren't playing it at Adelaide oval.

Well those circumstances are unlikely to recur for a long time as the Pies sink further into the swamp of inconsequence.

The Cats shd play their first final at their litter box as they have earned it. The AFL should provide fair ticketing arrangements to allow 40% of ground capacity to be provided to fans of the oppo club.

AFL executives get paid bonuses tied to attendances and ratings.

If you look at all their decisions through that prism they make sense. If you don't, they don't.

Of course Geelong should get to play their home finals on their home ground. I cant believe anyone other than a biased opposition supporter or AFL executive would argue otherwise

If we play more games and finals at the MCG, and make the grand final against an interstate team, then we have the advantage.. It can work in our favour as well...

The AFL opened a can of worms when it allowed Geelong to play a home final at Kardinia Park four years ago. Since then, the issue hasn't gone away.

I'm not sure if I can remember Geelong supporters bemoaning our finals games against Collingwood and Hawthorn being played at the MCG. I would have bemoaned if I couldn't get a ticket!

I do think that if Richmond lose and we play GWS, then it should be played in Geelong. Just as GWS would play any of the Etihad tenants at Etihad stadium, if those clubs were hosting Richmond, then they too would have their game rescheduled to the MCG.
