Brett Anderson says Bonar and Murphy the two bolters. Bonar top 10, I'm assuming he's suggesting Murphy could be the same.
Bonar is a slim chance to make the top 10, while if you're talking about Tom Murphy, he's an overage player who probably won't either.

I can definitely see Bonar going top 20.

I think the key point is that if Kelly picks the saints and we help them by giving Rayner to GWS (pick 3 for 7 & 8), then we can just trade Rayner in a package deal in 3-4 years time.

My quick response is:

IF Saints 'need' pick#3 to get Kelly - THEN tough luck - why should Carlton be in the business of helping those campaigners?
IF Gibbs is going THEN there will be adequate compensation in terms of extra pick(s) to get a second first round pick in I would have thought and SOS goes to draft with #3 plus pick#18 + I would have thought AND IF as many are saying after top5 there is a drop off - THEN it gets down to recruiting calls
AND IF Gibbs decides to stay THEN pick#3 bringing in a gun mid OR Kelly OR a couple of decent GWS mids is better again.

So NO to swapping #3 for 7&8 ffrom Saints - any way I simplify the equation.
What about 3 for 7+8 and jack Lonie. I'd do that.

Hoping Sydney will monster crows midfield in prelim (very real possibility with sloane underdone and swans absolutely flying) and they fall just short, thus panicking and bowing to SOS' demands for Gibbs. 10 and 18 would be fairly adequate compensation for gibbs (although I would still prefer to keep him). Crows beat swans and go onto win flag and we get squat for Gibbs.

No way in hell we get pick 10 let alone 18 as well. We need him and I am sure he stays.

This makes absolutely 0 sense to me;
  • If we would take 7 & 8 for Pick 3, why wouldn't GWS accept 7 & 8 from Saints in order to secure Kelly?
  • If GWS have a specific player in mind which requires pick 3 (ie. Rayner), and Kelly nominates Saints so we do a deal to get 7 & 8, why would we be able to 'Trade in' Rayner in 3-4 years time? What makes you think GWS will give him up?
  • Why are you so sure Pick 3 will secure the player GWS wants - what if Rayner goes Pick 1?
Too many assumptions to predict how it will all unfold. I'm sure GWS will want the best compensation they can get for Kelly and 7 & 8 is worth more in points.

Word around the past couple days is the draft after the top 5 picks evens out a bit and then falls away pretty quickly, guess it depends on the type you want/need and when you can get them.

I would also factor in what others clubs you deal with and what they are going to get by taking your pick.

If we can turn 3 into 7 and 8, and then use those picks to get Kennedy, Smith, Coniglio/Scully then I'd say that's a win, given the barrenness of this draft. We lack depth still so quantity might be SOS' game yet.

He was with her for ten years? and they had young kids.
That level of commitment shows that he was more stable than what he is getting credit for.
As for assumptions about him having an ego, all elite sportspeople have one. It is a by-product of the self belief in the skills that have brought them success.
Move on from the pot shots and give the bloke a break.
His best footy is great to watch.

FWIW champ, I didn't mention Stringer at all or take a pot shot at him in any way, shape or form. I specifically referred to how I " define someone's character"

I doubt that Riscuitto vetoed the deal. If he had, why wouldn't we have leaked it to the media, rather than putting up with the whole 'Carlton were asking too much' hoo haa...

What Jabba73 said. Further, you don't go slamming individuals when you can easily avoid it. Regardless, even if Roo had have done that, it's one person's opinion. Everything that SOS and co have done with the matter has been directed towards the entire Adelaide Football Club. I'm grateful. Just no need to pot shot an individual. Leave it to the journos like Caro with her arrows to do that for the club. You never know when you'll need to get an individual on side to complete something down the road.

Scott Selwood said Lang had just bought a house and he had moved in.

Probably wasn't keen on moving clubs if he'd just bought a joint in Tourquay or something.

Might be different after not nailing a spot.

Personally I don't rate him

Did anyone see how many VFL at best scrubs Geelong had playing on Friday night?

Darcy Lang still couldn't get a game.

That says it all.

Gibbs is worth more to Carlton and its chances of properly developing the youth it already has than pick 17+35 - both of whom bring NOTHING to the task.
Pick 3 for 7+8 is only useful if 7+8 can be used to get decent developed mids in .

Why the rush? Why does downgrading pick 3 to picks 7 and 8 have to get us established players? One more big draft year isn't going to kill us and this is probably the year to do it. Rayner is considered the best prospect, and even he has question marks over his suitability. If 3 is only slightly better than 5, and 5-20 is even, let's grab 3 kids in that range.

Rayner vs. Higgins, Constable & Brayshaw
Gibbs vs. Kennedy & Hayes
Lang and Balic as free hits with later picks.

Doc's flagged a move to the midfield, and i reckon his output will cover the loss of Gibbs in the immediate future.

I don't think we get any more than 17 and 35 from Adelaide for Bryce. It's fair value and they're not desperate. If we can on-trade the picks for Kennedy and 24 that's a good return for Gibbs at this stage in his career, and it helps us long term. It's a price I suspect Adelaide could justify paying as well.

Go into next year with:

FB: Plowman, Jones, Marchbank
HB: Byrne, Weitering, Williamson
C: Docherty, C. Curnow, Murphy
R: Kreuzer, Cripps, Kennedy
HF: SPS, Casboult, Cuningham
FF: Silvagni, McKay, Fisher

I/C from Simpson, E. Curnow, Wright, Pickett, Boekhorst, Lamb, Balic, Lang, ASOS based on form and needs.

Develop Higgins, Constable, Brayshaw, Hayes, Polson, Macreadie, Kerr through the VFL side with leadership and support from Rowe, ASOS, Thomas, Phillips, Graham, Wright, Smedts, Palmer etc.

Genuine competition for spots and redundancy to cover future delistings.

Backline depth.
Midfield depth.
Forward depth.
Ruck depth.

Build a team that can sustain performance, not a Bulldogs flash-in-the-pan.

I'd rather use them and turn Gibbs into Kennedy plus.

Just further to this, Peter from AFL Draft Central was backing up this top 10 call for Bonar as well, so the recruiter hype/gossip train must be in full swing.

If that's the case then anothet top 10 pick would very much be worth our while.

Says a lot about the lack of talent in this draft that a kid whose coming back from injury like that can rocket into top ten calcs

I believe its Nathan Murphy that Brett is talking about.
