I'm watching the VFL. Port Melbourne currently beating a very AFL player heavy Footscray, yet no one has a sad about ruining the competition.
Tom Boyd's been having a good finals series. No where near what he's paid, but starting to show some glimpses of why he was drafted so early.

This is why I cared more about our good games in Melbourne v our bad games in Perth. It's almost like it'd make sense in a rebuild to play based on a wide ground if that's all you're playing for in the future.

I've said for a while that I believe Simpson is timing a partial rebuild for when we start at Perth Stadium and the wider ground. For whatever reason we've kept on persisting with the web in the mean time at Subi. As a result we will probably be very, very average next year and maybe the year after. And watching a win like last night is well worth a harder draw and finishing 6th imo.

Sydney have played at the MCG four times this year:

Round 6: Lost to Carlton by 6 points

Round 13: Beat Richmond by 9 points

Round 15: Beat Melbourne by 35 points

Round 19: Lost to Hawthorn by 6 points

Yeah I am happy with what I said. Richmond is not going to walk a GF just because its at the G (unless Geelong somehow fluke wins against Sydney and Adelaide).

I gotta confess I haven't seen Port play much this year(Rd 2 only) and I only saw the last quarter of last nights game but I thought Todd Marshall looked good from what little I saw. He seemed to present well and could easily of claimed two excellant grabs if he had hung on for a tiny fraction longer or if his name ended in Riewoldt.

Has anyone seen much of him this year at AFL level or the SANFL? I was wondering since I thought he might of been picked up by Freo and atleast go in the top 10 but he drifted a little to pick 16. Hes a KPF whos an excellant height (198cm) but still needs to bulk up and really should of been targetted instead of Logue IMO.

Port may of lost to the filth last night but they have a bright future if they keep drafting well when you consider they also got SPP from under our noses who surprised everyone and they picked him up with pick 18...

Hard to tell from the footage, but the first time I saw it I thought he would have gobbed on the back of Gray's melon if he hadn't moved.
He had just given away a professional free by deliberately falling into his back to prevent Port getting it out of defence.
Regardless of the propaganda it's the same as his kneeing players, he knows exactly what he's doing.Don't get to be as good a player as he has been with his physical limitations without very good space/time judgement..Toby Greene's another one,although he isn't a treacle leprechaun.Their timing is good enough to make deliberate filth look plausibly accidental/coincidental.

If the AFL are really defending that Shuey umpiring decision they've learnt nothing from all their previous lies and cover-ups,which is sadly unsurprising.

Isn't there some agreement that says one final must be played at the MCG each week of the final series? Don't think it's about crowd size.

I would have thought that seeing that the Grand Final is played at the G and Geelong is only a one hour bus or train trip away from there, that they would want to play their home finals at the G to get the practice in?

I still think there will be 80,000 in attendance for this game as it should be a cracker.

The thing about all this is it just highlights how badly we are treated. If you are Fremantle then you must go and play Geelong at Kardinia however if you are Richmond we will take the advantage away from the cats and give it to you and the game is to be played at the G.

Must be good being the Tigers knowing that a 3, 4, 6 or 7th placed finish will likely result in a reward that other teams only get for finishing higher. Nice fn leg-up for the tigers all the way to the GF, which will most likely be against an intestate team. Hell, just give it to them now.

I hate the Cats as much as the next supporter but these unfair quirks really irritate me.

They didn't defend it.

The AFL umpiring Department said, "In its review of the Shuey decision on Sunday morning, the umpiring department did not view the Eagles' midfielder to have significantly contributed to the high contact."

However the AFL rules are, "Where a tackle is reasonably applied and the ball carrier is responsible for the high contact via a shrug, drop, arm lift or duck, play on should be called."

Note there's nothing in the rules about "significantly". A proper interpretation of the rules should be that if the player causes the high contact, after a proper tackle it should be play on.

It is completely BS that the Umpiring department reviews the umpires. There is no way on god's green earth that they're going to admit a mistake was made...

Regardless of who attends and how many fans get locked out, fact is, the advantage went from the team who finished higher on the ladder to the lower placed team. No other sport in the world does this. If it happened in a US sports league there would have been rioting in the streets.

You may as well extend your argument and say that all finals involving Freo and a Vic team should be played in Melb because it will get more people to the game, regardless if Freo are the higher placed team.

If Kardinia is good enough for H&A it is good enough for Finals. We've all been brainwashed into believing that the game must be played at the larger ground for the good of the supporters when all the AFL care about is the money it rakes in.
