The way I see it, Rockliff wants to remain a Lion but is just trying to milk as much money out of us as he can. He is waiting for other clubs to throw big figures at him so there's a chance we up our initial contract offer. That's exactly what I would be doing if I was in his shoes.
Yeah personally I'm hoping it's as simple as 'you get the best offer from the market and then we'll match it' (or at least a 3 year version of it anyway )

I hope Noble realises he'll need to be more flexible than he was at the crows re: salary at times. It's one thing to let players go when you still have a core to build around, it's another to do it when you're at the bottom of the ladder with a list that seems to be stuck in a death spiral of getting younger every year.

You could equally argue the Crows have the list they have because of Noble's no-nonsense approach.

No way at all SOS and Carlton will play that game. If SOS gets the slightest wiff that Rockliff is doing this he will walk away, before Rockliff even realises its happened.

I agree, but the Crows have never been in the same position as we're in now either. I probably say this every year, but we're in a very precarious position here.
Edit: I could very well be wrong though, I was also worried losing Redden and Hanley could hurt us. On the other hand, it's not like either of those decisions have made us a better side either.

I know for a fact Rockliff thinks princess park should have been turned into a coal mine as initially promised.

Rockliff has every right to test his value as a free agent. Every free agent does it and always will do it. It's ludicrous if you think he won't be trying to get as much money as he can

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that SOS wont waste his time with Rockliff if he gets a wiff that all he is doing is trying to get more from the Lions and isn't seriously considering Carlton as a destination.

Wouldn't expect anything else. All part of the game.

I wasn't trying to say he is staying at Brisbane 100%, I was just saying I think ideally he'd like to be at Brisbane and on decent coin. Carlton may offer him a lot more than what we're willing to pay, in which case he's probably gone.

Wouldn't be surprised if we're trying to encourage Carlton to pay a little more for Rockliff to get us Band 1 and we organise some side deal, that is technically an unrelated, where we happen to pay slight overs in a swap of draft picks or something.

Something like the deal with Gold Coast a few years ago where we allowed them to sign more than one player from us initially and they gave us a nice deal soft deal for Pick 5.

Fox sports saying he is meeting Carlton brass on Tuesday. Port still keen as well. Article says Carlton don’t want to trigger band 1 so their first pick doesn’t go down a spot.

Called this a day or 2 ago. Posters and Carlton poster said that wouldn't happen. Still this is a media article so you would think you would take it with a grain of salt but it makes sense

In the article I read, the part about not wanting to pay band one so as not to drop a spot in the draft, read more like speculation rather than information from the club.

If Carlton are the only Victorian suitors and they won't be paying him enough to trigger band 1 then I can't see him leaving Brisbane.

Probably good to take everything with a grain of salt this off-season, seems like almost every player who whichever club's been into has re-signed with the exception of Lever.

Massive if true.

Mostly accurate as has been the rule for all restricted free agents. The only other point to keep in mind is that if brisbane do match the offer Rockliff does have the option not to sign the contract with Brisbane and then enters the draft.

I very much doubt that that possibility will eventuate.

wasn't commenting on it eventuating or not simply that it is one of the options. Restricted FA don't have less options then uncontracted non FA players.

For restricted free agents, has any club matched the offer made by another club and retained their RFA yet?
