Monfries, White off the books. Likely moving on Lobbe (and maybe Young) and players have fixed salaries not aligned with the salary cap increases. Apparently Port and WCE did that.

Don't need trade value for 2 free agents. Watts wouldn't demand much trade value either.
How are you moving on Lobbe?

We did that too.

Monfries and White would be on SFA compared to the 3 you are trying to bring in, but shifting Lobbe certainly helps. I reckon 2 will get here but not the 3rd. I still think, unfortunately, Watts has a role in the Lever deal.

White was bought over as a FA too, so he was on reasonable coin. Monfries unsure on this extra year.

But combined with some other likely departures I think salary won't be the issue.

Especially of Lobbe and Young are actually getting Gold Coast interest for some weird reason.

Monfries wouldn't be on much because he signed a 1 year token deal last year

Lobbe and Young are under inflated contracts that no other club would want to take on

Many other clubs have either fixed salaries (including us) or even if the salaries do go up with the increase, they are managing their cap well such that it doesn't matter.

You do have a lot of spuds coming out of contract this year and next so a good opportunity to shed that from your cap and replace with draftees on the minimum contract.

Only problem is you want these 3 big dollar recruits this year but the best draft is next year.

Don't ask me why but apparently GC enquired.

Like Trengrove I think he's a victim of circumstance. Both had career best years when Ryder wasn't there.
If you can get them to pay salary it's a win.

We don't have many out of contract this year.

But what has 2 free agents and a cheap trade got to do with next year's draft? None of those three affect drafting next season?

Port clearly didn't rate this draft, as its not as good as last year's and next year's, hence the trade of picks. But next year's is and will likely remain untouched.

Sorry I thought Young had a longer contract but he's out this year

You want to replace spuds on $200k-$300k for draftees on $100k which frees up space for Motlop, Watts, Menzel, Rockliff.

Young
Monfries
Trengove
Ah Chee
White

Should all be delisted

Next year you can get rid of
Neade
Westhoff
Impey

Let's say you save $100k per player, that's $700k extra space to upgrade 3 of those to Watts, Motlop, Rockliff

But if you want that you need good kids to draft and you have to hang on to them for 2 years.

If this year was a super draft you'd be loving it. Shed those fringe players, replace with the 3 recruits and top draftees.

Isnt the Power getting Watts, replacing a spud with another spud?

Salary will be fine for the following year.

Ah Chee wouldn't be delisted, he's either traded or in my preference re-signed and played in his best position...

I haven't heard anything to suggest we are keen on Menzel, frankly I don't know why anyone would be.

Trengrove was another on big salary too we won't be paying. He'd cover Motlops wage easily.

If rockliff goes to port where will boak play? The interchange?

Everyone is raving about how good of a pickup Rockliff is for them.

I think it's the biggest waste of money ever. They already have Wines playing as their primary inside midfielder. Then they have Boak and Ebert who do some inside work and don't have the greatest of kicks.

Just drafted SPP, Drew and Atley this year, all inside mids.

That midfield balance that we struggled with massively between 2013-2015? Yeah Port are just completely ****ing that up to bring in big name stars.

A midfielder they really don't need on massive coin, yuck.

There is alot of noise about us telling melbourne to get pick 6 off collingwood for lever.

Imagine being able to snare a flag and then get pick 6 this year along with Gibbs. :thumbsu:

I will be drunk all the way till R1 of next year. :drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk:

This is the peanut saying Sloane is going to Essendon as a FA after next year, so let's just pump the breaks

I have heard from a reliable source that Sloane may very well return to Vic in Free Agency.
Dont shoot the messenger, I will be as upset as anyone.

Motlop was at Geelong during their premiership tilt. If that's not an elite environment to bring out the best in a player, I don't know what is

Do your sums.
Geelong last won in 2011, and even then their system was being held up by some gun older players.
Motlop is 26, so he was 20 when they won that. Hardly spent a lot of years in this 'amazing system'

They didn't have the twenty percent increase built into their contracts

Rockliff is a small forward that can go into the middle. He is a very good player.

Motlop has plenty to offer.

Watts has shown he can be valuable.

Menzel in the right role can offer positives, but he is the least attractive of these four.

For the Power to add 3 of these, they will need to make some big decisions with their current list. If they do, they will be topping up? I could understand that strategy if they had say lost a prelim... But that is not where I see them at this time.

Is a lot of eggs in one basket, but they wouldn't be the first team to take this route. In not convinced that it the right move for their list, but who knows.

It will deliver a quick burst of hope to their supporters, which should not be underestimated as a need for them.
