The club saying Gibbs wanted to come home doesn't really upset me, seems to have really upset you and SoS though. Not sure how theyre flimsy scenarios.. adelaide knew he was contracted and I'm pretty sure Gibbs was aware he had signed that contract. Gibbs would also have been well aware Adelaide would be interested when he decided he finally wanted to come home, as they were to an extent, which didnt stretch to 2 1sts.

Rocky and Gibbs allow their young mids breathing space to develop. Their next tilt will include prime movers that are yet to be drafted. Both those players can then spend more time back and forward in a couple of years as their challenging midfield is taking shape. Having Rocky and Gibbs around seems like a very good way to go about improving to me.

Where I disagree is that I don't see Brisbane not matching an offer that only gets them 18.

He's been doing medicals at Carlton and Port this week and there's a suggestion that his shoulder could be a problem. If this is the case, it would explain Brisbane not matching. Or Fagan & Co could be implementing a fixed pay structure. There's a few plausible reasons for them not to match the offer.

Except they are reported to have a $650k+ deal on the table, they're not pushing him out the door. The only reason they won't match is if they think there's not a reasonable chance of getting more in a trade and if $750k is where the RFA offer lands, then his shoulder is unlikely to be holding that back. Salary cap is meaningless to them, so if they end up 'stuck' with him and he squeezes an extra $100k/year more x 3-4, it won't even rate a second thought.

I don't think it gets to an RFA offer if the club isn't prepared to trade to get him there. Still, like the Danger situation, there's going to be exceptions getting thrown up periodically when the various factors align in a particular manner.

You basically said he wasnt worth as much to you as he is to us. You chased, seduced, promised him this and that, and then didnt close the deal.

People dont generally like being led on.

That is of course all pure fantasy that you want to believe. We can't control where you set the price. How this works is that we'd tell Gibbs manager what we can offer him and what we've got to offer the Blues. Like Judd's manager said on open mike, he advised against Collingwood because he didn't think they had the currency or were prepared to get it. This doesn't get as far as it did unless Gibbs manager is comfortable with what we're offering Carlton. SOS is within his right to demand whatever he wants for whatever reasons he thinks he deserves it. And we have zero control over that and have the right to not pay those premiums. It's really no big deal.

Flimsy scenarios? Are you for real?

1. Gibbs blindsided the club on the eve of trade week wanting to return home for family reasons.
2. SOS set a price.
3. Adelaide wouldn't pay that price.
4. Gibbs remained a Blue.

There's nothing else to this but the above and your personal view on each point. There are no scenarios.

My view.
1. Late notice from Gibbs, surely he could have given SOS more time to assess his options.
2. Seller sets the price, I disagree that we should pay anything more than the value of the player, but that's irrelevant because I'm not the seller.
3. Overpaying is stupudity, happy to pay fair price plus a small premium, but no more.
4. Unequivocal result, something we all agree on.

Kidding yourself .... could explain why but it's clear most of your supporter base is dellusional when it comes to Bryce Gibbs and his value .

The ones claiming 2 x 1sts or GTFO are delusional. The rest of us asking for #10, or a 1st and a 2nd/player aren't delusional. We're well aware that we are asking for more than his normal value, but that's the point. I would put his current, uncontracted value between 14-18, but he's worth more than that to us in our current position.

I like it, a twinge of conspiracy. OTTO resigned for 1 year recently so SOS can sell the, 'prized away from' angle. But I'd take their 3rd in a heartbeat for OTTO. Can't see that being accepted or sold to the Carlton faithful.

I don't really know much about Ottens, but the fact that he's played 97 games at 28yo (29 by start of next season) and the fact that you'd jump at getting a 3rd for him, tells me about all I need to know. Plus we don't need another KPD.

I have a gut feel it will be pick 16 or 17 pending result and a resonable youngster not to be scoffed at.
It will be sad to see our champion go but he's given very good service and I think will always be a Bagger at heart like Eddy they'll be welcome back home always.

We did it with Bernie Vince and ended up with Matt Crouch so that worked out for us and and the dees.
He's been a great servant for CFC but now is a good time for both club and player to move on I reckon

I've written in here a few times now and I still firmly believe that the net result of Gibbs to Adelaide will be Kennedy and Smith (and maybe Griffen)

The number of the pick(s) is pure semantics on our end, really think that the c*ck measuring can stop now.

That's the problem 10 is too high and 17 is too low and steak knives is very unlikely to produce a good player so I think it's too big of a risk for us unless we know we can get something good from on trading

Not this year, outside the top 4 the draft is average picks won't mean much at all, pick 5-35 could net you the same player depending on who rates which players.

It will be pick X that gets us Kennedy, Smith, Saad & Co or Gibbs stays, the number won't matter because we won't be keeping it.

For the record, pick 6 and beyond being worth less does not = you get gibbs for a later draft pick you pay higher for established players with a weaker draft, I do wonder how this confuses you but I guess being in Adelaide does that to people.

This is a fairly shallow draft with the first 5-6 players being the standouts and the next 15-20 around similar levels depending on who you listen to and how they rate them but seem to be similar players mentioned.

Now Carlton cant really afford to give up pick #3 as they want to get high end young talent to continue their rebuild , If they decide not to trade Gibbs this year they run the risk of stalling their rebuild with only taking 1 quality youngster as they really dont have any other assets to trade.

Carlton would have loved for Casboult to be offered a FA deal that could have netted them an early 2nd rounder (#21) and trade Gibbs for a mid 1st if Adelaide were not as successful this year but unfortunately for Carlton Adelaide's 1st will be #16 / #17 which seems just short and Adelaide's 2nd will be 34/35

Ideally Carlton will be looking for the pick #10 via Melbourne but its looking like Adelaide will be hesitant to part with such a high pick and could be a stalemate.

The issue for Carlton will be if the Gibbs deal fails, How will they continue their rebuild with only 1 quality pick ?
How can they bring in the players they are looking at in Kennedy,Smith without giving up #3

Its looking like Carlton actually need this trade just as much if not more than Adelaide do, Specially if they win the flag

What player is going to want to go to Carlton after seeing them hold Gibbs against his will, possibly for a 2nd straight year.

Might be 50-50 at your club, but ours has a track record of picking good players.
We have no top 10 picks on our list and are in a GF, how many do you have?

Players he's grabbed have been Marchbank, Plowman and Pickett (and a bunch of spuds that we picked up to get the former players we wanted, cheap).

We're looking at Kennedy and Smith this year and they are not 'rejects' either. I'm sure GWS would love to keep both.
