Essendon seem to be able to fall on their feet every trade period. At the start it didn't look like they had a hope in hell of getting who they wanted. Now they have Devon Smith and they have pick 29 which GCS have stated they will accept for Adam Saad. They also have pick 24 and a 2018 second from GWS(may eventually be 30) which would possibly satisfy the Bulldogs for Stringer.

Kane Cornes has reported that we will get 33 for Jarman Impey. If that is right we will have 30 and 33. Melbourne may accept 30 but have said an early to mid-twenties pick is more likely to get the job done. If we could trade 30 and 33 for Gold Coast's 25 and 38 then the trade could be made for Watts and we still have a pick in the 30s. As Gold Coast picks are often academy picks then the trade, although they do lose points is not much. 30 and 33 is 1192 pts while 25 and 38 is 1221 pts.

Thought Jars was a very good young player that we were simply playing out of position.

Gave him away for a flat coke and a cold pie in the end.

Nah. Had potential but never showed any development down back or up forward. Hoyne from Champion Data was talking about Impey the other day and mentioned exactly that: no statistical improvement since day dot either back or forward.

Additionally, look at the bigger picture. It's not about pick 33 but how we use that pick with other deals to land Watts and Motlop.

As suggested, this is what transpired. Feels a bit overs to Hawthorn and no doubt feels a bit unders to you guys which is a pretty good indication that the deal is fair. Future second in a bumper draft was never going to happen. Lots of Hawks supporters are even angry about the future 4th. Big thumbs up to both clubs for being mature about it.

The points calculation worked out to pick 26 if you assume a mid table finish for the Hawks.

It's funny how many people overate Impey on Port Facebook pages.. bizzare. They were obviously only at the 3 good games he played for this club. Clueless.

It’s not the only issue the Facebook consensus is off base on.

I think Jars is best off half back but wherever he plays it's his decision making and DE that let him down you just can't trust him with ball in hand, if he becomes a serviceable player for Hawthorn good luck to him.

I think on the balance of things - looking just at players and not picks - if you lose Trengove, Impey & Ah Chee but gain Rockliff, Motlop and Watts it's a very successful trade period.
It's the sort of major re-jig you guys have pretty well pioneered. Everyone both in and out capable of playing but can benefit themselves and their new clubs by moving.

Ultimate squibb moment that proved to me (On top of him being crap all year) Impey was not good enough for Port.

About as bad as Eddys in the SANFL GF.

If the goal posts at the MCG are 100mm to the right compared to those at Port Adelaide Oval he'll win the Coleman.

wow a 2nd AND a 4th? yet somehow Arch isn't worth a 3rd lol.
The swap of picks 61 from Hawks for our 66 is hardly getting a 4th round pick for Impey.

Ok the difference of points of the Draft Value Index is 135 pts vs 80 pts ie 55 pts and that would be equal to pick 69 if you were giving up picks bidding for father son or academy players, but moving up 5 spots in the same round of picks is hardly getting an extra round pick.

It's the future 4th round pick that we get though.

I thought we also got their 2018 4th rounder?

The impster has gone and so is my (now old) favourite quip at the footy. As Jarman made one of his trademark dashes
i'd yell out "and Impey's leaving Norwood" Unfortunately his disposal too often resembled a wreak for our momentum

Ummm. I don't want to try and correct you REH but... we got a 4th rounder as well as the pick upgrade :)
