Stringer stuck there unless we want him and he wants us.

Surely the Bulldogs cave last minute tomorrow. There is no way he can be at the club next year. It has become untenable. They'll end up accepting the Dons two second round picks right before the deadline imo.

No way. I think we are in the box seat with pick 19 and a first rounder next year available

This is such a poor view.

Let's give up our 2018 R1 for Hodge as well then? Coz who cares about a lottery right? As long as we get 20 good games from an ageing superstar?

this is our strongest hand in years, it doesn't guarantee 2 gun players (with 19 + 22) but it gives us a good shot. And with our recruiters I'd say a better than good shot.

A good shot at some 15 year players is 454935 times more valuable to us than 15 - 30 games from ablett. Did you see SJ this year? he was cooked and a liability, that is what Ablett will be for us in 2019.

Cats need to walk away from this is GC want their greedy hands on our 19/22.
Hodgey is finished, Gaz is not.
I bet whoever they want with 19 we could get for 22 or 35.
Gaz is still capable of playing 10x better than SJ was in his final 2 years.

If we make it out of the trade period without losing anymore players, picking up Gaz and we still hold all our 2018 picks I'll call it a win.

Purely from the point of view of rhetoric, what does each of GC and GFC club need to be able to spin to its members (and players in the case of GFC), as a bare minimum after the deal is done? Please suggest some media release scripts. E.g.:

GC: decision "based on respect for Gary’s wish to be in Victoria".

GFC: did not "trade away our future"; (implicit somewhere: did not further insult Bartel, Kelly, Mooney, Johnson, Milburn, Chapman and possibly Ling.)

Lol your comparing Stevie J to Ablett. Stevie's knee was stuffed ages ago and he never came anywhere near matching Abletts hindered yet still very good output this season. Ablett was cruising through the latter half of the year at a club he didn't want to be at. Gary Ablett senior could have played until 37 or 38. Gary Jr is of the same mould. A good rest and solid preseason and he will be fit and firing next year. Its amazing what a postive frame of mind can do for you. He will revel being back at home playing again next year. I'll take that over a lottery draft pick that has no guarantee of being anything special.

I'd rather a chance at recruiting the next Duncan/Fyfe/SJ/Hayward (all taken around our first two picks) than a guy limping to the end of his career who has been unable to play full seasons the last few years. 100%
you don't watch much footy? Ablett limping? Wrong. Wasn't he club B&F this season despite pacing himself with 2018 in mind?

See this does my ****ing head in. All of these players were cooked (SJ aside)when we flicked them off. Ablett is far from it. It's disingenuous to keep bringing up these names.

Ablett averaged 33 touches last season and won GC B&F.

What did those players do in their final year and Geelong or years after Geelong?

You'd find like 30% of those 2 picks in the last 15 years would have good careers.

The draft is such a lottery. But you surely have to back yourself in to get a couple of good players with those picks. We aren't talking picks in the 70's. If Ablett was only 29-30 I'd have no issue with it, but 34 next year it's a different story.
